Site Access: The site is easily accessible from Tysons Corner Center merging onto VA-267
W/Dulles Toll Rd via EXIT 45 on the left toward Reston/Herndon/Dulles Airport. Take the VA-
602/Reston Pkwy exit, EXIT 12 where you slight right Reston Pkwy/VA-602 turning right onto
Sunset Hills Rd for about 0.49 miles reaches the site on your right. There is only one wide
construction entrance where equipment and deliveries are made through unto the site where they
turn around at the open area because the storage was about 670ft from the main construction.
Demolition and Site Clearing: There was no existing building on the site which was supposed
to be demolished for the new project to take place. The was no “buried city” found when
excavation took place. Since the area was already reserved for future development.
Protection of Adjacent Property: The project is surrounded by a standard construction fence and
notification signs were put in place starting from the walk way, the entrance and the fence itself.
Security has not been a problem because the site is surrounded by commercial buildings and
other construction sites.
Utility Availability (Temporary): The project had a fuel tanks installed in place for the heavy
machines and operating equipment which this was provided by the subcontractors.
Utility Availability (Permanent): Permanent power will be provided by BKY Electric
company, INC. There is an underground transformer located on Sunset Hills Rd. Alexandria,
Virginia. The duct bank has already been installed to the street and installed on the site for the
other existing buildings but they are waiting for the work to reach some stage for Doherty
Plumbing Co, INC. to connect the permanent service. Permanent water, sewer, sanitary, and
sprinkler service will be provided by the SSWR. Since the site is too small, there is no
communication services provided because the Superintendent is able to reach the subcontractors
with ease.
Surface Topography and Drainage: A large underground storm water management system was
put in place on the site. This system was designed to capture and treat the existing site as well as
planned future development on the site. Therefore, the necessary preventive measures had been
installed and put in place.
Subsurface Conditions: When excavation began, the contractor discovered that the soil was
suitable for backfill which was recognize in accordance to the geotechnical report. The
contractor did not import any treated control fill for the project and the excavated one disposed-
off site. Base on the soil type and the topography, the contractor adopted pad foundation and
introduce damp proof course around it as well as raising a footing for the structure to rest on.
Equipment: The site utilizes standard heavy equipment for excavation and setting large
components in place. Majority of the equipment is provided by the subcontractors where the
equipment is owned by the company.
Special Equipment: There were some special equipment on the job site like cranes.
