Chipko Andolan The act of hugging the trees to protect them from being felled through a non-violent movement: Chipko movement.

Sal Forest restoration in West Bengal

In 1972, the West Bengal government recognized its failure in reviving the degraded sal forest.

A.K Banerjee a forest officer along with the local villagers was involved in saving over 120 acres of badly degraded sal forest.

Bishnoi Communities in Rajasthan Bishnoi communities are the communities

for whom conservation of forest and wildlife has been a religious belief.

Amrita Devi Bishnoi Amrita Devi sacrificed her life along with

363 others for the protection of ‘khejri’ trees in Khejrali village near Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

The government of India has even instituted an ‘Amrita Devi Bishnoi National Award for Wildlife Conservation’ in the memory of Amrita Devi Bishnoi.
