The market

The traditional role for stockholders had been one of buying in large quantities, stocking and

distributing in smaller quantities. Today, stockholders have increased their investment in equipment

for cutting, sawing, drilling, shot blasting and painting systems so as to provide “Added Value”

processing to all orders. This has now established firmly the role of the Steel Service Center, with

Voortman being at the forefront of this changing market.

The range

With an innovative, technical and extensive machinery range a stockholder can select a single

sawing machine through to combining several operations into one line controlled by one operator

including sawing, drilling, coping, blasting and painting. Now with our latest technology Voortman

can provide multiple operations in a fully automated production line.

Mainly the material flow and its machinery define the productivity of a production plant. Automated

material handling and high quality/speed production machinery from Voortman coupled with the

customers stock control software, results in an optimum production system.

Voortman delivers a total integrated solution called “Multi System Integration” (MSI). Each Voortman

machine is equipped with its own state-of-the-art VACAM Control Software. By interconnecting the

handling systems and the VACAM Software on the machines, virtually one integrated production

system is created.

In a Voortman integrated system all the product buffers and transports like roller conveyors and

cross transports are managed. As a result of this there is no need to manually transport materials

through the production line. The MSI will also make sure that all buffers are used in the most

economical way.

If there are more machines suitable for a certain operation the MSI may decide to reroute products,

this decision is based upon the actual load at the machines (load balancing algorithm).

Another important advantage is that production data only needs to be imported once. The MSI will

distribute this automatically to all the machines which are part of the MSI.

Production flow visualization

On each machine which is part of the MSI you will have an overview of the total production system.

In this overview the exact position of all material and products is displayed in real-time.

ERP/MRP integration

VACAM is an open platform. An API (Application Programming Interface) can be used to exchange

production data between VACAM and ERP/MRP packages. This enables end users to monitor their

production in an MRP environment in real-time. This information can also be used to compare

estimates made during the quote stage of a bid with real production times.

Voortman has close contacts with leading MRP software suppliers and can therefore advise, resell

and implement MRP solutions.

Voortman VACAM Control Software will reduce errors, increase productivity and saves man-hours.

Automatic material handling

Several machines can be coupled together by means of automated handling systems. After blasting

the plates will be loaded automatically onto the drilling table of the plate processing system and the

profiles onto the infeed conveyor of the selected saw.

Shot blasting, painting and sawing

This production line is provided with a mitre cutting band saw, pre-heating oven, shot blaster,

automatic painting booth and drying tunnel. The plate processing system is well suited for large

products that need the highest degree of accuracy.

painted. These machines will be loaded automatically.

Reduction of labour costs

This automated production line is completed with two mitre cutting band saws, triple axis drilling

system, shot blaster, automatic painting booth and drying tunnel. These machines are coupled with

a central roller conveyor which results in a highly flexible system.

Simple control

After importing the production files to the Voortman production system software the complete

system knows automatically what needs to be produced. From the control desk of the sawing

systems all machinery for drilling, blasting and painting can be controlled.

The two central roller conveyors ensure total flexibility for material handling and transferring, with no

delays due to material cross overs. This set-up results in the maximum up-time of all the production

machines in this beam processing system.

qualified service team at Voortman is capable of repairing all kinds of disruptions and minimizing the result

of any interruption. All of our engineers started their careers in either the workshop or in field service, so they

know the ins and outs of the Voortman machines and what happens on the fabrication level.

Over 90% of all requests are solved directly by our helpdesk. When it is not possible to help in this manner,

an engineer will arrive on site. To avoid machine disruptions and to minimize the results of any interruption
