startup nc reentry Mission Ideas

Truly, all Americans are involved in this issue in one way or another. We encourage people to come gain new insight into best practices, the new reentry process, and changes in the criminal justice system that are underway. Church, community, and non-profit leaders are all needed and welcomed in hopes each may gain greater understanding of the "mission fields in their own backyards.”

As boots on the ground at StepUp, I believe the number one problem facing people with criminal convictions is employability. As an AlphaUSA volunteer at Butner Federal Correctional Center, those we minister to have real fears about being allowed to make it on the outside. The consequences of a conviction are severe and long lasting. People who have completed their sentences continue to repeatedly be branded offender on the outside.

“The most meaningful choice I made was to become a volunteer in a women’s prison. It touched my heart and helped me grow in my faith! I talk about those experiences and share the joy— and interesting people every week.”

The era of mass-incarceration in America is coming to a close.

“Let’s keep blame and politics out of this. It is time to simply get down to the business of planning community reentry and coordinating what is needed for success. How can you help?”
