01:02:49:13 GUIDE: First discovered in the Kirellian wastelands over 150 years ago, and the

highlight of our antiquities collection--The Great Ring of Avidan.

01:03:06:06 GUIDE (CONT’D): Researchers estimate the ring to be at least several thousand

years old, and while its origin remains a subject of debate, many believe

it was created by ancient worshipers to honor their gods. It's thought that

the peculiar symbols on the ring itself represent the names of the gods.

01:03:23:01 GUIDE (CONT’D O/S): However, no one has been able to decipher--

01:04:24:12 COMMANDER GARETH (O/S): In the name of the people of the Rand…

01:04:26:11 COMMANDER GARETH (CONT’D): Protectorate, I welcome you. You're Colonel

Carter?

01:04:29:19 CARTER: This is Teal'c and Dr. Daniel Jackson.


01:04:32:23 COMMANDER GARETH: It is a pleasure to finally meet you all face to face. But,

please, come.

01:04:38:16 COMMANDER GARETH (CONT’D): We have many questions, as I'm sure you do

as well.

01:04:42:15 CARTER: Sorry about scaring the tourists. We've made first contact with a lot of

planets, but this is the first time we found ourselves coming out of a

museum piece.

01:04:49:19 COMMANDER GARETH: One of our artifacts suddenly coming to life was a little

surprising, but that pales in comparison to its purpose. It is almost

beyond imagining.

01:04:58:20 KANE: As is the fact that you're human.

01:05:01:05 COMMANDER GARETH: My chief aide, Jared Kane.

01:05:03:03 DANIEL: Well, believe it or not, there's actually a good reason for us being

human.

01:05:06:18 CARTER: Which we'll get to in due time.

01:05:08:25 COMMANDER GARETH: Colonel, I hope that once we gain each others' trust,

you'll be able to shed some light on the technology that powers The

Great Ring.


01:05:16:06 COMMANDER GARETH (CONT’D O/S): It is unlike anything we have seen

before.

01:05:18:16 CARTER: We call it the stargate, and our people share the same hope,

Commander.

01:05:21:27 COMMANDER GARETH: Of course. In due time.

01:05:24:15 DANIEL: I take it "The Great Ring" is a recurring motif in your culture?

01:05:27:23 COMMANDER GARETH (O/S): It is simply a reminder of certain traditions…

01:05:30:00 COMMANDER GARETH (CONT’D): that predate our Age of Enlightenment. Most

people wear them more for the sake of fashion than for religious belief.

01:05:35:27 KANE: Our history tells of an age when all-powerful gods ruled our world. The

Great Ring was supposedly the source of their power.

01:05:43:00 COMMANDER GARETH: Of course, we know these are merely legends from our

ancient past. However, the activation of the ring may well cause a stir

amongst those few who still follow the old ways.

01:06:11:22 LEDA: Sorry. I didn't mean to wake you.

01:06:16:00 DANIEL: It's all right.

01:06:22:12 LEDA: For the pain.


01:06:32:00 LEDA (CONT’D): I wish I could give you more, but our medicine is in short supply.

01:06:37:00 DANIEL: Thank you.

01:06:40:04 LEDA: I'll leave you alone.

01:06:41:11 DANIEL: No. No, please. Stay.

01:06:50:03 O’NEILL: How'd it go with the...

01:06:51:12 DANIEL: Caledonians? Not so well, actually. My time with their representatives

was severely limited by Rand security forces.

01:06:58:15 DANIEL (CONT’D O/S): Apparently Gareth had national security concerns.

01:07:01:10 DANIEL (CONT’D): Mainly that we'd tell the Caledonians too much about the

stargate.

01:07:04:17 O’NEILL: Let me venture a wild guess. They don't get along so good?

01:07:12:00 DANIEL: The Rand Protectorate and the Caledonian Federation have been locked

in a state of cold war for decades. Each nation has enough weapons to

wipe each other off the face of the planet.

01:07:20:02 CARTER: Sounds depressingly familiar.


01:07:21:24 DANIEL: There's actually a third element which has me a little more concerned. A

group of religious fundamentalists led by a man named Soren.

01:07:28:04 DANIEL (CONT’D O/S): Now, these people think…

01:07:29:16 DANIEL (CONT’D): that all life on the planet was created by ancient gods, and

that these gods will someday return and reward them for their faith.

01:07:34:21 CARTER: And by coming through the stargate, we confirmed their beliefs.

01:07:38:26 DANIEL (O/S): And because the gate was activated…

01:07:40:01 DANIEL (CONT’D): in a public place, the Rand government has been unable to

prevent the rumors from spreading.

01:07:44:00 DANIEL (CONT’D O/S): Now, before we made contact with them…

01:07:45:12 DANIEL (CONT’D):these people were considered zealots who took the ancient

texts too literally. The gate being activated has given them all they need

to prove they were right all along. Their numbers will grow.

01:07:54:17 O’NEILL: That's terrible...and yet, not our problem.

01:08:04:14 DANIEL: Jack, you have to let me go back.

01:08:06:10 O’NEILL: If what you say is true, things are going to get a little out of hand over

there.


01:08:10:28 DANIEL: Yes, because of us. If we hadn't chosen to pay them a visit--

01:08:13:08 O’NEILL: They'd be far better off, I know. Daniel, we're always sticking our

collective noses where they don't belong. It's what we do.

01:08:19:00 DANIEL: I could help them understand what they're facing, make them see it's not

the end of the world. If we leave now, who knows what could happen.

We have to help them. You know that.

01:08:31:15 O’NEILL: Regular contact. No exceptions. The second things start getting a little

squirrelly--

01:08:35:20 DANIEL: Thank you.

01:08:36:20 O’NEILL: Daniel...

01:08:38:18 O’NEILL (CONT’D): Squirrelly.

01:08:39:18 DANIEL: Squirrelly.

01:08:53:13 LEDA: You shouldn't be standing.

01:08:54:16 DANIEL: Oh, don't let appearances fool you. I still feel terrible.

01:09:01:15 DANIEL (CONT’D): Leda, everything you've done for me--

01:09:02:15 LEDA (O/S): Has been for my own sake as well as yours.


01:09:05:19 LEDA (CONT’D): So much has happened. Caring for you has helped

me...continue on.

01:09:12:18 DANIEL: Yeah, what has happened, exactly? I mean...I remember being…

01:09:17:04 DANIEL (CONT’D O/S): in the bunker with Commander Gareth, and we were

attacked, and…

01:09:20:23 DANIEL (CONT’D): the rest is a fog.

01:09:22:23 LEDA: Jared is away searching for survivors. He should be back in a few days'

time. I think it would be best if he answered your questions.

01:09:29:21 DANIEL: Jared Kane.

01:09:33:20 DANIEL (CONT’D): Yeah, I remember him. He was in the bunker as well.

01:09:36:01 LEDA: My husband was Chief Aide to Commander Gareth.

01:09:38:08 DANIEL: "Husband. Was."

01:09:40:19 LEDA: He insisted I move here when the fighting reached the capital. He felt you

would be safest in my care.

01:09:47:15 DANIEL: Yeah, look, no offense, but I've really got to get back to my own world, or

at least contact them and let them know that I'm okay, so...


01:09:54:00 LEDA: Trying to reach The Great Ring will be impossible. Rebel patrols have been

sighted in the area. Even to leave the estate grounds would be

dangerous...not to mention the fact that you are far from healed.

01:10:05:00 LEDA (CONT’D O/S): You must rest, Daniel.

01:10:08:20 DANIEL: Leda, what happened to Commander Gareth?

01:10:19:08 O’NEILL (O/S): Give me good news, Colonel.

01:10:21:20 CARTER: I wish I could, sir.

01:10:23:08 CARTER (CONT’D): We met with Soren, leader of the rebels, but it was less

constructive than we hoped.

01:10:27:20 O’NEILL: How much less?

01:10:29:25 CARTER: We were only allowed to see him for 15 minutes.

01:10:32:10 TEAL’C: After keeping us waiting for several hours.

01:10:34:23 O’NEILL: Well, important matters of state, no doubt.

01:10:37:02 CARTER (O/S): He's managed to unite all the fundamentalist…

01:10:38:20 CARTER (CONT’D): factions in the Rand Protectorate, which effectively puts him

in control.


01:10:42:09 TEAL’C: He was most unwilling to allow us to search for Daniel Jackson.

01:10:45:21 CARTER: Before he insisted we leave, he did promise he would look into the

matter on our behalf. Whatever that means.

01:10:52:05 O’NEILL: Right. What about a UAV?

01:10:55:04 CARTER: He won't give us access to the surface. Plus, he claims it would

interfere with their own radio communication systems.

01:11:04:02 CARTER (CONT’D): I'm sorry, sir, but at this point, we have no way of knowing if

Daniel's still alive.

ACT TWO

01:11:37:20 DANIEL: And what does blue mean?

01:11:38:27 KANE: It's our second-to-highest level of military alert status. There’s been civil

unrest in several urban centers across the country. Over a dozen

municipalities have fallen into the hands of Soren's troops. Our forces

are in the process of pacifying those areas as we speak.

01:11:53:27 DANIEL: Pacifying?

01:11:55:04 KANE: Reclaiming our cities from the hands of religious madmen.

01:11:57:28 DANIEL: So civil unrest means you go to blue?

01:11:59:16 KANE: Under normal circumstances, no. Unfortunately, the situation has caused

other problems.

01:12:18:13 DANIEL: What's going on?

01:12:19:19 KANE: We were forced to heighten our alert status to match that of the

Caledonians.

01:12:23:13 COMMANDER GARETH: And I promise you, we will share this technology with

you once we fully understand it.


01:12:28:10 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO): You mean once you have assessed

its advantages to your national security. You have refused to allow our

scientists access to The Great Ring. You have limited our access to the

offworlders. We do not feel as much a part of this great discovery as you

do.

01:12:42:28 COMMANDER GARETH: And had the ring been activated on Caledonian soil,

you would have done no differently. Minister Treydan, I am simply asking

your government for patience.

01:12:49:27 COMMANDER GARETH (CONT’D O/S): Stand down your high alert, and we will

do the same.

01:12:53:23 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO): Typically, you trust your people too

much, Commander. Caledonia has been under strict martial law since

news of the offworlders' arrival began to spread. Our domestic security

remains intact.

01:13:06:02 COMMANDER GARETH: The citizens of this world are not children. They just

need time to come to terms with this information.

01:13:12:28 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO): Soren and his followers have already

seized control of more than a dozen of your cities. Your people are

panicked, and your country is on the verge of collapse. I urge you to deal

with this situation in a swift and decisive manner. Should control of the

Rand Protectorate fall into Soren's hands, we'll consider it an act of war.


01:13:35:21 DANIEL (V/O): This is Daniel Jackson…

01:13:36:21 DANIEL (CONT’D O/S INTO RADIO): calling Stargate Command. Come in,

please.

01:13:38:10 (RADIO FEEDBACK)

01:13:40:02 DANIEL (CONT’D INTO RADIO): This is Daniel Jackson calling Stargate

Command. Please respond.

01:13:56:14 LEDA: Any luck?

01:13:59:19 DANIEL: No. Nothing yet.

01:14:03:09 LEDA: You've been trying for days.


01:14:06:04 DANIEL: Something seems to be jamming all the signals I'm picking up. I mean,

there's people out there, but nothing clear enough for me to respond to.

01:14:13:03 LEDA: But you think your friends will be able to hear you?

01:14:15:16 DANIEL: Uh, yeah, it's kind of a timing thing. You see, if the stargate's open,

they'll be able to pick up my signal...if your gate isn't buried in rubble or

worse.

01:14:24:28 LEDA: Well, while you're waiting to be rescued, you could use some fresh air...if

you think you're up to it.

01:14:39:05 LEDA: How can you be sure Soren and his followers aren't right? How can you

know for certain that the gods they worship aren't...

01:14:45:12 DANIEL: Benevolent? Because I've met more than a few of them. Trust me,

they're the opposite, and they're definitely not gods.

01:14:53:02 LEDA: Then what are they?

01:14:54:28 DANIEL: The short form? They're a parasitical alien race that steals advanced

technology, and rules via fear and intimidation, and has a penchant for

melodrama. Trust me, if Soren ever actually met one, he'd be singing a

different tune.

01:15:11:22 LEDA: But you said you've fought them and won?


01:15:15:03 DANIEL: Yeah, well, we got lucky a few times, that's all.

01:15:18:25 LEDA: But there's hope, isn't there?

01:15:24:00 LEDA (CONT’D): You think what happened was your fault, don't you? From what

you've told me, it was better that your people activated The Great Ring

than the Goa'uld.

01:15:31:16 DANIEL: You think so? 'Cause right now, I'm not so sure.

01:15:34:10 LEDA: You couldn't have known what was going to happen. When the fighting

began, you could have gone back to your planet, but you chose to stay...

01:15:41:00 DANIEL: Yeah.

01:15:42:00 LEDA: To try and help us.

01:15:43:01 DANIEL: For all the good it did.

01:15:44:01 LEDA: Daniel...

01:15:45:02 LEDA (CONT’D O/S): There has been distrust between our country and

Caledonia for generations.

01:15:49:09 LEDA (CONT’D): It was only a matter of time before something set it off.

01:15:52:14 LEDA (CONT’D O/S): We did this to ourselves. And since you've come here…


01:15:57:29 LEDA (CONT’D): I've begun to think we may have a chance to undo it. To rebuild.

01:16:05:26 TECHNICIAN (INTO RADIO): This is Stargate Command calling Dr. Jackson. Do

you read me?


01:16:10:29 CARTER: Can you boost the signal?

01:16:13:00 TECHNICIAN: We're at maximum gain, Colonel.

01:16:15:20 TECHNICIAN (INTO RADIO): This is Stargate Command calling Daniel Jackson.

Do you copy?

01:16:19:20 O’NEILL: Anything?

01:16:20:24 CARTER: Not yet, sir. We're picking up a lot of transmissions from the planet, but

none of them are clear enough to tell if they're from Daniel. We think both

sides may have employed radio jamming measures just prior to the

attack, meaning any signals coming from outside the command bunker

are a mess. We're working on it.

01:16:37:02 O’NEILL: Anything from SG-9 yet?

01:16:38:25 CARTER: Yeah, they just reported in. Sounds like the negotiations are going

nowhere, sir.


01:16:43:02 CARTER (CONT’D O/S): Soren is still refusing to allow us to send any teams to

look for Daniel.

01:16:46:27 CARTER (CONT’D): He said our presence on the planet would only cause more

panic and fear.

01:16:51:22 O’NEILL: Well, okay. It sounds like I should meet these people myself.

01:17:19:20 DANIEL: Kane.

01:17:21:13 KANE: Dr. Jackson.

01:17:24:18 KANE (V/O): We got as close to what was left of the capital as we could.

01:17:28:18 KANE (CONT’D): Soren has troops conducting full sweeps of the region,

searching for survivors. Any suspected of remaining loyal to the old

government are executed on the spot.

01:17:38:05 LEDA: Haven't enough people died?

01:17:39:23 DANIEL: I don't think that matters to him. This is about continuing the chaos, not

peace.

01:17:44:07 KANE: You're right. People are too afraid to fight back. Most of them have already

given up hope. It's just a matter of time before they pledge their loyalty to

Soren.


01:17:56:18 DANIEL: Kane, what in the hell happened that night? I--I remember being in the

bunker, and then waking up here.

01:18:04:29 KANE: It was the end.

01:18:15:28 KANE: I'm sorry, Dr. Jackson. You really can't be in here right now.

01:18:20:18 DANIEL: Kane, what's going on? I heard something about the stargate being

moved.

01:18:22:25 KANE: Rebels have seized control of all of Rand's major cities, including sections

of the capital itself. We had the stargate moved into…

01:18:29:07 KANE (CONT’D O/S): the bunker complex for security purposes.

01:18:32:01 DANIEL: What are the Caledonians doing?

01:18:34:22 KANE: Their missile systems are now fully deployed and primed. As a result,

we've done the same. It might be best if you returned to your planet now.

01:18:48:20 RADIO MAN: Commander.

01:18:49:11 RADIO MAN (CONT’D O/S): Minister Treydan for you on a coded frequency.

01:18:56:19 COMMANDER GARETH: Put him through.


01:19:01:20 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO): Commander Gareth. We have been

monitoring the situation in your country, and we are most concerned.

01:19:06:25 COMMANDER GARETH (INTO RADIO): I understand, Minister, however, rest

assured we are close to reclaiming vital areas--

01:19:13:04 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO INTERUPTING): Now is not the time

for rhetoric, Commander. Our reports indicate large elements of your

military are on the brink of mutiny. Your civil unrest has become a civil

war. Should any of your weapons systems fall into the wrong hands, no

one in my country would be safe.

01:19:29:09 COMMANDER GARETH (INTO RADIO): That will not happen, I can promise you.

01:19:31:20 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO): Just as you promised our scientists

full access to the stargate? First, you hide information about the alien

device, and now you deny your country has slipped into chaos?

01:19:41:21 COMMANDER GARETH (INTO RADIO): We respected the guidelines of our

treaty to the letter.

01:19:44:27 COMMANDER GARETH (CONT’D O/S INTO RADIO): Our report to you on the

stargate outlined everything we know--

01:19:48:02 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO INTERUPTING): Except what you

deemed advantageous to your national security--


01:19:52:12 COMMANDER GARETH (INTO RADIO): One moment, Minister.

01:19:56:27 KANE: Rebel forces just detonated a large explosive device near one of our

missile deployment facilities. As of this moment, we understand the

facility to be compromised.

01:20:18:07 COMMANDER GARETH (INTO RADIO): Minister, forgive me. I must cut our

conversation short.

01:20:21:11 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO): Commander, my intelligence advisors

have just informed me of a massive explosion near one of your missile

facilities. Is this true?

01:20:29:19 COMMANDER GARETH (INTO RADIO): We are still gathering information. We

will contain the situation--

01:20:32:27 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO INTERUPTING): The time for

containment is long past, Commander. We cannot allow your missile

facilities to fall into Soren's hands.

01:20:38:16 COMMANDER GARETH (INTO RADIO): Treydan, give us time. This need not

escalate.

01:20:42:26 MINISTER TREYDAN (V/O OVER RADIO): We are targeting your missile sites

only. If you do not wish a full-scale war, you will not retaliate.

01:20:48:18 COMMANDER GARETH (INTO RADIO): Treydan...


01:20:49:18 RADIO MAN: Commander, we've detected multiple launch signals from Caledonia

positions.

01:20:53:02 (ALARM SOUNDING)

ACT THREE

01:21:28:23 KANE: It's possible the destruction could have been contained if Soren's forces

hadn’t gained control of one of our missile sites and launched a counter-

attack on Caledonia. After that, it devolved into a full-scale war. Within a

matter of days, all our cities were leveled.

01:21:43:00 KANE (CONT’D): From what we can tell, only a fraction of our population has

survived, existing mainly in outlying areas. As for the Caledonians, I've

heard rumors they're trying to rebuild what they can. It won't be much.

They may have struck first, but our missile systems were much more

accurate than theirs.

01:21:58:28 DANIEL: And Soren?

01:22:00:05 KANE: He used the chaos to make his move on the bunker.

01:22:04:07 DANIEL: Then how did you save me?

01:22:07:27 KANE: Actually, from what I understand, it was you who saved me.


01:22:16:27 COMMANDER GARETH: Kane.

01:22:23:00 DANIEL: This is insane.


01:22:24:00 KANE: Soren's forces are moving in on this facility. I can get you to the stargate,

but we have to go now.

01:22:43:00 (EXPLOSION)

01:22:52:06 (GUNFIRE)

01:23:11:24 KANE (O/S): This way!

01:23:19:06 KANE: Here, through that door.

01:23:48:28 DANIEL: Get down!

01:23:57:03 KANE: Loyalist soldiers found us first and got us out of the city. Your wounds were

much worse than mine. Bringing you here was the only option.

01:24:06:00 DANIEL: What happened to Commander Gareth?

01:24:09:10 KANE: He was executed shortly after the bunker fell.

01:24:13:17 KANE (CONT’D): Since he took power, Soren has set up a provisional

government, not that there's much of Rand left to govern. However, we

do know he does control whatever's left of the bunker complex...

01:24:25:20 KANE (CONT’D): including the stargate.

01:24:31:00 KANE (CONT’D): I'm sorry, Dr. Jackson.



01:24:40:08 O’NEILL: Howdy, fellas. Welcome to Earth.

01:24:45:02 SOREN: General O'Neill, it is an honor. I greet you in the name of our great

nation, Avidan.

01:24:52:19 CARTER: You changed the name?

01:24:54:20 SOREN: "Avidan" speaks more to our peoples' beliefs.

01:24:57:25 TEAL’C: It is from an ancient Goa'uld dialect. It means "the gods are just."

01:25:09:08 O’NEILL: Good choice.

01:25:17:10 DANIEL (V/O): So you're saying…

01:25:18:13 DANIEL (CONT’D): that Soren is still using the bunker as a command center.

01:25:21:25 KANE: Damage in the city would be too severe.

01:25:25:00 DANIEL: Then he hasn't totally consolidated his power yet, has he?

01:25:29:21 DANIEL (CONT’D): I'm saying that if we could somehow retake the bunker, we

would effectively overthrow Soren.


01:25:33:12 KANE: The bunker's heavily fortified, and I have only a dozen men under my

command. It would be suicide.

01:25:38:06 DANIEL: No. Not if we had help. You see, if I could reach my friends on Earth…

01:25:41:27 DANIEL (CONT’D O/S): we could regain control of the gate.

01:25:43:05 KANE: If you could reach them.

01:25:46:10 KANE (CONT’D O/S): I know that you've been trying to make radio contact with

your planet since you regained consciousness…

01:25:50:07 KANE (CONT’D): without success. I understand your wish to return to your world,

but it simply isn't possible.
