When you look up a verb in the dictionary, it will end in either ER, IR or RE. This
means ‘to _______’, e.g. ‘to play’.

VERBS IN THE PAST
To talk about the past, you have to change the ending, e.g. to play played.
This is called the PAST PARTICIPLE. Look at the verbs below –how do they change?

‘-er’ verbs- Remove r - Add an accent on the last e ée.g. jouer joué
‘-ir’ verbs-Remove re.g. finir fini- ‘-re’ verbs - Remove re -Add u e.g. vendre vendu

Change the verb in brackets to the past participle. Look at your book for help!
Now use your dictionary to look up the verb in brackets in French, then change it to the past.
