THE CONCEPT BEHIND THE STANTON 681 CALIBRATION STANDARD SERIES
For a long time, a large technological gap existed within the record ing industry. Recording equipment and playback electronics had outgrown the capabilities of the best state-of-the-art cartridge designs. While a few units were markedly better than their contemporaries, there was no cartridge of sufficient sophisticat ion to be used as a primary calibration standard in sys tem checkouts for linearity and equalization when it corresponded to a curve based on a particular cartridge selected by the engineer. Also, there was no accepted " standard" cartridge for A & R (artist and repertory) evaluation. Whether a preproduction disk sample sounded too "dead" or "bright " was large ly a matter of cartridge selection.
The Calibrat ion Standard concept was an outgrowth of these needs. Stanton Magnetics resolved to produce an " absolute" cartridge standard - stereo cartridges of such linearity and overall quality as to gain immediate acceptance within the recording and broadcasting industries, and of so advanced a design as to remain the standard for years to come.
How well Stanton succeeded is evidenced by an almost un iversal acceptance of Calibration Standard car1ridges by engineers, music critics and music ians, Now, the famous Calibration Standard Series, designated the 681, consists of four superb cartridges. They feature an incredib ly low mass, moving magnetic system which is but 1/ 5 to 1/ 10 that of ordinary pickups. Its frequency response from 10Hz to 20,000 Hz Is virtually a straight line. Every 681 is guaranteed to meet the specifi cations within exacting limits and tha most meaningful wa rranty possible - Individual calibration test results-comes packed with each unit.

THE 680 STEREO STANDARD SERIES
This series was developed for qualities of ruggedness, born out of the needs of the Disco industry. Here is where a cartridge has to face probably the toughest physical demands of any professional situation . The result was a cartridge, the 680 EL, designed and engineered with optimum balance of vertical stylus force, compliance and stylus shank strength.
Its toughness and sound excellence make it a perfect choice too, for on-the-air use by the broadcast industry, in fact, anywhere that there's a need for toughness and sound quality.
As a result of the techniques learned in producing the extra tough "workhorse" cartridge, Stanton also developed a cartridge not quite so tough, but perfect for critical listening, the 680 EE. It is more strongly constructed than most cartridges; yet it possesses outstanding listening characteristics, and it tracks at the very lightest forces.
SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED AND ENGINEERED FOR DISCO USE
MODEL 680EL
Discotheques represent one of the most grueling professional situations for a pickup that can be imagined. Not only must the cartridge achieve a particularly high level of sound excellence, it must do so in the "live" environment of back cueing , slip cueing, heavy tracking forces, vibration and potential mishandling . .. where a damaged stylus means much more than lost music ... it means lost business. The 680 EL meets the challenge head on - and satisfies it!
The 680 EL comes complete with a spare stylus, since it is imperative in a "live" disco situation to be able to make an immediate "on duty" replacement. Replacement styli are sold eitheir singly or in packs of three.

THE PERFECT BLEND OF EXTRA LIGHT TRACKING AND RUGGEDNESS
MODEL 680EE
The 680EE is capable of a particularly high level of performance for those professional situations where light tracking forces are essential and durability is desirable. The 680EE, besides possessing outstanding listening characteristics, tracks at the very lightest forces, % to 1 '12 grams. Of course, it is perfect for home entertainment applications. Its level of performance is comparable with top-of-theline models yet it is modestly priced.

STANTON 600 BROADCAST STANDARD-H.P.
This is an important group in Stanton's Professional Standard Series of cartridges. It's designated "The Broadcast Standard - H.P." , and it represents a noteworthy advance in cartridge design and engineering. Some outstanding features of Stanton's top-of-the line 681 Series have been carefully engineered into this new series in order to produce pick-ups of outstandingly High Performance.
From a specification standpoint, these cartridges feature reduced tip mass to provide outstanding frequency response for both on-the-air use and critical record listening . They have a remarkable ability to withstand ru gged handling witholjt sacrifice of audio quality, thus assuring high quality sound with minimum maintenance. The Broadcast Standard-H.P. achieved immediate acceptance as a fine solution for the Audiophile, who is seeking a pick-up worthy of the rest of his fine equipment, as well as the professiona l who needs a precision product to help achieve his objective .

QUADRAHEDRAl
SYMBOL OF A FABULOUS ENGINEERING BREAKTHROUGH IN DISCRETE, 4-CHANNEL STYLUS DESIGN ...
THE STANTON 780/400 CARTRIDGE
A totally revolutionary stylus design concept turns out to be the answer for discrete playback! Stanton created this stylus for its four channel cartridge .
This is the first American designed and manufactured stylus assembly developed for discrete fourchannel records. It was especially engineered for the Stanton 780/4DO cartridge .
The performance of this remarkable cartridge fulfills all the extensive demands and sophisticated requirements necessary for playback of all the material recorded on discrete discs. And while performing brilliantly , it is actually very kind to records in terms of wear. Stanton's own engineers, whose professional products are the standards of the industry, tested and proved its characteristics, and report that it functions with total reliability in every measurable aspect.

FOR DISCRETE PLAYBACKFEATURING THE OUADRAHEDRAL STYLUS ASSEMBLY
THE STANTON 780/0 CARTRIDGE
With the introduction of the Discrete Four-Channel record, another order of magnitude of performance was required of the cartridge. The Stanton 780/0 was designed and engineered to faithfully reproduce not only 20 Hz to 20 kHz AM signals, but also the 30 kHz modulated signals in the record 's grooves. It has a frequency response that provides excellent performance and crosstalk characteristics out to 45 kHz. This advance was the result of the combination of an improved cartridge design and a new high performance stylus assembly, the OUADRAHEDRAL.
The Stanton 780/0 not only provides outstanding performance when playing the new discrete fourchannel records, but also provides superior performance when playing standard stereo records, or Fourchannel Matrix Derived Compatible Systems.

STANTON 500 BROADCAST SERIES
Great sound with little maintenance can be built into any broadcast operation with this rugged car-Irldge series. Stanton 500's have been designed to overcome operational problems caused by roughly handled cartridges and styli. without sacrificing quai-Ity performance and sound. Historically, this serles has enjoyed a continuing customer acceptance and demand.
There Is a Stanton 500 for every broadcast application from c ritical auditioning in the record library to " Top 40" combo work where DJ operators' have no time for stylus failures. The stylus assembly of the SOD Series can withstand the back-cueing and
1 rough handling that would ru in ordinary pickups. Yat frequency response Is superb, as are tracking abili ty • output and stereo channel separation.
FM and FM/Stereo operations can benefit from Installation of these rugged pickups, and they are ideal for upgrading older equipment In AM stations.
Wi th Increasing emphasis being placed on the elimination of monophonic pressings by most recording companies, Stanton 500's are manufactured in "stereo only" versions, but their two-chapnel output may be wired monophonically with no change In specifications.
