Some sold paerns for purses and bags to use the license plates, in addion to pins, earrings, and fabric that complemented the water theme and license plates. Some row paerns were great designs reflecng the locali- ty of the shop, or something of historical significance in the area. Designs included such things as bridges, umbrellas, fish, fishing rods, mermaids, galoshes, raindrops, water foun- tains, and scenes such as a camper at the lake, etc. Some of the kits were one of a kind and you just had to buy it. Quilt- ers were exchanging paerns and license plates from differ- ent states and even from Canada. When sewn together, the rows give each quilter a unique quilt which reflects where they traveled during the summer, a great souvenir. You can see some of the finished quilts online at hps:// www.rowbyrowexperience.com/. It was a wonderful adventure; and, in my mind there re- mains one certainty. You should never underesmate the creavity of quilters. Happy quilng! Jackie

Last year, I really wasn’t aware of the Row by Row (RXR) experience until late August when it was al-most over. I then picked up a few patterns and kits from local quilt shops. The patterns were quilting blocks which sewn together made a row. At that time, I thought of the RXR experience as the simple adventure of obtaining a free pattern for a row from a partic-ipating shop; and, sewing the rows together made your quilt. This year there was so much more to the RXR experience. Quilters/shops upped their game. The RXR this year had a theme which was water. I found that I was being caught up in its undertow. In addition to a free pattern, the shops also sold kits for their pattern, and their own license plates. Some sold patterns for purses and bags to use the license plates, in addition to pins, earrings, and fabric that complemented the water theme and license plates. Some row patterns were great designs reflecting the locali-ty of the shop, or something of historical significance in the area. Designs included such things as bridges, umbrellas, fish, fishing rods, mermaids, galoshes, raindrops, water foun-tains, and scenes such as a camper at the lake, etc. Some of the kits were one of a kind and you just had to buy it. Quilt-ers were exchanging patterns and license plates from differ-ent states and even from Canada. When sewn together, the rows give each quilter a unique quilt which reflects where they traveled during the summer, a great souvenir. You can see some of the finished quilts online at https://www.rowbyrowexperience.com/. It was a wonderful adventure; and, in my mind there re-mains one certainty. You should never underestimate the creativity of quilters. Happy quilting! Jackie

Art Quilts

September

22

Marg is an artist in any medium she chooses. She will share with us her art quilts that combine multiple fabrics and accessories of all kinds. Look on YouTube at her November 2011 art show for a brief look at the type of work that Marg creates!

Bucket Brigade Back in Action

Bring your dollars and be ready to SHOP, SHOP, SHOP. Instead of buckets, get ready to purchase fabric—lots and lots of fabric. We have received a fabulous donation and we are so excited to be offer-ing $1.00 for fat quarters (we have more than 650), patterns for $1.00 (more than 100 fabulous current patterns), odd cut yards (bigger than a fat quarter and less than a yard) for a $1.00, scrap bags that include more than 10 different fabrics for $1.00 each and fabric yardage for $2.00 a yard. This is such wonderful fabric, most of it Moda, with names of Jo Morton, Linda Brannock, Barbara Brackman, etc. This is a chance to buy high quality fabric at bargain prices. The sale will be prior to the meeting on Sept. 22nd starting at 6:00

pm. Bring your checkbooks and be prepared to have fun. The funds for this will go directly to have a national quilter come to speak and have a workshop. Even more fun. Come early; shop a lot. Thank you all in advance for all your participation in the past and ask you to come in and enjoy in the fun. Kim , Beverly & Deb

FOREVER CALENDARS

Don’t miss out on getting your “Forever Calendars”. These make great gifts for the coming holidays and can be used to list birthdays and anniversary, or any important dates. Use it to record home repairs (when was the last time you replaced that garbage disposal) or car maintenance (how old is that battery). Ideas are endless. It never gets old and can be kept with your records. Each month has a beautiful quilt block and the dates of the month. They are available at the Membership table for $8. Marilyn & Laura Carr

for a special drawing.

Project Linus—Lea Robrahn We have donated 387 blankets to Project Linus. Fabulous! That's 387 children

who are comforted by our blankets. Let’s keep it going. There are kits at each

meeting. If you don't have time to make a blanket, donate kid and ‘tween fab-

ric! Think about the 10 - 14 year-old. They generally don't want babies, pastel

bears or Bob The Builder. Think skateboards, bicycles, cars, sports, and other

age-appropriate pursuits for this age group.

Some things to remember for Project Linus blankets:

*When using fleece or flannel as a back, skip the batting. The layers are too

warm.

*Trim the threads.

*Smallest useable size: 36” x 36”. The best size is 40 x 55-60.

*Make it fun!

Rosemary Watrack’s husband is having some serious health issues so please keep them in your

thoughts and prayers. If you know of others who are going through difficult times, please let us

know so that we can reach out to them. Jackie Rudolph and the SQG Board

dition” by Alexandra Ledgerwood, and “100 Modern Quilt Blocks” by Tula Pink. If

you like seasonal quilts, try “Quilts that Celebrate Autumn & Winter”. There are

For history buffs we have “Clues in Calico, A guide to identifying and dating an-

tique quilts” by Barbara Brackman and “Feedsack Secrets, Fashion from hard

times”. And finally, we have added “A Colebridge Quilted Christmas” by Hazel-

wood (fiction) and “From the Good Earth” by Kris Kerrigan (Stories of farm life

in Iowa in the 70s and 80s and monthly quilt projects).

Tips of the Day—Fons & Porter

1. Used sewing machine needles make great “nails” to hang picture frames on the wall or

to hang quilts.

2. To get the perspective of distance on a quilt plan, view it through a door peephole insert

from the hardware store.
