A Word from your President
Hello STEM Academy Key Clubbers! Welcome to
the 2012-2013 Key Club year! A new year of opportu-
nity of changing the world! As you now know that we
are the Division 3 South Wolves now. I hope every
single one of you will take pride of being a Wolf and
become very spirited this year! I hope you guys are as
excited as I am! I am very privileged to be your Key
Club President this coming year. I hope I can work with
every single one of you. I will be providing everyone as
many volunteering opportunities as I can provide. I will
shove spirit into your hearts and bring service into your
everyday lives. I will show you my spirit and my love of
service to help encourage every one of you to become the same or even more
spirited in Key Club and more loving in serving others.
Some of my goals on this coming year of my term is recruiting more members,
maintaining the members I have recruited, encouraging members to become very,
VERY productive and participate in events, maintaining activeness amongst fellow
members, and attending as many volunteering/social events from me and my fellow
members. What I will be expecting from my members are their spirit on volunteering
and being a Key Clubber. I expect them to be attending volunteering events
because they want to be there, not because they have to. I want them to feel like
they are free to do what they want to volunteer in. I want them to have their own
passion on helping their school and community. I want them to finish this year to be
spirited in Key Club and have the passion of helping others in order to guide through
their lives.

Mini Key Club 101
Key Club International is the oldest, largest, and
most successful non-profit student-led organization
for high school students. We teach and spread our
core values through community service: caring,
character-building, inclusiveness, and leadership
which were adopted by our Key Club International
Board in 2002. Members of Key Club, a part of the
community-service based Kiwanis International
Family, develop themselves into young leaders as
they positively impact their schools and communities.

The Articles
The March of Dimes was the very first Division 3 South event! It is a partnered event
with Key Club and our division fundraised a total of $500+!
Everyone gathered by the registration booths and the executives handled the
donations. After that was finish, Key Clubbers went to go eat some donuts and socialize
for a while. Later, there was a dance routine to get people pumped up and I joined in
for the fun. I made it fun for myself. We then started to move on out to the walking route.
The sun was shining and I was excited to start some cheers but some people are not
morning people. It wasn’t as cheerful as AIDS Walk, but the fun is what your self creates in
events. Overall, it was tiring, but with the Key Club aura around, it was fun!

The DCM for April was held at Exposition Park. it was exciting because, I got to meet
new Key Club members and we also chose the new mascot for Division 3 South. In the
beginning the new divisional board
was introduced, after that we played an icebreaker. The ice breaker consisted of 2
teams, it was a relay race; the first obstacle was a potato sack race, then you had to
either pass or set the volleyball to the other obstacle and then you jump rope and
when you reach one side, then you sprint
to the other end. Team YOLO won the race, and I was part of the team; it was fun,
the hardest part for me was the potato
sack race because the sack was too small. After, the Presidents gave their report on
what they have done in the past month and what they are planning to do in the next month. We voted for the new mascot after the Presidents gave their report, the top 4 choices were
wolves, llamas, titans, and flying bison; with the majority vote, the WOLVES were born. After the DCM was over, the divisional board had free food to give us; it was pretty good; although I
forgot to eat my Oreos, but overall it was a pretty good DCM.

Officer Recognition!
For the month of April, the officer of the month
is our treasurer, Marvin Santiago. Marvin has shown
her dedication to Key Club and despite his position,
with the situation STEM Academy is in. With the
recent term just starting, not much has happened in
the club, fundraising wise. Due to our past secretary
retiring, and not running for a position this new term,
the position for secretary is nothing but an open
seat. Though Marvin talked to our president and
myself, nagging both of us if he can serve as a
temporary Secretary until the position is filled. His
perseverance in wanting to aid the club showcases
why I chose him as officer of the month. He
explained and reminded me and our President
about the club minutes and other necessary
information the club stands on, the Secretary, the
backbone for each club. When the spot is filled,
hopefully soon, Marvin states that it is important that
no information is left, un-written, and unknown.
Marvin did a great job in taking the role of Secretary
the past STEM Academy Key Club meeting.

For the month of April, the member of the
month is none other than, Kent Andrew
Lin! Only recently joining Key Club in January,
Kent, as a Senior has been one of the
most active members from STEM Academy.
Dedicated and moved from the Key Club
spirit that Key Clubbers show him. Taking his
new view and perspective in Key Club and
regrets on not joining sooner, Kent recently
managed to book a date; May 17, with the
principal of the Catholic Elementary – Jr. High
School, Immaculate Heart of Mary for STEM
Academy’s Key Club to display and show-
case the incoming 9th graders for High
School about Key Club. Exposing these
kids early on stage before High School
can have a similar effect like what happened
to him and hopefully, be proud Key Clubbers
in their future High School. !

Transition
As the new 2012 – 2013 Key Club year merely started,
Division 3 is no more. It has separated into two divisions.
Division 3 North and South. With this, we had a chance to
decide a new mascot that would represent our Division.
In our first ever Division Council Meeting, it was
decided, by the majority of votes that D3 South is the Wolf
by the attendees. It is sad to transition to a new mascot, as
the Sharkey was loved by D3. Sure, there’s a new mascot
but we cannot forget that, once you’re a D3 Sharkey,
always a D3 Sharkey.
Now get ready for this Key Club year and get your
serve on! Feel that “magical” feeling as we shape our
community and ourselves into a better future! !
