Ship Features
Ships come with a wide variety of features and
options. Here is an overview of some of
th e most
common
areas
found on a
stock
freighter. When exam
ining
th e
deckplans
and
keys of
each
ship, you can
refer back to here for details on
each
section.
Airlock.
Th e
airlock allows crewmembers to cycle
in
an d ou t
of
th e ship
without compromising its envi
ronment. In cases where cargo or personnel mus t be
transferred from
th e
ship in a vacuum, umbilical pas
sageways a re r un from th e adjacent ship
or
docking
array to
th e
ship s airlock.
Armory.
The a rmory
is a
s trong room w he re th e
ship s complement
ofweapons is stored. Thewalls ar e
linedwith reinforced armor plating
to
protect
the r est
of t he s hi p against accidental detonation
or
weapon
discharges. Most
armories
also
come equipped
with
complexlocks so the weapons can be secured (usually
only
th e
captain
ha s th e
key
or access
code). On many
ships, passengers and crew ar e not permitted
to
carry
weaponswhile aboard-a preventive measure against
mutiny an d piracy.
Brig.
Th e
brig is a reinforced
room
which
ca n
be
locked from
th e
outside.
It ha s
few amenities; a
bench
and a small refresher. Manybrigs feature hidden cam
eras
and
microphones. On most ships, only th e cap
tain ha s th e keys to th e brig.
Crew
Cabin. Usually a small spartan
room
contain
ing a bunk, a footlocker,
and
sometimes a small com
puter
station
for each inhabitant. Most crew cabins
hold two to four crewmembers . On ships with small
crews, a
crewmember
may
be
fortunate enough
to
have a
room to
himself.
Captain s Cabin. The largest personal space on
th e
ship.
The captain s
room usually
ha s
a bit more per
sonality than the other cabins, containing not only a
bunk, footlocker, and desk, bu t often also mementos of
past adventures and small touches from th e captain s
homeworld such as art , rugs and so forth). Some
captains prefer to take
th e room
closest
t o t he
escape
pods.
Cargo Hold. Th e cargo hold is on e of the most
important
areas of a freighter, for obvious reasons.
Most holds are large reinforced rooms with plenty of
exposed
ribs, sockets,
an d
tie-offs to secure cargo.
Life
support systems to th e hold can be shut of during
flight
to
conserve energy. More sophisticated
holds
have atmospheric controls which allow th e crew to
alter
th e
temperatureand
gravityindependentlyof
th e
rest
of
th e ship
(altering
th e
gravity is of
great
us e
when loading or unloading cargo). Most captains own
a loading droid
or
a small repulsorsled to getcargo on
and of th e ship.
Cockpit/Bridge.
The
nerve center of
th e
ship,
th e
cockpit contains all of th e controls needed to fly th e
s hi p a nd
monitor its
many
systems, from life
support
to power routing.
In
many cases, a ship s external
w ea pons c an be
operated remotely from
th e
cockpit.
Typical cockpit configurations feature a pilot s sta
tion a co-pilot s station a communications terminal
shield
and
weapons control,
and
an astrogation com
puter.
Common Room. Th e
open
space shared byof -duty
crewmembers and passengers. This space is often
kept clearwhen no t in us e (and on some ships doubles
as th e loading baywhen inport). Comfortablecouches
and entertainment features ar e common features of
th e
common room. Of th e latter, holo gameboards and
vidscreens rankas themost popular recreational items.
On
more
luxurious vessels (especially
those
catering
to passengers), th e common room might be called a
lounge instead-and of er more options, like sabacc
tables
an d
a
wet
bar.
Engine Room. Th e engine
room a buts th e
engine
pods
an d control systems. From here,
th e
heavy-duty
machines
an d
motors which drive
th e
ship ca n be
serviced. Complex repairs usually require external
access to
th e
engines, bu t simple repairs an d diagnos
tics can b e
performed effectively in
th e
engine room.
Some ships lack an engine room proper, and servicing
is
done
viavarious
access
panels
situated throughout
th e
ship.
EntryRamp. Theentry ramp is
th e
main entrance
to
th e ship, usedwhen th e ship is grounded. In freighters,
th e ramps leads to th e loading ba y
or
a main cargo
hold.
In
smaller ships, i t
ma y
simply lead
to
a main
hallway
or
vestibule. Theentry rampis largeenough to
a c co m m od a te s ta n da r d- si z ed
transport carts,
loadlifters,
and
crates. Most ships with a
separate
airlock do not have an airlock as part of
th e
main entry
ramp, though bulkhead
d oo rs may
seal
th e ramp
space from other
parts
of th e ship.
Escape
Pod. The
escape
po d
is
an
emergency mea
sure found on nearly everyspace-faringvessel. Should
th e
ship suf er catastrophic malfunction
or combat
damage, th e crew c an e s ca pe t he doome d s hi p via th e
pods. Ideally, there are sufficient pods to evacuate th e
entire crew and all passengers, bu t many captains

Th e Lantillian Short Hauler-a rugged, well-engi

Th e
Short Hauler was developed by a team of engi

team
was led by Engineer Shil Tervo, a friend
an d
collaborator of Walex Blissex th e designer of th e

Ironically, Lantillian ShipWrights
intended
to fash

to
compete with
th e

th e
Corellian Engineering Corpo
ration. Instead,
th e
small shipbuilding firm produced

within th e financial reach of th e average citizen.
Shortly after

In
addition, th e Short Hauler possess a number ofameni

One complaint is

th e

Chapter One
Lantillian
Short Hauler
h

History: The
Nova Whisper
h as h ad a checkered his
tory. Originally
purchased
by Tev Driscull, a Corellian
commodities shipper, th e
Nova Whisper
was seized by
th e
privateerDharus
near
Elshandruu Pica. After modi
fying th e ship with sensor
stealth
devices and upgrad
ing th e
Whisper s
weaponry, Dharus used th e craft as
an
assault gunboat during raids.
After a few months, th e
Nova Whisper
was captured
by
CorSec
and seconded
to that agency s vehicle pool.
CorSec officials determined th at th e
ship
would be
ideal for sti ng operations against smugglers and pi
rat es a nd left many of th e
Whisper s
illegal modifica
tions in place. Itwas
reasoned
that a legitimate smug
gling vessel would be less likely to trigger th e suspi
cions of target criminals.)
While on loan to a joint CorSec-lmperial taskforce,
th e vessel s pilot-an Alliance sympathizer named
Delt
Nerris-hijacked the
vessel
and turned
it
over
to
th e Rebels. Alliance forces on Asher III used th e
Nova
Whisperas
amedical transport until th e Empiretracked
down and destroyed
most
of
that
Alliance cell, just
prior
to th e
Battle of Hoth.
The
Nova Whisper
was spirited away from Asher
III
by Lernik De Yago, a Rodian arms
merchant
who dealt
with th e Rebels from t im e to time. As th e Empire
move d in t o
destroy the
Alliance insurgents, De Yago
stole th e craft and escaped. In
order
to recoupsome of
his financial
losses-the
Empire seized th e Rodian s
armsshipment before he received payment-De Yago
sold th e craft
to
a shi p dea le r on th e merchant station
Bazaar
The ship dealer stripped th e
Whisper
of many
of
he r
more
exotic modifications
and
placed
th e
craft
on th e auction block.
Modifications:
There ar e
two secret smuggling com
partments
that have bee n shielded against stealth
on e in th e engineering spaces and
on e
in th e
starboard
repulsorlift. In addition, th e ship
ha s
been equipped
with a pair of concealed concussion missile launchers
located in th e aft quarter of th e ship).
T he s hi p s
sensor a rray has been upgraded
an d
now possesses
military-grade detection capability and terrain-follow
ing scanners. Finally, th e ship s laser cannon has been
replaced
with a forward-firing ion cannon.
Legacies:
•
The
Nova Whisper

to

or CorSec officer boards th e vessel,
he

• Lernik De Yago
didn t j us t
sell th e vessel. Realizing
that th e Imperials ha d nearly caught him, he
coded
a
series ofcredit-account
access numbers
into
asubrou-
tine of th e nav c om pute r, del et ing them from his
personal datapad. In
th e

History:
The Firerider
was well known in

It

The

customs

they

Serdo
made

Legacies: Unbeknownst to Fizzi or Serdo, a virus lies

The Z IO Seeker was originally designed and mar

The ship is hardly without flaws, however. Economy

th e

and if the guns ar e damaged, the sensor package tends

is compounded by th e mediocre hull strength and lack

YT· 4
The rugged YT-2400 light transport easily piloted
by a single pilot, was designed with the small-scale
independent freighter captain in mind.
While other new models produced by Corellian
Engineering Corporation incorporate the latest tech
nological advances the integrated systems of the YT-
2400
are
at
least 1
years behind the times.While
some
spacers
may
view this
as
a disadvantage, t he very
simplicity of these des igns is a strength in a
stars
hip
which
can
be expected to t ravel far afield of well
stocked repair facilities with a very small crew. Parts
are
easily found since
most are
also used in much
oldermodels like the venerableYT-1300 , and
theship
is easily maintained and serviced in the field.
The
YT 24 retains
the
distinctive
saucer
hull design
of earlier designs e.g., the YT-1300 , but has many new
features which improve on
the
classic design.
It
has
a
reinforced hull, which makes it more durable than pre
vious models, and the stock engines
are
quite powerful.
Theprimaryescape pod islocated immediatelyaftof the
cockpit for easy
access
by the flight crew.
There
are
number of
standard
optional packages
available for the YT-2400-hull extensions, kits to
convert the cargo
holds
into passenger space and so
on ut
most
owners prefer to make
their
modifica
tions using
third-party
par ts and kits, or
adapt
parts
made for other types of ships.
The
YT-2400-built with a sturdy hull
and
plenty of
expansionspace-is an excellentstartingpoint for cargo
haulerswhowant to load theirshipdownwithenhanced
weapons, shields, and various modifications of ques
tionable legality.
The most
common modifications are
upgrades to the weapon and propulsion systems.
The
YT 24
has
two hard points suitablefor
weapon
mounts on the
top
and bottom of the
saucer
hull. The
stock model comes
with
a singe turret laser gun
mounted on the upper hull, but more powerful weap
ons can be mounted
on both
hard points. Eitherof the
hard points
may alternatively be used to mount a
sensor dish.
The
YT-2400
can
accept
starship
engines designed
for
much
largerships. More significantly, itsmountings
can be
easily modified
to house
military-grade en
gines, a big selling point for certain independent cap
tains
with underground connections and a thirst for
speed.
Its holds, situated in the main hull, make excellent
expansion bays for large sensor suites, weapons sys
tems, shield generators and so on. Because the YT-
2400 is so commonly modified in
the
inter ior, con
structing
hidden
smuggling
compartments
is a
simple
matter.

The

The Lambarian rab
History: The Lambarian rab was
purchased
from a
Corellian Engineering Corporation
dealer
by
Matas
Havel. Havel was
an
honest trader who made regular
runs from the Colonies to the Outer Rim.
s
his
business thrived, he added supplemental cargo exten
sions on
the upper hull, and beefed
up
the shields to
deal with the threat of
Outer
Rim pirates.
Havel sold the
ship
alter three years to a boisterous
captain named Finious Crab, who gave the
ship
its
present name.
Crab
was
anything
but
an
honest
trader-he promptly
tore out most of
the redundant
systems and safety backups to make room for all the
illegal modifications he made to the ship-transform
ing it from a reliable by-the-book
ship
to a flying coffin
albeit a very fast
and stealthy
one .
Crab
made
quite a
name
for himself smuggling
contraband goods into the Corellia system, and the
Lambarian rab soon became infamous for slipping
blockades
and
dodging
customs
craft as it
made
its
Corellian runs.
Ironically, Crab was
done
in not by the Empire or
CorSec, but by his own
sloppy
maintenance
habits
during
one
of his runs, his life support failed,
and
the
rab
reverted
from hyperspace
near
Eriadu with a
frozen corpse at
the
helm.
The
ship
was salvaged and resold to its current
owners, Linx Mallicker and Fillio Androu, a pair of
Wroonian smugglers who ply
the
Rimma
Trade
Route.
Mallicker and Androu run guns and other weapons
into
the
Core from
underground
manufacturing
plants
in th e
Outer Rim Territories they
avoid Corellia .
Most of their customers are Imperial officials with a
taste for illegal firearms, though they also supply a lew
small Rebel cells with ordnance.
Modifications: Most
th e modifications done to th e
rab
are
described
in
the
accompanying
ship stats.
There
are
also
two secret smuggling
compartments
installed by Finious which
are
used by the cu rren t
crew. One is located under the deck
th e hallway
leading Irom the
cockpit
to
th e
saucer
hull.
The
other
is
behind
a false wall in
one
the
external
cargo
pods.
Legacies:
•
The
profile
the
rab
has been
lorwarded
byCorSec
to most
Imperial civil
and
military
databases.
When
ever
a Imperial customs official boards
the rab
roll
his law enforcement skill.
II
he makes a Moderate roll,
he recognizes the
ship
and givesit an intensive inspec
tion-even if the
characters persuade
him they have
no
connection
with its
lormer
owners.
• Finious installed a small secret compartment which
is located in the cockpit deck
escape
pod socket.
Locating it requires a Moderate search roll while the
escape
pod
is ou t its socket maybe for servicing or
because
it was used .
No
one
has
discovered this
compartment in the years since Finious died. What
contraband might he have hidden
there
belore his
untimely death? Old Jedi relics? Maps
supposedly
leading to the lost Katana fleet? Blackmail
papers
to a
now-great Moll?

light freighter is one of
the more recent
designs introduced by Corellian Engineering Corpora
tion. In many ways the X5 S is a smaller-scale ver
sion of the
corvette
CEC developed for military use.
The sublight
and
hyperdrive assembly is almost iden
tical in design
to
the Corellian
corvette though
it is
considerably smaller .
The XS-800-unlike other freighters of its ty -
was built with crewcomfort in mind.
Quarters
areeach
equipped with a small refresher unit as well as
an
autochef and
personal
computer system. Each crew
chamber is environmentally sealed
and
the gravity
temperature
and atmospheric
configuration
can
be
adjusted
to sui t
the individual crewer.
In order to
con
serve
space
bunks fold out from the bulkhead making
for small
but
comfortable
quarters.
XS 8 s are equipped
with two escape pods
that
can
each seat five people.
In
addition
the
cockpit is de
signed to break away as a sealed module in the event of
an explosionin space. By activatinga
series
ofexplosive
bolts
the
cockpit
chamber can separate
from
the
hull
and
maintain internal life
support
for three days.
The
cockpit has no guidance system though an emergency
repulsorlift allows
the
unit
to
land
if
it is pulled into the
gravitywell of a planet. Once the cockpit
has
separated
from
the
hlill
the
ship
is essentially destroyed.

ive Corellian XS-800 Light Freighter
The Distant Wind
History: The Distant Wind was owned
by
a Sullustan
gambler named Cunbus Locb. Locb used the modified
freighter to travel from system to system,
where
he
would engage in all
manner
of high-stakes games of
chance. Locb became something of a minor celebrity;
in fact, his success rate-particularly
at
sabacc-was
quite high.
Themore Locbwon, the
more
he modified his craft,
upgrading
the
vessel s engines,shields
and
weaponry.
In addition, Locb invested a large portion of his win
nings in works of art,
and
the
Wind s
hold was usually
full of sculptures, holopaintings and other such items.
Roughly one year prior to
the
Battle of Yavin, Locb
encountered an Imperial Moff Ammar of Portmoak
sector. Moll Ammar
was
also a
collector
of rare art,
and
possessed a flatsculp by a revered Chandrilan
artist. Locblauncheda complicatedconfidencescheme
and
managed
to
cheat
during a high-stakes
round
of
sabacc,
winning
the
flatsculp.
As Locb made his escape, Ammar realized he
had
been cheated
and launched
an
all-out search for the
Sullustan. The gambler died during th e ensuing
struggle, and no sign of the
flatsculp-entitled
Stars
and
Moons -was discovered.
Ammar impounded the vessel and searched it thor
oughly before
ordering the
craft
sold at
a public auc
tion.
Modifications:
The Distant Wind s
onlymajor
upgrade
is to the sensor array. Locb augmented his sensors
so
that they
could
patch
into a series of small
scanners
that
he could carry on his person. (The scanners were
roughly the sizeof
credit
chips.) Locbwould place
the
scanners around a room during a gambling session ,
and the devices would feed him
data
on
cards that
his
opponents held.
fn addition, four small smuggling compartments
have
been
added
behind the overhead
lighting panels
in the craft s common room.
Legacies:
• Stars andMoons is stillhidden aboard, in
one ofthe
smuggling compartments (discovering the compart
ment requires a Very Difficult search roll, a Difficult
sensors
roll or a Heroic
Perception
roll). Moll Ammar
still oilers a substantial reward for the recovery of the
flatsculp.
• Hidden in the other smuggling
compartment
is a
counterfeit
version of Stars and Moons (Locb was
planning to switch the counterfeit for the genuine
article if he couldn t win the flatsculp in a sabacc
game). The forgery is excellent, requiring a Very Dilli-
cult forgery or Heroic
Perception
roll to detect. (This
raises
the question
of which flatsculp is genuine.)
Characters
can
bring the item to an art dealerwhowill
be
able
to
identify
and authenticate
the
artwork,
but
this dealer will also be aware that
the
item is stolen.
The
ar t
dealer may blackmail
the characters
into
performing some sort of
service
in exchange for his
silence, or he may simply notify Moll Ammar.
• Locbwas, in fact, a massive cheat
and
fraud. Numer
ous enemies are still seeking the Sullustan. The
Distant
Wind is recognized widely among gamblers, smug
glers
and
other
fringe elements
throughout
Parmel,
Portmoak and
Quence sectors
and
characters may be
fired upon by angry acquaintances of Locb.
