Stanton celebrates

On a blustery Saturday morning, Mr. Sefcik and his guests came together to celebrate Dia de los

Muertos, or Day of the Dead. Dia de los Muertos is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and focuses

on gatherings of family and friends to remember friends and family members who have died and help

support their spiritual journey. A special thank you to Mrs. Carbajal, Ms. Huerta, and Mrs. Juarez for

coordinating this wonderful celebration. According to Mr. Sefcik, “It was an awesome celebration of

family, togetherness, and community.”

Sick Day Guidelines: Making the Right Choice

With cold and flu season upon us, here are a few friendly reminders... To keep all children healthy, make sure they have plenty of rest and a nutritious diet. Show your child the proper way to wash their hands and to do it frequently throughout the day. A good habit to start is to have your student was their hands when they come home from school. Make sure to use soap and water and rub the hands together for at least 20 seconds. Limit touching areas such as the eyes, nose or mouth. Teach your child to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or their arm. Minimize the time your child spends with others who are ill. Avoid sharing personal items such as hats, brushes, combs, and lip balms. Please keep your child home if he or she:

Has a fever of 100.4 degrees or higher

Has abdominal cramps and/or vomiting

Has a sore throat with fever (see below)

Has a persistent cough (dry or productive)

Has diarrhea (3 or more episodes in 24 hours)

Has a rash or open and draining sores

Has symptoms that prevent him or her from participating in school, such as: excessive tiredness, lack of appetite, headaches, body aches, earaches, or a severe sore throat.

If your child has recently been ill, please be aware of the following guidelines before having your child return to school, athletic or social activities:

They should feel fit for at least 24 hours.

Be fever free for at least 24 hours without medication.

Be free of vomiting and/or diarrhea for at least 24 hours.

If your child was prescribed antibiotic, they must be on the antibiotic for 24 hours. (This includes eye drops)

Rash illnesses should be assessed by a doctor and a doctor’s not should be given. Please notify the school if your child has been diagnosed with an infectious condition. Examples include, but are not limited to, strep throat, chickenpox, scarlet fever, pertussis, head lice, hand foot and mouth.

Mrs.

Lanners’

Medication at School Per our district policy, the completed “School Medication Authorization Form” is required to administer any medication

(prescribed and over the counter) to students. This form can be found on our website and requires both a parent/guardian’s and licensed prescriber’s signature.

For the safety of all students an adult must drop off any medications to the office. Students are not allowed to possess any medications (prescription or over the counter) on school grounds, at school functions, or on the bus.

A student may possess an epinephrine auto-injector and/or asthma inhaler provided the student’s parent/guardian has completed the School Medication Authorization Form.

Earlier this month, the

Stanton and Lotus

Choir had a unique

opportunity to perform

at the Chicago Wolves

game during a special

Veterans Day

performance. 45

schools from the area

and approximately

1,500 singers

participated. Choirs

were in "surround

sound" fashion around the arena, making everyone enveloped in the beautiful music. The

patriotic medley 'Our America' consisted of five patriotic tunes, ending with the stirring

"God Bless the USA." The combined Choir students had 95 family members in attendance,

and even though the Chicago Wolves lost, everyone had a wonderful time!
