With only 3 weeks of the new term complete, the summer holidays are fading into our memories as the pace picks up in school.

We hope you enjoy reading the details of all of the events and activities over the summer and at the start of term.

New York Academ y of Sciences Sum m it

Vaidehi Shah (S6), worked with students from USA and Macedonia to solve the problem of providing people with access to clean water while Manaal Shah (S5) and Ellie Marsh (S4) tackled the problem of food wastage.

Over 2,000 students applied for a place on the Academy, with only 280 being accepted worldwide. Of these 280, all three Craigholme girls made it into the final.

They were invited to present their project at The New York Academy of Sciences Summit, all-expenses-paid. Their trip included a variety of New York City cultural experiences as well as opportunities to connect with other STEM professionals.

At the event, Vaidehi's team won the overall prize for their section and Manaal and Ellie presented their project to PEPSICO where their work was recognised with a certificate of excellence. A fantastic achievement for each of these girls and an inspiration to other girls looking to follow a STEM career.

Last year Vaidehi Shah, Manaal Shah and Ellie Marsh completed a project for the International STEM Junior Academy which resulted in them making a trip to New York in the Summer to present their ideas at a summit. Each year, students are invited to apply to join The Junior Academy. They have to submit a scientific essay and if they are successful, they go on to take part in an innovative challenge in which they develop advanced research, innovation, and collaboration skills, working with like-minded students across the globe.

S4 Business Managem ent Tr ip t o Coca Cola

To aid understanding of production methods, S4 Business students visited Coca Cola Enterprises, East Kilbride. Gaining access to the facility was very regimented, illustrating the importance Coca Cola place on the protection of their brand and their production methods. During a tour of the facility the girls were able to see first hand the end to end production process with the overall visit being instrumental in allowing the girls to form a deep understanding of capital intensive production.

The senior 5 Higher Geography class spent the weekend in Millport where they took part in beach profiling, soil sampling and pebble analysis as data collection for their Higher Assignments.

Geography Field Tr ip Safet y in t he Park Junior 7 attended the annual Safety in the Park event which is a Magic Wand Community Health and Safety project designed to educate children on a variety of topics including internet safety, stranger danger, road safety, the affects of alcohol, hidden sugars and eco safety. The girls felt that this was a fun, amusing and valuable experience.

Over the summer new computers have been installed in the Senior School Resource Centre and Business Studies classroom. Our thanks to the Parents Association for funding this additional equipment. In addition, we have upgraded the domain controller improving the management ability over the network. Pupils and staff are now working from Office 365 enabling remote access to files.
