Please have a look! “Fraud Alert” Coronavirus Related Scams Fraudsters are exploing the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus to facilitate various types of fraud and cyber- crime. Since February 2020, the Naonal Fraud Intelligence Bureau (NFIB) has idenfied 21 types of reported fraud where Coronavirus was menoned, with vicm losses totalling over £800k. This includes vicms aempng to purchase protecve face masks from fraudulent sellers. Reported numbers are expected to rise as the virus connues to spread. Fraudsters are also sending out coronavirus-themed phishing emails in an aempt to trick people into opening malicious aachments or revealing sensive personal and financial details. Some of the taccs idenfied include fraudsters purporng to be from research organisaons affiliated with the Centres for Disease Control and Prevenon (CDC) and the World Health Organisaon (WHO). The link in the email leads to a malicious website, or one is asked to make a payment by disclosing personal account details. N.B. These organisaons will never email aachments or links or ask you to donate directly to emergency response plans or funding appeals. Orston Walkers Unfortunately we have had to cancel our regular Tuesday walks for now. However, it’s good to see so many walkers taking a local walk as their daily exercise, even if we can only wave in passing. It may also be necessary to cancel our May meeng, which is the last one in our Orston Garden Club programme for this year. Orston Garden Club VE Day CANCELLED 8 th - 10 th May 2020 Unfortunately, we have had to cancel the VE Day celebraons. We will sll be building the memorial and the opening of this will be organised in due course, when condions allow. Well we weren’t expecting this last month!! Only a couple of weeks ago the community was busy, planning the VE Day weekend, the choir were praccing for forthcoming events, gardeners planng seeds for the produce show, dance class learning maypole techniques, soapbox racers busy building death traps, just to menon a few of our many village acvies. Then ” BOOM “ we are all grounded. But being grounded in Orston is not like being grounded in most places, within hours an acon plan was in place, meengs held face to face and via WhatsApp, messages, emails and many phone calls, we put a call out for volunteers to help and check up on our vulnerable and elderly residents, over 80 volunteers came forward on the first ask ! Phenomenal and we thank each and every one of you. The village has been divided into six zones, all with its own WhatsApp group and coordinator, people in each zone idenfied the vulnerable and connue to make sure they have everything they need, and are kept as safe as possible. Although we obviously can’t set a date, but when this nightmare is over Orston is going to have a party of all pares. We have all shown how much love and care is in our community so we can be certain is going to be a good one. So, let’s have a bit of fun while grounded !!! We are going to have a few lile compeons…... 1. We want you to make the best creaon you can out of used toilet roll centres, this could be anything from drawing a face on one to building a castle out of many. It’s up to you! Get creave and even get dad involved!!! These are to be placed on the table under the noce board on the Green over the 3 rd and 4 th of April. Remember to go on your own and don’t approach the table if anyone else is there. 2. A lile local quiz for you to try, answers will be posted on the village web site on the 4 th April. 1. Name all the streets in Orston. 2. What famous person had false teeth made from Orston gypsum? 3. The Smite joins which other river before it joins the Trent? 4. Who were the well-known millers based in Orston? 5. How many bells hang in the church? 6. What make of tractors are green with yellow wheels? 7. How many people live in Orston? 8. Name the last five head teachers of Orston School. 9. What year did the Orston Christmas Pageant start? 10 Name all the train staons between Grantham and Nongham. Once again, we thank you all for all your help during this difficult and frightening me but we all know there is a great community ready and willing to help you in any way. Michele held the posion for seven years, and carried out the role with disncon, handling the complexies of local government with aplomb. Both the Council and the community will miss her, and we thank her for all she has done since 2013. Pauline Ryan is taking on the role, and is working with Nick Hammond and Michele to effect a smooth transion.
