California Space StationStudent run mission simulations with team work and cooperative skills. The two room simulator is based on the Challenger Learning Centers funded through NASA. 35 students are divided into 2 teams in the space station and ground control. The simulator uses instant messaging, CCTV and an intercom system for communications and data sharing.

STEM Research

“Without fundamental knowledge and skills [in math and science], the majority of students scoring below this level [proficient]— particularly those below the basic level—lack the foundation for good jobs and

full participation in society”

Rising Above the Gathering Storm, National Research Council, 2007

STEM Research

1. How can K-12 schools in California respond to the challenge of maintaining the state’s status as a national and international leader in knowledge and discovery in the face of growing competition from other states and nations?

2. What policies can state and local leaders implement to support student learning, preparing them for careers in science and technology?
