India, Austria May Sign Pact for Coastal Surveillance PRIME MINISTER HARPER

ANNOUNCES JUDITH GUICHON AS LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR OF

BRITISH COLUMBIA

THE MAGIC OF DIVERSITY“Difference is of the essence of humanity. Difference is an accident of birth and it should therefore never be the source of hatred or conflict. The answer to difference is to respect it. Therein lies a most fundamental principle of peace: respect for diversity”.

-John Hume

Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced the appointment of Judith Guichon as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia.

Amid rising instances of piracy, India and Austria are likely to sign an agreement to explore opportunities for collaborations across various segments, including coastal surveillance and inland water transport.“The Shipping Minister and the Austrian government are likely to sign a pact for exploring collaboration opportunities in the sector,” a source close to

India can Recover Faster than China: RBIIndia can recover from global economic slowdown faster than China as the economy is driven by domestic consumption, but the country needs to “get its act together” for this to happen, Reserve Bank Deputy Governor Anand Sinha said.Speaking to PTI, Sinha also said “confidence issues like the general pessimism and not-so-

good-feel factor also affected the economy”.“Both economies (India and China) are affected by the global economic slowdown but India being a domestic consumption driven economy could recover faster,” he said.“But for that we have to get our act together. Being dependent on domestic economy, we

would be less affected by export sector performance. So, that could be our strength. But we have to get our act together and whatever weaknesses we have to get around them,” he said responding to a question. When asked what should be done by India to arrest the slide in growth, he said, “We have to get hold of inflation. If

we get hold of it, growth will have better prospect. Once growth takes off things would be better.Retail inflation in India is in double digits at 10.03 percent. RBI had been repeatedly saying that focus of its monetary policy is on controlling inflation.“We must realise that even if we put our domestic situation on sound footing, what happens in the rest of the world, we cannot be totally immune to that. So you will not have the same growth rate as we would have had if the world economy is in good shape.”Sinha also said “not so good feel factor”, besides the global economic slowdown, for the current domestic situation.“One reason is global economic slowdown. That has affected us is the trade channel. We are not export dependent but exports suffered due to global economic crisis. Apart from trade issues, confidence issues like the general pessimism and not so good feel factor also affected the economy,” he said apparently referring to criticism about policy paralysis.“Sentiments are very important when it comes to taking business decision,” he said.India’s problem is partly due to financial markets, Sinha said.“We are globalised to some extent. There are also we are affected. It affects the equity markets and foreign exchange rate,” he said.Essentially the problem in India came due to inflation, he said. “We are a supply constrained economy. Because of that inflation has risen,

the development said.Doris Bures, Austrian Minister of Transport, Innovation and Technology is likely to sign the agreement tomorrow. The areas which are likely to be the focus would be waterway management systems for control and monitoring of waterways, river information services and inland waterways management, among others. The initial agreement may also

look at river water management, regulatory aspects of inland water transport.“The two countries are also likely to deliberate upon sharing of dredging technology,” the source added.Coastal surveillance is also likely to be discussed during the talks. This comes in the wake of various incidents of piracy across the Gulf of Aden, between Somalia and Yemen.

The government is mulling deploying armed CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) guards on-board Indian merchant vessels in order to thwart any piracy attempt.

essentially the food inflation. That is a supply side issue,” he said. The other factor was that India has been affected by loose monitory policy being followed by various countries to tide over the crisis which in turn led to increase in commodity prices, he said. Also rising oil prices affected the economy. India is heavily dependent on oil which also

adds to inflation, he said adding that the prices keep going and up down.RBI’s half yearly monetary policy review is expected on October 30.Sinha is in Beijing to take part in the Regional Policy Forum on Financial Stability and Macro-prudential Supervision, where he spoke on Mitigating Procyclicality in Banking and Bank Regulation.

“Mrs. Guichon has dedicated herself to her community, province and country,” said the Prime Minister. “She is a leader in keeping British Columbia’s agriculture and cattle industries environmentally sound and she has worked hard to promote and protect the ranchers of British Columbia.” Mrs. Guichon has had a successful career in ranching and introduced the Holistic Management method to ranchers in British Columbia. She is the owner and operator of Gerard Guichon Ranch Limited in theNicola Valley where

she resides with two of her four children. Mrs. Guichon has worked with several organizations including the Fraser Basin Council of B.C., the Grasslands Conservation

Council of B.C. and recently completed her two-year term as the president of the British Columbia Cattlemen’s Association.Lieutenant Governors are appointed by His Excellency the Governor General on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. They serve five-year terms, during which they act as their provinces’ vice-regal representatives.Prime Minister Harper also took the opportunity to thank the Honourable Steven L. Point for his dedicated service as Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia, which began in October 2007.

Kate Middleton Bottomless Photos: More to Come? The release of Kate Middleton nude photos in Scandinavia was the latest chapter of the recent royal scandal, but will it be the last we hear of the bottomless and topless pics? For celebrity gossip publications, the controversial pictures are the gift that keeps on giving. For the royal family, it’s starting to look like a nightmare that will never end.A blogger for the The Telegraph (UK) reports, “Newspaper pictures editors tell me there are as many as 270 pictures being hawked around.” So far, we’ve seen 24.The photos “feature both the Duchess and Prince William naked” and the palace fears that “the pictures are stills from a video.” In which case ... look out.A video could be even more cringe-worthy for obvious reasons (although we doubt it’s a sex tape), but it’s the inclusion of William himself that could pour gasoline on this fire.Already fiercely protective of Kate Middleton because of his mother Princess Diana’s endless battles with paparazzi, she’s surely pretty broken up about this as is.When and if he’s a victim of it

as well? The gloves, as well as Kate’s bikini, could really be

coming off then.

Karan Johar’s rapid fire for Sridevi and Madhuri! With two Indian divas Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit on the same stage for the first time ever in the history of Indian television, filmmaker Karan Johar decided to turn anchor and quiz the two ladies in his rapid fire round on a dance reality show. KJo asked them the following questions.Which is your favourite genre??Sridevi: ComedyShe also said a few lines from her hit comedy film, Chalbaaz, “Jaani yeh chaku hai, lag jaye toh khoon nikalta hai.” Karan said it was a hysterical scene that had to be recreated.Madhuri: RomanceTo this, Karan said, “Haan, romance toh tumhe sab mein daalna hai, aakhir Dil to Paagal Hai.”Which co-star was the most difficult to dance with? Sanjay Dutt, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff or Sunny Deol?

Madhuri is back with a Lavani performance!Actor Madhuri Dixit will be seen doing Lavani, a traditional Maharashtrian folk dance, after almost a decade, in the grand finale of dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa.

In the episode that airs tonight, Madhuri will be seen adorning a pink Maharashtrian navari with a gold nathhand a conspicuously big bindi on her forehead. The actor will perform on three lively songs including Main Kolhapur

se aayi hu, Apsara Aali and Hichki.Enamoured by the way Madhuri danced every move while shooting for this Lavani performance, everyone

including choreographer Harshal seemed to be in awe of her elegance and finesse. And, the actor’s husband Dr Sriram Nene was all by her side through the rehearsals. In the past, Madhuri has done Lavani acts twice — in the 1990

film Sailaab’s song Humko Aajkal Hai, and the popular number, Main Kolhapur Se Aayi Hoon in Anjaam (1994).After Madhuri’s Lavani performance, the dance form had more or less disappeared from Bollywood, only to make a comeback in Karan Johar’s Agneepath remake with Katrina Kaif’s Chikni Chameli act. Later it was seen in Vidya Balan’s song Mala Jau De in Ferrari Ki Sawaari and Chitrangda Singh’s Kaafirana in Joker. Actor Rani Mukherji will be seen doing it in her soon-to- release film, Aiyyaa.

Sridevi: “Anil ji is family, so I don’t think he will mind if I take his name”.Madhuri: “I think I will have to say Jackie, not because he

couldn’t dance, but because I couldn’t look in his eyes… He made me blush whenever I tried. Even when we were shooting Ram Lakhan, and

I would sing, ‘Oh Ram ji’, I would blush.”Who’s the better dancer? Hema or Rekha?Sridevi: I think Madhuri ji.Madhuri: “We will answer your question if you answer ours… Rani or Kajol? Who’s your favourite?” Karan

replied, “You caught me, I can’t answer this, I would have to say Kareena.”Out of the 3 Khans, Aamir, SRK and Salman, who is the better dancer?Sridevi: ‘Apne three Student of The Year ke actors mein who’s the better dancer?’

Madhuri: “None of them are trained dancers. Each have their own characteristics that help them. For Amir, it’s his sheer hard work. For SRK, it’s his style and Salman has his own masti that helps him look good. All are charismatic in their own ways.

Ritu Kumar creates wedding outfit for Kareena Kapoor! It’s been widely reported that for her wedding to Saif Ali Khan, actor Kareena Kapoor will wear his mother Sharmila Tagore’s wedding outfit. The original set — consisting of a traditional kurta, dupatta and farshi paijama — was gifted to Tagore by her mother-in-law, Begum Sajida Sultan of Bhopal, who wore it at her wedding in 1939.“Kareena will be wearing the original dupatta, while the kurta and farshi paijama are being recreated for her,” reveals designer Ritu Kumar who has been given the task of readying Kareena’s bridal outfit. “The original dupatta was in good condition, but the fabric was a little old and we had to re-line it. The whole process took us about four to six months. The new pieces also had to be made exactly like the older ones, with intricate embroidery. It’s a time consuming process and requires highly skilled labour.”Master craftsmen from Bengal were put to work on the bridal outfit. “It’s made with gold Benaras fabric, with a dupatta of rust and gold tissue, contrasted with green satin gota at the hem. The knee-length kurta has a decorative zardozi border,” she says. A

few older craftspeople, who understood the stitches and their use on three-dimensional surfaces, were put to work on the clothes. The designer has also worked on outfits for Saif’s sisters Soha

and Saba. “For Soha, I’ve made an outfit in peach, and one in white with a red paijama. Saba will wear one in gold, and one in white and metallic shades,” she reveals.

My Hindi film career complete after working with Yash Chopra: RahmanOscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman has teamed up with Yash Chopra for the first time for the veteran filmmaker’s much-talked about directorial venture Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The music maestro says with the project his Hindi film career is complete. “Yashji saw one of my concerts in London. Wehad invited him and I think may be he felt that I should be in his film and was kind enough to call me. So it was a great honour for me because I had not worked with him. My whole Hindi film career is now complete,” the 46-year-old said here Thursday at the announcement of Royal Stag Mega Music event.“We had a very good experience so far. He seemed very happy and I hope the people feel the same,” he added.Talking about the kind of music done for the film, Rahman said: “It’s a combination. They wanted to do my kind of songs at the same time they wanted the old charm and soul of music that Indian audience would love and which I wanted to do for a long time.”“We did in Taal and Swades and it’s such a great thing to

come together to do this,” he added. The music of Jab Tak Hai Jaan is yet to be released but the

title poem penned by Gulzar is already creating waves. The film hits theatres Nov 13.

Hrithik Roshan to romance Katrina Kaif!Actor Hrithik Roshan will be seen romancing Katrina Kaif once again in the Hindi remake of the Hollywood film Knight and Day. My best is yet to come: SrideviMore than 265 films in her oeuvre but Sridevi, the reigning queen of the 1980s and 1990s who is back after a 15-year gap with English Vinglish, says she is yet to deliver her best. The Hawa Hawaii girl, who did scores of films in the south before making her mark in Bollywood withcritically acclaimed portrayals in diverse films such as Sadma and Lamhe, has won four Filmfare awards - Hindi movies Chaalbaaz and Lamhe, Tamil film Meendum Kokila and Telugu venture Kshana Kshanam. But she’s not completely satisfied.“There is a lot more to do,” said the 49-year-old actress.“I have not done much as an actor. There is no end for an artist and my best is yet to come. There are more creative characters to play which has no limits,” she added. She is ready for another stint as the lead in Gauri Shinde’s directorial debut English Vinglish, releasing Oct 5, playing an Indian housewife in the US struggling to overcome the language barrier and identity issues.Acting is her forte but direction is a complete no, says the actress who is married to director-producer Boney Kapoor. The couple has two daughters, one 15 and the other 12 years old.“Direction and all is not my cup of tea. It’s not an easy job,” she said, adding that she is familiar with production, thanks to her husband, but doesn’t understand the box-office number game.“I believe in good films and bad films. Box-office business and all is my husband’s section. Sometimes I really get surprised when good films don’t do well... Sometimes you are really shocked when an average film does very well,” she said. A good script helps a film connect with the audiences, asserts the actress.

“It’s the script that should appeal. Script is the hero. Of course, there is a different category now like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan - their aura itself works for them. Besides that, each picture should have a strong script,” she said. She may be returning to the arclights after 15 years but doesn’t want to tag it a comeback movie.“I never felt I was out of this industry. I don’t term it as my comeback. Even when I used to go out, my fans used to always ask me, ‘When will

we see you?’ I am so glad and thankful to my fans that I was always there in their hearts and they never forgot me.”The actress belies her age and looks absolutely fit. The secret, she says, is just being happy.“Love gives me the energy. There is no secret; whatever you are inside that will reflect on your face. Just be happy and positive. Every morning just look for the basic things. You have to be happy from within and enjoy. Exercise, yoga, and systematic life definitely helps you, but basically you have to be happy.”

Aamir Khan, who is currently busy shooting for Yash Raj Films’ Dhoom:3 in Chicago, requested UTV Motion Pictures to arrange a special screening of Anurag Basu’s Barfi! for his crew and himself.A source close to the production house reveals, “A special screening of the Ranbir Kapoor film was organised in Chicago, USA. Aamir and some of the members of the cast of Dhoom:3 watched the film together.”The 3 Idiots (2009) actor and UTV have always shared a great relationship, so when Aamir requested a screening, the makers readily agreed to arrange it in Chicago. Aamir, it seems, was very keen to watch the film since he wasn’t in India around the time of Barfi!’s release. The source further adds that the film, which has been selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars for the award ceremony to be held in 2013, left Aamir

overwhelmed and teary-eyed.“Aamir thoroughly enjoyed the film. He had tears in his eyes by the end of it. Right from the direction to the performances,

he seemed to love every bit of the movie. Even the others who watched it had only good things to say about it,” the source adds.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Barfi! makes Aamir cry!

Akshay Kumar’s daughter named after Rajesh KhannaActor Akshay Kumar has paid a special tribute to his late father-in-law, veteran actor Rajesh Khanna, by naming his newborn daughter, Nitara Khanna Bhatia. While ‘Bhatiya’ is Akshay’s last name, ‘Khanna’ has been included to pay respect to Rajesh Khanna, who passed away in July this year.Twinkle Khanna gave birth to a daughter on September 25. The former actress delivered at Breach Candy Hospital in South Bombay reportedly.“We are blessed with a lovely baby girl who looks just like her mother and grandmother. I have no words to express my happiness. I would like to thank

everyone for their blessings and best wishes,” Akshay Kumar said in a statement.According to reports, it was a normal delivery and both mother and daughter are doing fine.

Where were you born and raised?Technically born in New Delhi, but practically Canada since my family migrated here when I was 9 months old. Raised in the Greater Toronto Area! How do you think the environment you were in and your surroundings shaped for what you do now?My environment growing up has been incredibly diverse. I grew up in a musical family which really sparked my interest in pursuing singing. It’s all thanks to my father for passing on the musical genes, and encouraging me to show it. My parents have been a huge source of support and I’m lucky in that way. Also, growing up in Canada I’ve been exposed to a lot of different cultures and styles of music. It has inspired me to try out different genres and learn from styles like Opera to R&B to Chutney/Soca to European folk. I love the multicultural environment that I have been exposed to since a young age

and I think it has had a great influence on me and my music. What led you to realize that you wanted to be involved with music and wanted to be singers and musicians?Watching Bollywood movies as a child, I initially wanted to be an actress, as I’m sure most of us did at some point in our lives! The glamour, the grandeur of the sets, the music and dance - I always knew I wanted to learn more about it. I actually started dancing as a child before I started singing. Then once I discovered my singing talent, I focused on it and decided I wanted to become a playback singer. I wanted to be the voice behind Aishwaria Rai and Rani Mukherjee, etc. Of course since then my dreams have evolved, but throughout my education singing has remained my undying passion. There is so much more to the world of music than playback singing and I strive to explore as much as I can and see where it takes me! How do you think you are impacting the south asian community around the world with your talent and art?As an NRI, I hope my YouTube success has inspired others to realize that there are no

bounds to expressing yourself these days. With the help of the internet, anything is possible. Being a hindi singer and not ever really having lived in India, I never would have thought that the likes of Sonu Nigam, Amitabh Bachhan, and Salim Merchant would ever hear my voice, but thanks to media outlets like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, my voice has reached people worldwide. I just keep doing what I love

and working at it, and you honestly never know what can happen. What are you currently working on? What do you have in mind for the near future?Other than performing a whole lot, I am working on some collaborations and originals as well in the studio. I have a couple more covers in the works as well... but rest I guess I should leave as a surprise!

Aishwarya Rai to return with Mani Ratnam’s

Rebecca? After opting out of Madhur Bhadarkar’s Heroine due to her pregnancy, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan will reportedly be starring in Mani Ratnam’s next. The film will be an adaptation of Daphne Du Maurier’s 1938 novel Rebecca.“Ash and Ratnam go back a long way. Her cinematic debut, Iruvar

in 1997 was directed by him. They worked again ten years later in Guru. The same year she got married. They again worked in 2010 in Raavan. Whenever Ratnam has offered Ash a role or a script, she has always respected it. This time too, it was the same,” a source told Mumbai Mirror.“Rebecca, the novel is about a newly married woman who is constantly compared to the first wife of her husband by the housekeeper. While she feels belittled by the shadow of the deceased lady of the house, she later realises that her husband was never in love earlier. Ratnam is currently adapting the entire novel into a more contemporary Indian setup,” the tabloid quoted the source as saying.

Jab Tak Hai Jaan will be my last film: Yash ChopraJab Tak Hai Jaan will be Yash Chopra’s final film as director, Bollywood’s ‘king of romance’ announced on Thursday.Chopra’s disclosure, made at an event marking his 80th birthday with actor Shah Rukh Khan by his side, took the Indian film industry by surprise. “I think I’ve had enough, Shah Rukh,” Chopra replied when Khan asked him about his next project.“I have always lived according to what my heart tells me,” he said. “I won’t make any film after Jab Tak Hai Jaan.”Regarded as the country’s king of celluloid romance, Chopra has also proved his mettle with intensely emotional and tragic movies, many of which went on to become box-office blockbusters.Born in 1932 in Lahore, now in Pakistan, the film-maker was favoured by leading Indian actors with his movies seen as a sure-fire way to become a hit with audiences. On Thursday, Chopra reminisced about a Bollywood career that spanned five decades, narrating how he came to Mumbai with Rs. 200 in his pocket, hoping to make it as a film director.

Indians stuck with fair skin, light eyes: Sameera Reddy

Since then, Chopra has made some of Indian cinema’s most memorable films such as Deewar, Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila and Chandni. His flamboyant style of film-making, movies filmed in exotic locales and mellifluous music became a hallmark, endearing him to filmgoers.Chiffon sarees and the Swiss Alps are so synonymous with Chopra’s style of film-making that Switzerland Tourism even offered visitors a guided tour of the places where the director filmed some of his most famous songs and scenes. Riding on his success, Chopra established Yash Raj Films, one of Bollywood’s biggest

production houses, churning out at least three movies a year. In November, the film studio announced its foray into Hollywood, signing on actors such as Nicole Kidman and Jason Bateman for its overseas productions. Chopra also produced Indian cinema’s longest-running blockbuster, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995), which marked the debut of his son Aditya as director.“I have never made romantic films. I have made films on human relations, and humans are complicated people,” he said. Jab Tak Hai Jaan, with Chopra at the helm for the last time, opens in cinemas in November, eight years after

his last project Veer-Zaara, a passionate tale of love across borders. The film features Shah Rukh Khan, one of Bollywood’s biggest stars, along with Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.“I am so happy with the film,” Chopra said. “You always eat the tastiest dish at the end of your meal, that is how it is.”Khan, who starred in four of Chopra’s films, said he was both surprised and saddened by his decision to stop directing movies.“I always tell everyone that if you do one film in your life, it should be a Yash Chopra film,” Khan said.

Dusky actress Sameera Reddy is upset at the cliched idea of beauty in the country and feels it is time people moved away from the mindset that only people with fair skin and light eyes are beautiful.

“Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and, unfortunately, in India we are pretty much stuck with fair skin, light eyes, straight hair,” the 29-year-old said here.Describing a typical Indian woman, Sameera said: “I think beauty is the actual Indian woman – warm skin, saanvli (dusky), dark eyes and just the Indian woman. Also, little bit not-size-zero, a little jhatak-matak (flashy) that for me is Indian beauty.”Asked which actress, according to her, lights up the big screen, she said: “Madhuri Dixit for me. When she smiles, there is nobody who can match her. Kajol and I think from the newer lot Kareena (Kapoor), she definitely has that X factor.”Sameera was last seen in “Tezz” and will next be seen in a cameo in Prakash Jha’s “Chakravyuh”.

Australia match impacted our chances badly: MS Dhoni

Time to think about the future of some senior players in T20s

Yuvraj back in top-20, Raina best-placed Indian at number 3The fit-again Yuvraj Singh on Thursday broke into the top-20 while Suresh Raina got a major confidence booster ahead of the World T20 in Sri Lanka, emerging as the highest-placed Indian batsmen at number three, in the latest ICC player rankings for the shortest format.Apart from Raina, no other Indian featured in the top-10 chart for batsmen, which is being headed by New Zealand’s Brendon McCullum, followed by big-hitting West Indian Chris Gayle.Recovering from a rare germ cell cancer, Yuvraj re-entered the list in the 15th spot, after marking his return with 34 against New Zealand in Chennai on Tuesday. There was no Indian in the top-20 bowling chart as well -- the list headed by Pakistan off-spinner Saeed Ajmal and followed by England’s Graeme Swann and Johan Botha of South Africa.Among all-rounders, Australia’s Shane Watson held the number-one rank with his highest-ever rating of 475, achieved in the series against Pakistan.

Meanwhile, England head into the World T20 as the number-one ranked team on the ICC T20 Championship table.England levelled the three-

match series against South Africa 1-1 with a win in the third and final match to reclaim the top spot. South Africa trialled England by just one rating point.Pakistan’s 2-1 series win over Australia has ensured that they retain the pre-series position of sixth, while George Bailey’s team continued to be ninth in the rankings.India have slipped to seventh

from fourth position after the loss to New Zealand in the only game possible in the T20 two-match series, while Ross Taylor’s side was ranked fifth.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has said that the heavy defeat against Australia in their first Super Eights game had a telling impact in his team’s ouster from the ICC World T20 even though he termed the side’s performance as “satisfactory”.“It was a satisfactory performance. If we talk about the tournament, the match that we lost (versus Australia) impacted us badly. The margin of defeat was a big one. Today after the first match, the equation was such that we wanted to field first and then chase down whatever target within 15-16 overs,” Dhoni told the reporters at the post-match media conference.“It becomes very difficult to make a strategy when you bat first. In any case defending 120 was a tough ask,” he said after India defeated South Africa by one-run in their last Super Eights game last night but still failed to qualify for the semi-finals.Dhoni was curt in his reply when asked whether too many changes in the batting order had an effect on the team’s performance.“No, I don’t think so,” he replied. The skipper admitted that on flat tracks, his bowlers have found it difficult to deliver and that’s been the reason for the team’s repeated poor show in the last three editions of World T20.“If one looks at the 2007 edition, we were playing in Durban which helped our seamers. Whatever total we put on, they were able to defend

that. But when there is nothing in the wicket, they find it very difficult. That is the reason why I prefer a turning track or seaming track rather than flat tracks,” Dhoni said. When the inevitable question of overhaul in the team and dropping a few seniors -- Zaheer Khan and Virender Sehwag -- was raised, Dhoni said: “This question is always asked when we don’t do well. When we lost in Australia and England, the similar question was asked. Let’s get real.“We performed well in the tournament and we lost just one match. We don’t have bowlers who bowl 140 kmph plus,” Dhoni said. The captain again defended his decision to come down the order in the batting line-up.“Apart from Virender Sehwag, there are only two players who

can hit right from the start. They are myself and Suresh Raina. Agreed that if we come up the order we can make an impact but if we get out by the 13th over, will the other batsmen who need a few balls to set be able to hit in the same manner.“Also for the sake of this team, Virat Kohli needs to bat at No 3. The kind of form that he is in, we can’t let him face a few balls in the end,” Dhoni said.“Our logic is simple. If we lose too many wickets in the powerplay overs, then Rohit goes in otherwise Yuvraj goes in and tries to play as many overs as possible,” he added.Dhoni once again defended Rohit Sharma, who has now played over 120 internationals across two formats but has failed to perform consistently with the bat.

After failing to make it to the semifinals of the ICC World Twenty20 for the third time in a row, some serious introspection is required by the BCCI as far as identifying right players for the shortest format of the game is concerned. With the team failing to make an impact again, the new selection committee under the chairmanship of Sandeep Patil will have to think seriously whether they want a complete overhaul of the T20 side or focus on easing out some of the senior players from this particular squad. If one tries to dissect the team’s dismal Twenty20 campaign, the repeated failures of two senior most cricketers -- Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan -- has dented India’s chances to a large extent. The mercurial opener played three matches in the tournament, scoring just 54 runs at an average of 18. He was rested for the England game and then dropped for the Australia game which was criticised by a lot of former players like Ravi Shastri and Aravinda de’Silva. However, Sehwag never showed intent during the other three innings which raised

serious questions as to whether he fits into this T20 side any more.If someone of Sehwag’s talent is in the side, one expects him to play atleast till the 15th over and take the match away from the opposition, just like Chris Gayle does it for the West Indies.A more than capable off-spinner, it’s also baffling to see why he doesn’t bowl more often. Is it Dhoni’s lack of faith in his bowling abilities or his troubled shoulder which had undergone surgery? In both cases then, his place in the team will come under increasing scrutiny. The next curious case is Zaheer Khan. The 33-year-old pacer has manfully shouldered the

burden of being the spearhead of the Indian attack for past few years but there are signs that his body is not ready to take rigours of all three formats. If India’s campaign went wary in the island nation, it’s because Zaheer failed to deliver during the opening overs. An economy rate of over seven meant that his team didn’t get the momentum their way while bowling. Not to forget Zaheer’s poor fielding. Age has slowed him down considerably and he looked a complete liability in the field. Whenever he chased the balls, the batsmen already had two runs in their mind. In T20s, where each run saved is each run scored, it is difficult to hide someone like Zaheer.

MOVIE TALK

Complaint against Ajay Devgn for defaming Sikhs in Son of Sardar

Kahaani 2 shooting to start in 2013Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh will start shooting for the sequel to his successful thriller Kahaani next year with Vidya Balan in the lead role. Ghosh said “The film will definitely go on the floors by next year... The film is in its scripting stage. I have just started writing it so we have a long way to go.”The 46-year-old said all the characters will be the same in the sequel and added: “Of course, we will have Vidya Balan in the film and rest of the characters will also be the same.”The original was filmed in Kolkata, but the location for Kahaani 2 has not been finalised yet.“Location has not been decided as such but quite a bit of the film will be shot in Kolkata for sure. We are taking forward the same characters so let’s see how it shapes up,” said the director.Released March 9, Ghosh hit the bull’s eye with Kahaani. Made on a budget of Rs.8 crore, the film reportedly grossed about Rs.104 crore worldwide within 50 days of its release.

A complaint has been filed in a court here against Bollywood actor-producer Ajay Devgn for allegedly maligning and defaming Sikhs in his upcoming film Son of Sardar. The complaint, filed by one Ravinder Singh who claims to be a member of a Sikh organisation Sikhi Sidak, seeks action against Devgn and the film’s director Ashwini Dhir for hurting religious sentiments of the Sikh community and defaming it.Singh told the court that the trailers of the movie, which is scheduled for release on November 13, show the main character of a turbaned Sikh, played by Devgn, to be having a tattoo of Lord Shiva on his chest. “Since Sikhs are forbidden by their gurus from worshipping idols and deities, the projection of a Sikh being worshipper of Lord Shiva has deeply hurt the religious feelings of the complainant and the Sikh community,” his counsel argued. The complainant also said: “in the official trailer of the film, Sikhs have been maligned and defamed by the dialogues spoken by Ajay Devgn. “These dialogues have lowered the image of Sikhs in the mind of general public and have made them a laughing stock for people and has presented Sikh community in bad taste

and the trailers of the film have been released only to defame the community.” Singh requested that Devgn and

Dhir be summoned and tried for offences of “outraging the religious sentiments of Sikh community and defaming it”.

There will be no OMG Oh My God! in UAEThe film OMG Oh My God!, starring Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar, releases in India today. But as the makers pray for a good opening here, there is some bad news as well. The film hasn’t been given a green signal in the UAE due to the sensitive nature of its subject.Vikram Malhotra, COO, Viacom18 Motion Pictures explains, “We haven’t been given an official statement yet, but from what we’ve been told, the content of the movie is too sensitive.”When did the makers find out about this issue? Vikram says, “A couple of screenings were held by the authorities there. After reviewing the f ilm, they concluded that the f ilm is not acceptable to them.”The f ilm talks about religion and God, subjects which may hurt the sentiments of people. In the f ilm, Paresh Rawal’s character f iles a case against God when he loses his faith after a storm destroys his shop. As the laws in UAE are stringent, it seems diff icult for the f ilm to get an approval for release at all.

Kajal Aggarwal has something extra

One of the most popular genre’s of films that Tamil cinema cananot boast of is the fun-laced road trip movie. Our last sights of such outings have been few and far between. The ones that spring to mind immediately are Venkat Prabhu’s Saroja and Kamal’s Anbe Sivam.Tapping into this void is first-time director P.T. Selvakumar who has roped in a young and impressive cast for his road-trip movie titled Onbathula Guru. The characters in the movie will be played by Vinay, Sathyan, Premgi, Arvind Akash & Jagan. The ladies in the movie are Shriya Saran and Lakshmi Rai who are reportedly playing important roles. The technical team includes Chellathurai, a former aide of K.V Anand, on camera. K will be doing the music for the film after his remarkable outing with Mugamoodi. The

As we know Kajal Aggarwal is a busy star all over the South and is also making inroads to Bollywood. She has many prominent films which are expected to further consolidate her position as the reigning diva. But in addition to being a beautiful star, Kajal is also an intellect it seems and she spends a lot of time updating herself on the current affairs and reading good books. She also uses her spare time in memorizing her dialogues so that she delivers all her lines without any glitches.KV Anand in fact chose Kajal for Maattrraan as he found her to be intelligent. Unit sources testify that Kajal is a pleasure to work with as she grasps things very quickly and despite her language problems, she never gives any room for miscommunication on the sets.

director promises a light-hearted laugh riot and as the title, Onbathula Guru, suggests the characters are surely in for

a ride. The film is set to go on floors on October 10th with Vijay and Jiiva attending the pooja function.

When our second child was on the way, my wife and I attended a pre-birth class aimed at couples who had already had at least one child. The instructor raised the issue of breaking the news to the older child. It went like this: “Some parents,” she said, “tell the older child, ‘We love you so much we decided to bring another child into this family.’ But think about that. Ladies, what if your husband came home one day and said, ‘Honey, I love you so much I decided to bring home another wife.’” One of the women spoke up immediately. “Does she cook???”

There was this little kid who had a bad habit of sucking his thumb. His mother finally told him that if he didn’t stop sucking his thumb, he’d get fat. Two weeks later, his mother had her friends over for a game of bridge. The boy points to an obviously pregnant woman and says, “Ah, ha! I know what you’ve been doing!”

The cowboy lay sprawled across three entire seats in the posh Amarillo theatre. When the usher came by and noticed this he whispered to the cowboy, “Sorry, sir, but you’re only allowed one seat.” The cowboy groaned but didn’t budge. The usher became more impatient. “Sir, if you don’t get up from there, I’m going to have to call the manager. The cowboy just groaned. The usher marched briskly back up the aisle. In a moment he returned with the manager. Together the two of them tried repeatedly to move the cowboy, but with no success. Finally, they summoned the police. The cop surveyed the situation

briefly then asked, “All right buddy, what’s you’re name?” “Sam,” the cowboy moaned. “Where ya from, Sam?” With pain in his voice Sam replied.... “The balcony.”

Two cowboys come upon an Indian lying on his stomach with his ear to the ground. One of the cowboys stops and says to the other, “You see that Indian?” “Yeah,” says the other cowboy. “Look,” says the first one, “he’s listening to the ground. He can hear things for miles in any direction.” Just then the Indian looks up. “Covered wagon,” he says, “about two miles away. Have two horses, one brown, one white. Man, woman, child, household effects in wagon.” “Incredible!” says the cowboy to his friend. “This Indian knows how far away they are, how many horses, what color they are, who is in the wagon, and what is in the wagon. Amazing!” The Indian looks up and says, “Ran over me about a half hour ago.”

I had a dream the other night. I was in the old West riding in a stagecoach. Suddenly, a man riding a horse pulls up to the left side of the stagecoach, and a riderless horse pulls up on the right. The man leans down, pulls open the door, and jumps off his horse into the stagecoach. Then he opens the door on the other side and jumps onto the other horse. Just before he rode off, I yelled out, “What was all that about?” He replied, “Nothing. It’s just a stage I’m going through.”

The doctor tells his patient: “Well I have good news and bad news...” The patient says, “Lay it on me Doc. What’s the bad news?”

“You have Alzheimer’s disease.” “Good heavens! What’s the good news?” “You can go home and forget about it!”

Three ladies were discussing the travails of getting older. One said, “Sometimes I catch myself with a jar of mayonnaise in my hand, while standing in front of the refrigerator, and I can’t remember whether I need to put it away, or start making a sandwich.” The second lady chimed in with, “Yes, sometimes I find myself on the landing of the stairs and can’t remember whether I was on my way up or on my way down.” The third one responded, “ Well, ladies, I’m glad I don’t have that problem. Knock on wood,” as she rapped her knuckles on the table, and then said, “That must be the door, I’ll get it!”

The Committee for the Reduction of Redundancy and the Antiproliferation of Repetition has decided not to meet until they have their first meeting and thus will not be meeting until the first time.Their Pre-meeting Statement wanted to make this clear before they had their first meeting, so that it would not be unor confusing. So their first meeting will actually be their first meeting and they will not have a meeting before the first meeting.

This should avoid having people show up for their first meeting before it is held, since to do so would be confusing to those who did so and this is what they want to avoid by reducing the confusion and lessening the repetition.

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, who has a massive fan following, and whose personal life is always under the scanner, says he will be ready for marriage the day he finds the right person.“If I meet the right person, I would love to get married,” Ranbir told an Oye 104.8 FM radio host. The actor had a roaring affair with Deepika Padukone, and was rumoured to be in a relationship with his co-stars Nargis Fakhri and Katrina Kaif. But Ranbir hopes one day he will find “true love”.“I always think that I will get true love in my life. I hope I can really find that person soon with whom I can live my whole life,” added the actor, who is riding high on the success of “Barfi!”In “Barfi!”, Ranbir was paired with National award-winning actress Priyanka Chopra. In an amusing incident during the promotions of “Barfi!”, Ranbir took a pen and wrote ‘Mumma’s big boy’ on his hand, inspired by Priyanka’s permanent tattoo, which reads ‘Daddy’s lil girl’.This was quite unlike other stars, who get the name of their

love interest tattooed, just like Deepika had got herself inked with an ‘RK’ at the nape of her neck when she was dating Ranbir.“Since I get linked everyday, I might as well keep changing

the name of the girls with a pen than a permanent tattoo,” quipped Ranbir.Ranbir has teamed up with his ex-flame Deepika for “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani”.
