As part of the Institutional Banking & Markets (IB&M) Summer Intern Program, you’ll have the exciting opportunity to work with major corporate, government clients and institutional investors. The team performs a critical role in providing products and services to stakeholders that make a significant impact on everyday life.

As a summer intern, you’ll assist teams on high profile projects where you can help to build a better Australia.

Depending on which area of the business you intern in, you could be actively involved with financial analysis, financial modelling, preparation of pitch books, undertaking research projects, dealing directly with internal and external clients, and attending client and management meetings.

You don’t have to be a finance student to fit into the IB&M team — we have a range of people in the business with engineering, law, science to arts backgrounds who are all making a significant contribution to the bank.

ABOUT IB&M

Institutional Banking and Markets (IB&M) is responsible for managing CommBank’s relationships with major corporate and government clients and institutional investors, and provides a full range of capital raising, transactional and risk management products and services. IB&M’s purpose is to combine global connectivity to build a better Australia.

IB&M also performs an important internal role for the Group by providing global markets, trade finance, corporate and institutional lending to other CommBank business units that help them capture opportunities with business and retail customers.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:

• You are an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident at the time of your application (essential);

• You are a New Zealand citizen already residing in Australia, and an Australian resident for tax purposes at the time of your application (essential);

• You are in your penultimate year (second last year) of your university degree, or if you are doing a double degree, you must be in your penultimate year of your overall studies (essential); and

• You are achieving at least a credit average across your university degree (essential).

To be eligible, you must be finishing your final semester in either middle or end of 2022 (inclusive of honours).

You can be studying a Bachelors or Masters but not a Grad Certificate or Grad Diploma.

You must be available full time from 29 November 2021 – 4 February 2022 (exclusive of Christmas break). CBA are able to provide some flexibility on hours for medical appointments, but candidates should be willing to work full time hours. The full time requirement ensures you get the full experience of the program – such as participating in a number of professional development/networking events hosted by the campus learning team, involvement in key projects to allow you to implement your skills and shine. There is also a showcase in the final week of the program where you will present on your assigned project and experience during the summer, so having you actively involved in all aspects of the program will ensure CBA are setting you up for success to be potentially considered for a graduate offer.

Sydney-based candidates only. Unfortunately the internship cannot be run remotely.

Stepping Into applicants will also need to apply to CBA's online application form at www.commbank.com.au/graduate (applications are open 5th-25th July). AND encourages candidates to apply earlier rather than later to ensure CBA have ample time to offer, prepare and implement any workplace adjustments needed for the recruitment process.

THE RECRUITMENT PROCESS

1. Online application – submit your resume, transcript and 500 word motivational response to show your interest in the program (remember to also flag you identify as having disability and one of the CBA team members will contact you to discuss the adjustments they can provide)

2. Online testing

3. Digital interview (discuss why you applied for CBA, show your understanding of the industry)

4. Virtual assessment centre – first part is a 90 minute recorded case study via HireVue. Second part is a 1 hour virtual interview with 2 assessors. from the business

ADJUSTMENT OPTIONS AVAILABLE

CBA are committed to providing support, changes or accommodations to candidates with disability at any stage of the recruitment process. In the past, they have provided adjustments such as phone screens instead of digital interviews, removal of time restrictions on online testing, large fonts, accessibility adjustments, typing responses instead of speaking.
