• Vitanea Ltd. produces natural fruit nectars,

juices and syrups which contain Aronia. For a

long time, Aronia Berry which served as food,

drink and medicine to Eastern European

Farmers during the cold war, has been

forgotten. In recent years, however, scientists

around the world realizing its health benefits are

determined to bring it back.

• Interest of Aronia among these scientists stems from its

intense and deep color, which is a result of high levels of

phytochemicals, especially anthocyanins. Anthocyanins’

pigments are believed to be responsible for many of the

antioxidants and anti-carcinogenic characteristics of plants.

• In general, darker fruits that are more deeply colored with

blue and red pigments contain higher levels of antioxidants.

Why Aronia? • Free radicals are natural produced in our organisms. They

damage lipids, cell membranes, DNA and protein molecules.

Antioxidants neutralize their harmful effects. Our bodies have a

Company Background

• VITANEA LTD. is a family run business found by its current

majority owner, Prof. Dr. Christo Kratchanov, who began the

research and the production of aronia products in 1978 in

Bulgaria. Prof. Kratchanov created, studied and confirmed the

benefits of Aronia which are available through Vitanea.

• The company structure includes a study-manufacturing facility at the Laboratory of Biologically Active Substances from the Institute of Organic Chemistry at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and a second scientific division from the University of Food Technologies in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

• In 2003 VITANEA became a private company. Originally intended for the Bulgarian (domestic) market, now Vitanea exports to foreign markets such as the United States, Japan, Israel, Serbia and Belgium.

Production

The original technology of prof. Kratchanov is based on cold

extraction of the juice from the fruits:

• mechanic press is used for the processing and extraction of the

juice from the fruit;

melanocarpa - the natural source of antioxidants;
