St. Charles Council on Aging, Inc. is a non-

profit organization serving as the Area

Agency on Aging for St. Charles Parish. It is

the responsibility of this agency to

administer a comprehensive and coordinated

service system that provides the kinds and

levels of services needed by the elderly and

to seek adequate resources for those

services.

St. Charles Council on Aging, Inc. is

governed by a thirteen (13) member

volunteer Board of Directors.

A twenty-one (21) member volunteer

Advisory Council is responsible for planning

and evaluating services. A paid staff

supervises and administers the services

provided by the Council on Aging.

Agency on Aging provides services to seniors

sixty (60) and older without regard to race,

ACTIVITY CENTERS

Activity Centers serve as community focal points where meals, social, recreation, education, and health maintenance activities are provided.

CRIME PREVENTION

Includes efforts to educate seniors in ways to protect their property and persons.

CONGREGATE MEALS

A hot, nutritious meal is served Monday through Friday in a group setting at the sites listed below:

HOME DELIVERED MEALS

A hot, nutritious meal is delivered Monday through Friday to el igible homebound persons. Frozen meals for weekends are provided on a limited basis.

WELLNESS

Activities designed to provide services, which will support and/or improve older persons mental and/or physical well being. Group instructed Exercise Class:

Tuesday and Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Services Provided !

HOMEMAKER

Provides assistance with light housework to eligible homebound senior citizens

INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE

Information on available resources, depending on each individual ’s needs. Referrals are made for clients and are followed up to assure receipt of services.

LEGAL ASSISTANCE

Legal counseling and information.

MEDICAL ALERT

A personal Emergency Response System used to summon help in an emergency.

OUTREACH

Activities to identify isolated and hard to reach individuals, in order to assist them in gaining access to needed services.

PERSONAL CARE

Provides personal assistance with bathing, dressing, grooming, and oral hygiene to eligible senior citizens.

RECREATION

Citizens are provided many individual and group activities that promote special interaction and well-being. Activities include arts, crafts, hobbies, games, and physical activities.

UTILITY ASSISTANCE

Power to Care assists eligible, low-income elderly and disabled persons who are currently facing a

serious health or financial emergency in paying

electric bil ls.

THE NATIONAL FAMILY CAREGIVERS

SUPPORT PROGRAM

Services designed to give support to the

caregivers of older persons or older persons who

care for a disabled person under 60. The services

in this program include

· Information and Assistance:

Provides information about available

resources for the caregiver.

· In-Home Respite:

Provides personal care in the home in order to

give a brief period of relief or rest for the

caregiver.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is available to Activity Centers,

meal sites, banks, local medical facilities (St.

Charles Parish), Post Office, pay bills, run

errands, and shopping. Transportation is

available daily but must be requested and

scheduled in advance. Disabled clients under age

60 are provided medical transportation to

therapy and dialysis.

UTILITY ASSISTANCE

Power to Care assists el igible, low-income elderly and disabled persons who are currently

facing a serious health or financial emergency in

paying electric bills.

There are no fees for services; however,

contributions from participants are used to

increase services.
