It was an amazing event as usual with first-class ritualism from the members of the State Ritual Team. This year, we are only five new members away from positive growth. We have such an amazing opportunity here, let’s meet this goal together! Additionally, as we come closer to the first of the year, I would like to remind all those eligible that January 1 is the deadline for State Officer Applications. If you would like to apply, applications can be found on the Oregon DeMolay website. Please send them to either the State Dad or any state officer should you be unable to do that. Finally, December will be the month that chapters and the state corps will be focusing on member retention. We have all experienced a brother disappearing from our ranks and we all strive to combat that. Please take this month as an opportunity to have an event celebrating all of your hard work as members of Oregon DeMolay and make sure that celebration happens with your brethren. DeMolay 4 Hire Members of the Pilgrim Chapter Order of DeMolay have an ongoing "DeMolay 4 Hire" fundraiser and are

here to lend a hand. The Pilgrim Chapter members are willing to work for you for donations to the chapter. Tasks can range from mowing the lawn, yard work, pet care, snow removal or special projects. A minimum

of two DeMolay must be hired to do a job. Call Dad Travis Bryan at 541-647-4833 or Dad Dale Claypool at 541-408-1740 if you have a job or task and would like to hire the Pilgrim Chapter to help. Once the work is

completed, you can make a donation to the Pilgrim Chapter directly.

Let’s sell those conclave ads. All the Oregon lodges have their in-

stallations before St. John’s Day (December 27). What a great op-

portunity to visit lodges and introduce them to DeMolay. Ask about

visiting a meeting and ask the members to visit your Chapter. What a great way to earn a Masonic

Attendance merit bar. Don’t forget all the other organizations in your area. After New Years visit

local businesses. This is when many businesses start planning their years advertising. Let’s fill up

the souvenir program, and pay for conclave! Contact Mom Anna Lamb for forms and more infor-

mation at [email protected].

Galloping Gavel

Where is the travel gavel? What chapter

has it? There is a special section on the

web page to let you know. Plus, it has the

rules to steal...I mean grab it for your

chapter.

Note from our State Executive Officer

Hello Everyone,

It is that time of the year again when all of our chapters should

hold their annual meeting to decide who will fill what roles in

2018. It is also time to complete your chapter report and fill out your continuing advisor

registrations. With DeMolay Internationals new data base program, eScribe, it is fast and easy. All

registrations are due by December 31. All Chapter Reports will be available by February 2, 2018.

If you have new members who were in the Grand Master’s Class or have been

obligated in your chapter that you have not yet registered with DeMolay

International, please do so as soon as possible. The young men are not officially

members of DeMolay until their registration is complete. As an FYI, if all the

young men who were part of the Grand Master’s class get registered we will

have positive growth by one DeMolay. That is exciting, but not nearly as exciting

as the thought that our new members will be active members and invite their

friends to also join. I have never been one to care about statistics or membership drives. What I do

care about is giving as many young men as possible the positive experience that DeMolay can offer.

Whether you are a current or past Advisor, or an Active or Senior DeMolay, parent or friend, I would

like to know your thoughts on how we can grow DeMolay in Oregon and make it a positive

experience for as many young men as we can reach.

One tool that we have to grow DeMolay that has been very underutilized in

Oregon is the Squires. We will talk more about this program in the future,

but what I want to say now is that it has been extremely successful in

building DeMolay Chapters both in the U.S. and internationally. My ultimate

goal is that every chapter sponsors at least one Squire Manor.

Finally, I want to wish each of you a very merry Christmas and the best New

Year ever.

Executive Officer for Oregon

We have had such great fun. Having turkey dinner with old

friends and new. SJC Ian Summers and State Dad Craig

Thornburg did a deep fried turkey. It was SO yummy. Plus

all the other dishes and the DESSERTS! I know I gained

weight. A BIG thank you to everyone who participated and

brought family, friends and food. Learning new things at Ad-

visor Training was spectacular. Dad Warren Cole made it fun

and enjoyable. Everyone felt comfortable discussing what

they like and don’t like and what they wish they could change.

Here at the office, we are doing our best to bring it all together. Watch-

ing NINE young men go through Grand Master’s Class was so VERY

exciting. I don’t think I have ever seen so many newbies. Tigard-

Orenomah has come back to life. Dad Jones is doing his best to bring in

all the fun. November and early December have been very busy. Instal-

lations are coming up. Last chance degree night at Canby and another

opportunity to get your boogie on

at the Winter Wonderland Dance

in Forest Grove. It is so nice to see the youth

groups working together to put on events and pro-

spect parties. Don’t forget to buy your tickets for the

Winterhawks game. State Officers are having a

contest. They all want to be first in ticket sales! If

you want to be a state officer, the deadline is upon

us. Get your application in. Everyone with a DI

number should go into eScribe and verify your infor-

mation. Complete anything that needs completing

and do some general tidying up. CYA next year!
