Importance of Fan Mail

• Fans connected to the stars. Offered advice and asked questions about their lives.

• Hollywood studios monitored the content of fan mail, and crafted the stars persona based on fan mail.

• The amount of fan mail gauged a star’s popularity and could lead to better contracts.

• Even during wartime, fans (some in extreme conditions) continued to write to their favorite stars.
