Now you can start more Littles on the path to Big things by participating in the Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters (GCBBBS) 27 th Annual Bowl For Kids Sake (BFKS) on August 7 th , 12 th , and 14 th at AMF Star Lanes in Texas City. The BFKS event is our signature fundraising event that allows us to continue to serve hundreds of children throughout Galveston County. We must raise 100% of our operating budget making this event the lifeline that enables our doors to remain open to the families whose child needs a positive role model in their life. After losing significant state, federal, and local funding, BFKS will be the key financial resource for our agency this year. Research shows that a child needs an average of 4-6 positive influences in their life to have a better chance of reaching their full potential. Who knows what a child is capable of with the right examples to follow? Think back to your childhood. Who was that special person, other than your parents, who made a difference in your life when you were growing up? Was it a favorite teacher, a scout leader, a coach, a relative or family friend? What was it that made them so special? It was because they cared and took an interest in you? They created a little magic in your life just like our Big Brothers and Big Sisters do each time they see their Littles. Simply put, mentoring works! It works to ensure a more educated work force, a more successful customer base, and a long-term economic viability of the community. Our mission to help chil- dren reach their potential through professionally supported one-to-one relationships with measurable impact is dependent on the success of this event and your partnership is not only vital to our sustaining this mission of mentoring, but for local businesses who get involved it is also is a very smart, tangible business decision, one that will have a positive impact on your company as well. “Bowl For Kids' Sake brings the whole community together in support of a posi- tive future for our kids,” said Pamela Gabriel, President of the Gulf Coast Big Brothers Big Sisters Board of Directors. No matter how someone chooses to be involved-- bowler, team captain, sponsor, or even a virtual bowler--each person has a hand in helping to start a child on the right path. Every dollar raised through Bowl for Kids' Sake directly funds our mentoring programs in Galveston County and helps to maintain and sustain our mentoring relationships, increasing a child’s chances for success.” Start Something now by getting involved! Whether you start a team, become a corporate sponsor (see sponsor packages on pg. 3), or make a donation, your efforts ensure more Bigs and Littles can be paired up, more friendships can begin and im- proved outlooks on life can be started. We are challenging everyone-mentors and mentees, their friends and families, partners, community leaders, as well as oth- ers who may not have time to mentor but support BBBS' mission- to join Bowl For Kids' Sake and Start Something Big to change the life of a child forever. By Barbara Legate 1st Place Individual Fundraiser I became interested in Big Broth-ers Big Sisters many years ago when a friend asked if I would bowl with her in the Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraising event. I started with my family and friends and then started asking everyone I knew if they would sponsor me for

the event. I didn’t realize how easy it was to raise money! Most every-one I asked agreed to sponsor me at some level. The first year I bowled, our team was the #1 fundraising team and we received a big trophy; which I proudly displayed in our house. For at least another 10 years I bowled on the #1 fundraising team. I no longer bowl in the event but continue to raise money each year for BBBS with my husband at my side who supports me every step of the way. The trophy and prizes are nice but the “BIG” deal is thinking about the chil-dren we help with the funds raised through BFKS each year. I love rais-ing money for Big Brothers Big Sisters and know how much they appre-ciate all fundraising efforts. I look forward to BFKS each year and to raising money for this wonderful organization. I hope that my contribu-tions continue to be valuable in their own way.
