Presentation Notes
School Commandant As the Commandant of the Armor School, I am responsible for the operation of the US Army Armor School; which includes the development and conduct of training, and providing adequate resources in support of our schools‘ training requirements for our annual training load of approximately 30,000 Soldiers and leaders per year. I also oversee budget execution and personnel manning across the Armor School. Chief of Armor As the Chief of Armor, my responsibility is to serve as the Armor branch proponent with the primary responsibility for training, leader development, and personnel within the branch. With a focus on the needs of the Armor Force, while teaming with the Chief of Infantry, we recommend to the Commanding General changes to doctrine, organizational construct, training and leader development, materiel solutions, and promotion guidance that affect the Armored, Infantry, and Stryker Brigade Combat Teams. Deputy Commanding Generals- Armor (DCG-A) a. Command oversight of special areas of emphasis, events, and initiatives as designated by the CG. These could be, but are not necessarily related to their branch proponency. In this role, they are the command's direct responsible agents for forwarding these efforts, and have tasking authority as required for their completion. An example of this is the "Squad Foundation of the Decisive Force" initiative started in 2011 under DCG-I oversight. b. Provides oversight of the Directorate of Training (DOT) with the intent of enabling their mission. Monitors implementation of guidance, quality of performance, and champions DOT resourcing and prioritization issues within the Command Group in order to provide additional visibility, synchronization, and integration across the MCoE. c. DCG-I and DCG-A co-chair the CGAC with the Director, CDlD. d. Serve as executive members of the funding and contracting boards. e. Participate in Command Group battle rhythm events.

Standardized the Scout Platoon in all the Cavalry Troops Increased ability to conduct Reconnaissance & Security Increased leader to led ratio through the introduction of a dedicated Squad Leader (SSG) increase leader development opportunities & skill set competencies Increased versatility and mobility through the standardization of like vehicles within each platoon (6 Bradley’s replacing 3x5 mix) Increased ability for SBCT Scout Platoons to accomplish doctrinal tasks with reduced risks (lateral route reconnaissance) Currently, no suitable light vehicle available to support 6 dismounts, the IBCT Scout Platoon would be equipped with 9 HMMWV

Mobile Protected Precision Firepower

(MPPF) • Provide MPPF to IBCTs • Provide offensive capabilities to effectively engage and destroy targets at increased ranges • Effectively traverse restrictive terrain to close with and destroy the enemy • Air deployable in combat configuration • Scalable levels of protection

Gaining and Maintaining Access: An Army-Marine Corps Concept March 2012 Conduct combined arms forcible entry operations as part of the joint force by parachute, air, or amphibious assault (surface and vertical) into austere and unexpected locations with little or no advanced notice. Rapidly build combat power by increasing the speed by which follow-on forces are employed. -- LTG Walker (US. ARMY) & LTG Mills (USMC)

Presentation Notes
Recognizing and addressing the need for stabilized and offensive mobile, protected, precision firepower within the Infantry and Stryker Brigade Combat (IBCTs) teams is vital moving forward. Over recent years, our allies have researched and developed new and capable Infantry Vehicles with more advanced weapon systems and protection. Most of these vehicles utilize wheel-based platforms armed with at least 25-millimeter cannons. We owe it to our light formations to provide mobile, protected, precision firepower to assist them in closing on the last 100 yards. The IBCTs strengths include its ability to deploy rapidly conduct forcible early entry operations, operate dismounted in restrictive terrain and demand less logistical support than other BCTs. However, the lack of precision fire power, protection, and tactical and operational mobility stand out as its most acute capability gaps. In operations against capable enemy organizations, the IBCTs lack of mobility, protection, and precision fire power make it vulnerable to enemy direct and indirect fires while limiting its freedom of movement and action. To address these tactical and operational needs to conduct decisive action the Army requires rapidly deployable, mobile, protected, precision fire power, and a critical component of joint war fighting.
