It is with great pleasure that we are able to offer you the STAR courses presented in this booklet. These courses, and the way they are delivered, refl ect our unique contribution to education. We have a successful history of delivering tertiary education within a Māori environment and we are now working to provide a seamless transition for secondary school students into our programmes. I trust you will enjoy your learning experience with us and that it will inspire you to pursue further education at the tertiary level.

BACKGROUND

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa is the largest Māori tertiary education provider in Aotearoa (New Zealand). Guided by Maōri principles and values, Te Wānanga o Aotearoa seeks to provide teaching and learning activities in

accordance with ahuatanga Māori (Māoritradition) and tikanga Māori (Māori custom). This has infl uenced the unique teaching and delivery style employed by the organisation and embraced by its tauira (students). The delivery style places tauira at the centre of the teaching experience through an emphasis on face to face learning, pastoral support, and teaching and learning resources rel-evant to the tauira.

OUR STAR INTENTIONS

We commit to be responsive to tauira needs, and our STAR delivery aims to refl ect this. We commit to providing you with a qualitylearning experience which will support your NCEA achievement while giving you a unique perspective to learning at a tertiary level. All our courses aim to add value to your life and recognise the knowledge you may already have within you.

See your STAR coordinator if you wish to participate in one of our courses, or contact us directly.
