StarCenter GEORouting – “What is it?”

This feature provides a high degree of flexibility in that administrators can create system entries that will deliver a match to a partial or full 10-digit number, routing those calls to a specific Destination as defined (different call treatment for specific callers). This feature is commonly referred to as Geographic routing (also called georouting, position-based routing, or area based routing)

The system can be configured to use a mix of NPA (Area Code – Numbering Plan Areas), NPA / NXX (Area Code / Exchange (CO)) or the full 10-digit number. For example 941, 941234, 9412340001

StarCenter GEORouting – “NANP Explained”

North American Numbering Plan

The North American Numbering Plan (NANP) governs the management of telephone numbers for the Public Switched Telephone Networks in North America (Canada, USA, Caribbean, and territories) within the international country code prefix '+1'.

North American phone numbers are in the format (where N is any digit from 2-9, and X from 0-9):

NPA-NXX-XXXX

NPA identifies the 3-digit Numbering Plan Area (Area Code)NXX identifies the Central Office (aka. Exchange) within the NPAXXXX identifies the Station within the NXX

(Note) AT&T developed the North American Numbering Plan in 1947 to simplify and facilitate direct dialing of long distance calls. Implementation of the plan began in 1951
