Reading time from a clock: Minute Hand

Hour Hand Dial

Introduction:-

A clock has two hands. The short hand is the hour hand and the long hand is the

minute hand.

The hour hand takes 1 hour (60 minutes) to move from one number to the next.

The minute hand takes 5 minutes to go from one number to the next number and

one hour to go all around the clock.

1 day = 24 hours

1 hour = 60 minutes

Days, Weeks and Years

A day has two parts. Each part is of 12 hours.

First part starts at 12 ‘o’ clock midnight and ends at 12 noon. The time between

midnight and 12 noon is expressed in a.m. or anti-meridian.

When the hour hand goes around the clock twice, 24 hours or 1 day has passed.

Second part starts at 12 noon and ends at 12 ‘o’ clock midnight. The time between

12 noon and midnight is expressed in p.m. or post meridian.

Year

One year has 12 months.

Leap Year: A leap year has one day extra than a normal year. In a leap year the

month of February has 29 days. It has 366 days.
