Is Democracy in Decline Worldwide?
June 12th • 2:00pm • Auditorium
Winston Churchill is quoted as saying that “democracy is
the worst form of Government except for all
those other forms that have been tried.” So how is
democracy doing? What has caused the current wave
of populism that is straining democratic institutions around
the world? We will discuss what people generally mean
when they refer to democracy, its status around the world
and the forces that are lessening the appeal of democratic
forms of government.
LGBTQIA History
June 22nd • 2:00pm • Auditorium
In preparation for the annual Pride Parade hosted in St.
Pete as well as around the world, we will take an inclusive
look into the history of LGBTQIA dating as far back as 2450
BCE. Learning about this history is not only crucial to fight
the stigma surrounding the community, but necessary in
order for us as a society to better understand our world
and our differences.

Our Summit Award program at Watermark is
designed to encourage and acknowledge excellence
by recognizing our valuable associates for their
outstanding leadership, attitude, achievements
and contributions. Management and peers are able
to nominate each other once a year for these
positive attributes. Through the nomination process,
the corporate leadership board then chooses who
will receive awards out of all the responses. Some
awards are awarded per building, and then there are
some that are only awarded to one building within
the entire Watermark Company. Celebrate our
associates, families and volunteers at this formal
award ceremony on June 14th at 2:00pm in the
Auditorium.
Let's get wild! Join us for a swingin' jungle party as
we dance to the beat of our own drums. Swing on
over from your tree tops in your best jungle attire
and feel free to get your face painted as your favorite
animal in the hour prior to the party from 12:45 to
1:45 in the Friendship Room! Let's go bananas, as
this party is guaranteed to be more fun than a barrel
of monkeys! Bring your appetite and let's get
swingin' on the dance floor with one of our favorite
bands and let's get this Wild Jungle Safari Party
rockin' and rollin' on June 28th at 2pm in the
Auditorium.

There are a handful of people in this world that are able to handle an
overwhelming number of tasks and remain dedicated and compassionate
while tending to all items and people. Eva Viera exudes this quality, and so
much more. She is kind, friendly, always well-meaning and strives to do the

seriously and loves to get dressed up for all theme days, she encourages
everyone to get involved as well. Eva is a burst of energy and her
personality radiates and uplifts those around her and the Community Life
team is so grateful to have such an amazing asset!

NEW OUTING LOTTERY SYSTEM
Effective immediately, to fairly accommodate the mass
influx of resident sign ups for trips and the new safety
protocol for the bus, we are implementing a lottery
system for outings that have WAIT LISTS. Please
continue to use the reservation call line and you must
sign up in advance. The day prior to the outing at 3pm,
a list will be posted at the Front Desk with the names
of the residents that have been selected by the random
lottery system. It is imperative that when calling the
reservation line to say if you have a walker, wheelchair,
electric scooter or wheel chair. The reason being is that
since there are a certain amount of mobility devices
that can be taken on the bus safely, there will be three
different categories for the lottery system to select
from. We believe this will not only make the trips
safer, but give everyone a fair chance.
Imagine spending an afternoon up close and personal
with the majestic giraffes as they roam in their natural
habitat? At Giraffe Ranch & Safari in Dade City, we'll
experience first hand, the lives of giraffe and other
species from around the world living under huge live
oaks and open grasslands in a setting that is right out
of Africa. We'll be conducted through pristine live oak
hammocks and ephemeral wetlands in comfort and
safety with spectacular close-up encounters.
Cost is $75 and includes the tour and Lunch at
Limoges. There are other encounters you can sign up
for as well for an additional cost. If you're interested in
joining us on this unique and memorable trip, please
see Community Life by June 3rd to sign up for this
outing. We can take a maximum of 17 Independent
Living residents, but families can meet us there if
interested!
Out and AboutHop on the bus and join us as we explore different
restaurants and exciting places around the area. If
you'd like to attend any of these outings, please call
812-3904 or sign up in the Outings Book. Outings that
have waiting lists will be placed into the Lottery
System. If using your room phone to call, you must dial
(9) before dialing any outside line.

Oh, what a beautiful May! We welcomed the month on our
new waterfront patio for a Kentucky Derby happy hour,
celebrated our mothers with a special Two Chefs as well as a
tea party. Not to mention, making tiaras and all butter cookies
and watching the royal wedding was highly entertaining! A
group of us braved the potential weather and picnicked
before it got too hot on the waterside of Fort Desoto and took
a mystery trip to the Imagine Museum. We celebrated all of
our nurses as the superhero's they truly are and later
remembered and celebrated the lives of those that served and
those that were unable to come home on Memorial Day,
including a trip to the Bay Pines Memorial Day Ceremony.
May has been good to us, we have high hopes June will, too!
