    NOV. 28, 2013 FROMAREACHARTIES AND

    NONPROFITS

    a

    a

    Dear Readers,

Sometimesits hard forthosewhoprovidehelpto thecom-munity to ask for it themselves.

That begins to explain the reason behind our Catalog ofGiving, a compendium of tangible items needed by 71 non-profit institutions in the Mid-Willamette Valley.

We asked the agencies to provide us with wish-list itemsthat could be purchased by individuals, families, neighbor-hoodassociations,work colleagues, civicclubs,faithcommu-nities and businesses.

We insisted that the items be tangible, something the do-

nor could deliver directly to the nonprofit. Donations bycheck arealways welcomed, but we wantedto createa moredirect experience with the catalog.

Our hope is that each fulfilled request will cause a cele-bration atthe nonprofit, a momentof sharedjoy forthe giver

and receiver.Weve made it simple to participate. Each item described

in thecatalog includes a directnumber for donors to call.As each request is filled, the Statesman Journal will rec-

ordthesuccessand post anupdate inour wish list databaseatStatesmanJournal.com/Giving.

It is our hope that every wish will be granted by Dec. 31.Given thegenerosityof thecommunity, its a prettysurebet.

Wehope youenjoylooking through thecatalog as we taketime atThanksgiving to recallhow blessed we areto live in aland of freedom and opportunity.

Thank you for considering this chance to help those who

    help.
