Step Up America
Peace Through Strength®
The Call to Good CitizenshipCalling All CitizensStep Up America: The Call to Good Citizenship is a national campaign that will educate and provide students, families and communities with the knowledge and tools they need to guard against national, homeland and cyber security threats while valuing and respecting the role our military, law enforcement and first responders play in protecting the nation.
What We Can Do to Protect Our Safety & Security
An Urgent Campaign Needed NowThreats to national and homeland security are up, yet our capacity to deal with these threats is down. With a drop in defense and public safety spending and a country that is more disconnected to the value and the role of our law enforcement and military, now more than ever we need public support. Through education, we know we can change our nation’s outlook.
We know that the public cares about the security of the nation and is looking for ways to engage. According to Pew Charitable Trust 2012, 85% of Americans agree: “The protection of the United States from both internal and external threats is a major concern to me.”
Families
Working with local law enforcement we will launch an
education campaign to help families feel more secure in
their knowledge about what they can do to be safe at home
and in their communities.
Institutions
Using local law enforcement’s existing relationships with the institutions in their communi-
ties: schools, hospitals and companies, we will endeavor to reach the greatest number of people possible with our
educational tools and outreach through fund raising for a
national campaign.
Communities
We think the public is at a tipping point — understand-ing the imperative to ensure homeland security. We will work with a broad base of
community groups to ensure that our joint toolkit is widely available and used to promote cyber awareness, public safety
and homeland security.
Law Enforcement
Through our board leadership Congressman Bill McCollum (former Attorney General of Florida and Sheriff Donald B.
Smith, Putnam County, NY) we have broad ties to Law Enforce-
ment and will work with the NY and FL Sheriff’s Associa-tions to pilot the educational
outreach and campaign.
Homeland Security
We believe Americans want to be engaged and participate in their security. A more informed
public will create a Congress that cares about national and
homeland security.
Partnership OpportunityJoin Us: The goal of The Call to Good Citizenship is to create educated citizens who will advocate for tougher policies that promote national and homeland security which will in turn drive business in the security, technol-ogy and defense sectors. We seek partnerships across each of the four pillars with those able to provide funding for a toolkit and public education campaign, promotion of the public education campaign to key stakeholders and distribution of the toolkit into local communities.

Leading the ChargeAbout ASCF and Pinnacle Five: The American Security Council Foundation is a national security non-profit organization whose strategy of Peace Through Strength® helped President Ronald Reagan win the Cold War. Pinnacle Five, who are members of our Board and Senior Advisory Board are an elite group of men who served together as the highest ranking enlisted officers advising the Joint Chiefs of Staff in each of the five branches of the military while preparing, leading, and supporting the collective U.S. forces through 9/11. Today P5 advocates about the true value of veterans among employers. Jack L. Tilley, 12th Sergeant Major of the Army • Alford L. McMichael, 14th Sergeant Major of the Marines • James L. Herdt, 9th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy • Frederick J. Finch, 13th Chief Master Ser-geant of the Air Force • Vince W. Patton III, 8th Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard
Key Issues—The Four Pillars of Good CitizenshipNational and
Homeland Security
Threats of homegrown terrorists, bombings, chemical or biological
attacks on our homeland.
Cyber Security
The impact of cyber attacks on our infrastructure (power, transportation,
aviation, telecommunications and financial industries).
American Values
The role of citizen leaders working in partnership with those on the front lines safeguarding our security while preserv-ing our patriotism and American pride.
Space-based Technology
The importance of investments in space exploration and technology for
national security and its impact on innovation and education.
