During the summer my brother wanted to give me long boarding lessons a couple of days during the week and that was how it all got started. I decided to write about being literate with long boarding because I’m not as literate with riding a longboard compared to many others out their but I’m literate enough for myself. And when I say I'm literate with riding a longboard, I mean that I can ride down my driveway without busting my head open (because of course I’m wearing a helmet) and I can slowly turn around the cul-de-sac. It’s really nothing that impressive but to me it’s the greatest accomplishment ever. Before I even thought about learning how to ride a longboard, my brother was already literate with riding one and I used to just watch in awe. My brother would constantly tell me to try it out and after a few months I eventually did. He started off by showing me how to stand on the board correctly and he also would give me tips on what to do and what not to do. He would have me hold his hands while I was on the board and he would walk back and forth, which honestly that little movement scared the crap out of me. My brother totally got a kick out of me and he sometimes called me “a chicken,” but whatever. He is 4 years younger than me too, like I'm not supposed to be the scaredy cat.

Starting Draft

There are a few topics that I’m literate in, such as playing volleyball, having my own

business, painting with acrylics, etc. In particular there was one topic I wanted to become literate

with and that was riding a longboard. During the summer my brother wanted to give me long

boarding lessons a couple of days during the week and that was how it all got started.

I decided to write about being literate with long boarding because I’m not as literate with

riding a longboard compared to many others out their but I’m literate enough for myself. And

when I say I'm literate with riding a longboard, I mean that I can ride down my driveway without

busting my head open (because of course I’m wearing a helmet) and I can slowly turn around the

cul-de-sac. It’s really nothing that impressive but to me it’s the greatest accomplishment ever.

Before I even thought about learning how to ride a longboard, my brother was already

literate with riding one and I used to just watch in awe. My brother would constantly tell me to

try it out and after a few months I eventually did. He started off by showing me how to stand on

the board correctly and he also would give me tips on what to do and what not to do. He would

have me hold his hands while I was on the board and he would walk back and forth, which

honestly that little movement scared the crap out of me. My brother totally got a kick out of me

and he sometimes called me “a chicken,” but whatever. He is 4 years younger than me too, like

I'm not supposed to be the scaredy cat.

Anyway, week after week he would help me ride the longboard. Finally the day came! I

can now ride a longboard down my driveway without the help of my brother. I wanted to be

literate enough to ride a longboard around the UNCC campus but I'm just not on that level of

literacy yet, maybe next year. I’m so happy that my brother was patient enough to help me out

and now I can proudly say that I'm literate with riding a longboard.
