Mobile Broadband Terms
• Dongle– Small piece of USB hardware that picks up
Bluetooth and 3G Signals
• 3G– Allows high speed wireless data transfer
• Bluetooth– Allows the exchange of data over short
distances
Mobile Broadband – Advantages & Disadvantages
Can access the internet from anywhere
Does not rely on Wi-Fi connections
No landline needed
All data encrypted using 3G unlike Wi-Fi
Dongle doesn’t use power unlike home router
× 3G signal might be weak or not available in all areas× More expensive ×Probably pay more if download/upload limit reached× Access abroad is very expensive ( roaming charges)× Dongle could be lost or stolen× Access all the time can result in working 24/7 - stress

• The internet allows people to work together no matter where they are based

Latency and JitterLatency
Delay between the chunks (packets) of data as it travels from the start point to the destination. The delay between packets is constant. Results in an overall delay from start to end of message which is noticeable to the human ear.
Jitter
Variation in the delay between packets. Results in a stuttering effect in the voice call.

• Wikis- organising ideas of a group- working together on a project- getting feedback on products
• Forums– Keep in touch with others in their industry/field– Keep up to date with developments– Get help from others with similar interests
