    This meeting is being held in conformity to the Open Public Meetings Act N.J.S.A. 10:4-6 et. seq.Proper public notice of the meeting was published in the local papers on October 9, 2010.

    If any Board member or member of the public in attendance believes that the meeting is in violation ofthe Open Public Meetings Act, the Hoboken Board of Education requests that they make a statement atthis time.

    The Board wishes to make those in attendance aware that this meeting is being recorded on video and willbe broadcast by the Board at a later date on CATV Channel 77.

    1. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend approval of the 2009-2010 AnnualDistrict Electronic Violence and Vandalism Report, as presented and discussed on October 12th atthe Annual Hearing.

    2. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the approval of Maria Vazquez for theposition of Executive Confidential Secretary to the School Business Administrator/BoardSecretary for the 2010-2011 School Year at a salary of $53,500.00 per year, prorated, effectiveSeptember 20, 2010. (The Executive Confidential Secretary position is a non-affiliatedposition and title, attached to the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, and School BusinessAdministrator. The incumbent serves under direct contract with the Hoboken Board ofEducation.)

    3. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend approval, based on communicationfrom Alexis Reidy, teacher at Wallace School to request a maternity leave during the 2010-2011school year due to the birth of her son in August 2010. (Expected date of return: September 1,2011).

    4. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend approval, based on communicationfrom Francine Yu-Reside, teacher at Connors School, to request a leave as of December 13, 2010using all accumulated sick and personal days until January 27, 2011, and then January 28, 2011until April 22, 2011 Family Leave; and from April 25, 2011 until June 30, 2011 as MaternityLeave.

    5. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the acceptance of the resignation forreasons of retirement of Mr. John Henning, Night Head Custodian of Wallace School effective

    October 1, 2010. The Board of Education expresses appreciation to Mr. Henning for his

    dedicated services to the children of Hoboken.

    6. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the acceptance of the newly developedSpecial Education Manual. (The manual shall serve as the basic resource tool for our Special

    Education Department.)

    7. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the extension of the contract of theInterim High School Principal, Mr. Albert Joy, until June 30, 2011, at no change in rate orbenefits (save the granting of five vacation/sick days to be used between January 1, 2011 and

    June 30, 2011). Through this resolution it is the Boards desire to express its appreciation of Mr.

    Joys contribution to the district as well as to maintain continuity for the remainder of the 2010-

    2011 School Year.

    8. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend that the Hoboken Board of Educationrecognize the fact that the next cycle of NJQSAC, State monitoring of governance, personnel,

    programs and facilities, shall be conducted during the 2010-2011 school year, and shall dutifully

    accept all the components inherent therein, including but not limited to the District PerformanceReview. In addition, the Board hereby appoints Mr. Robert H. Davis, Interim Board Secretary, as

    Chairperson of the districts QSAC Committee with individual committee members to be named

    soon.

    9. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the acceptance of the Laptop InternetUse Agreement between the 2010-2011 seventh grade students and 2010-2011 eighth grade

    students and their parents, and the Hoboken Board of Education.

    10. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the appointment of the following staffto the Calabro School After-School Tutoring Program and Advisor positions for the 2010-2011

    School Year payable under account 15-401-100-100-04-1903-000. The after-school program will

    run Monday through Thursday from 2:45 pm 3:45 pm. The salary is $34.00 per hour as per

    HEA contract not to exceed $11,526.00.

Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend, based on communication from VictoriaChodos, French teacher at Hoboken High School, the request for a maternity leave as of January31, 2011 using all accumulated sick and personal days until April 28, 2011, and then FMLA forsix weeks, to return to her position on Monday, May 2, 2011.

Submitting for review and approval, I hereby request the Board of Education grant permissionfor Hoboken High School to conduct an Open House on November 18, 2010 from 9:00 am to11:00 am for the community. The focus of the Open House is to promote the curricular and otherofferings at Hoboken High School.

    17. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the staff member, Isabel Bruno, beadded to the pool of teachers for the After School Library Aide position for the 2010-2011 SchoolYear. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the staff member, Patricia Drumgoole,to the position of Youth Development Specialist for the School Based Youth Services Programfor the 2010-2011 School Year beginning on October 13, 2010 and ending on June 30, 2011. Thesalary is $34.00 per hour not to exceed $5,100.00. Charge to line item #20-436-200-100-13-000-7989.

    19. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend that the board accept the resignation ofWilliam Apicella as the African American Club Advisor for the 2010-2011 School year (due tomedical reasons).

    20. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby request the board grant permission for HobokenHigh School to have a Career Lunch Series in which the professionals from the Hobokencommunity will be invited to share their expertise and provide career information to the students.This series of events is a follow-up activity to Junior Prep Day which was held last school year.Lunch cost charge to line item #20-436-200-800-13-0251-000.

    21. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby request the Board of Education grant permission forHoboken High School to apply for a $5,000.00 grant from Lowes Home Improvement forparental involvement. If the grant application is successful it would allow us to purchasematerials and books to create a parent resource center in the Media Center.

    Submitting for review and approval, I hereby request the acceptance of the resignation for reasonof retirement of Ms. Rosemary Purwin, teacher at Wallace School, effective January 1, 2011.The Board hereby expresses appreciation to Ms. Purwin for her dedicated services to the childrenof Hoboken.

Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the Board of Education grantpermission for Hoboken High School to have a guest speaker from the Lindsay Meyer Institute toprovide peer mediation, peer counseling training to our peer counselors in preparation for theAnti-Violence Week. The cost to the district will be $800.00. Charge to line item #15-213-100-

    26. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the Board of Education grantpermission for Hoboken High School to have a volunteer guest speaker, Stewart Chirachella fromthe Hoboken Municipal Alliance Group to come in and speak about drugs and alcohol recovery.There will be no cost to the district for this guest speaker.

    27. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend the acceptance of the resignation ofEdward Tirone from the position of Head Custodian (grounds) JFK Stadium as of February 1,2011. The Board hereby expresses appreciation to Mr. Tirone for his dedicated services to the

    children of Hoboken.

    28. Submitting for review and approval, I hereby recommend that the Board appoint the followingstaff to the Family Friendly Program at Connors School for the 2010-2011 School Year. Thisprogram will run three days per week from 3:00 p.m. until 6:15 p.m. for a total of 70 days.Funding from line item #20-438-100-101-13-1012-000 starting October 19, 2010. (Stipendshown as per HEA contract)
