1. What is a research report and why do we write them?
A research report is a written account of information on a particular topic. We write research reports to learn how to conduct research, to learn something new, and to share what we have learned.
2. What are the seven steps in the research process?
1. Select a Topic
2. Research Topic
3. Organize Information
4. Draft
5. Revise (after teacher feedback)
6. Edit
7. Publish
3. Describe or illustrate how to narrow a general topic to a specific topic.
When selecting a topic, start with a general idea such as Earth Science. Then decide which aspect of Earth Science you want to research, such as Rocks and Minerals. After that, select the mineral you are interested in researching. The specific topic may be narrowed to diamond.

4. What is OPAC and why do we use it?
OPAC is an electronic card catalog system that is used to locate resources in the Media Center.
5. Name four different research sources, including one website that can be used for obtaining information.
1. Encyclopedia
2. Books
3. Magazines or Newspaper Articles
4. www.geology.com
6. Resources are cited by creating a ___BIBLIOGRAPHY___ page. Explain why it is necessary to name your sources.
It is important to name my sources so that I give credit to the person or persons that wrote the information that I used in my research report. Naming my sources also helps me to avoid plagiarizing someone else’s words and work.
