Tomorrow is Walk To School Day
Park the car up the road and walk with your child! Get together with other families to create a
‘Walking School Bus’! There are lots of ways to become more active and
begin a healthier lifestyle! Tomorrow is the perfect day to start!
Reading volunteers
If there are any parents able to spend 15 minutes before school, hearing students reading, please let me know via text or school email. We are looking at the 8.45am -9.00am time slot at this stage. A list of students to work with would be available and would come in as called. The reading sessions would take place in the library to minimise disruptions form others. Hopefully we can begin this coming Monday.

Shrine of Remembrance Excursion
Thanks once again to our fabulous RSL members, our grade 3-6 students were able to visit and explore the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne on Tuesday. Our group was led through the maze of exhibits by Vic, himself a veteran of Vietnam. We took part in the ‘Ray of Light’ ceremony, which is recreated to symbolise the sun shining through and landing on a plaque inside the Shrine at 11.00am on the 11th of November, each year. We finalised our tour by placing a poppy on the Wall of Remembrance and were asked to think of one of those from Stanhope who had paid the supreme sacrifice for us, as we did so. Transition Fun
As part of the transition program, we had a team from Rushworth P-12 run a basketball clinic with our grades 5 & 6 students on Monday. It was a terrific way to engage students and encourage them to be active and try their hand at hoops! Grade 3-6
Each Monday afternoon, the grade 3-6 class endure Mrs O taking them. We have been working on ‘Values Education’. Students sorted ‘values’ and determined which ones are most important to us as individuals, where and when other values might be more or less important and so on. As well, students had to give examples of when they had demon-strated the following strengths:
‘I am honest’; ‘I am fair’; ‘I can be trusted’; ‘I care about other people’s feelings’ & ‘I have good manners’. This is the result!

TRANSITION FUN
Focus on fitness…AND Health!
Stanhope Primary is very proud of the way our students engage in a range of physically active sports and other activities, both at school and out of school. However, it is timely that we remind families to be selective in what they include for snacks and lunches. Lollies have never been allowed at school, nor foods containing nuts (peanut butter or Nutella for example) Young children perform better both academically, socially and physically when they have a nutritious diet. Many families are sending healthy foods, but we rely on everyone to make it a lifelong habit for their children to choose healthy foods and drinks. Here’s an extract from the Better Health Channel:
Healthy lunches and snacks help children concentrate, learn and play throughout the day. We know that chil-dren need to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables every day, as well as wholegrains, milk products (including cheese and yoghurt), meat and meat alternatives and water. You can include all of this in your child’s lunch box and still make it fun and interesting to eat. By planning ahead, you can make sure that your child’s lunch box has each of the six key elements of a healthy lunchbox. These elements are:
► fresh fruit
►fresh crunchy vegetables
►milk, yoghurt or cheese (you can use reduced-fat options for children over the age of two years). For children who cannot tolerate milk products, offer appropriate alternatives like calcium fortified soy rice drink, or soy yoghurt.
►a meat or meat alternative food like some lean meat (for example, chicken strips), hard boiled eggs, hummus or peanut butter. If your school has a nut-free policy, peanut butter and other nuts should not be included in your child’s lunchbox.
►a grain or cereal food like bread, a roll, flat bread, fruit bread or crackers (wholegrain or wholemeal choices are best)
►fresh tap water These links give a fuller picture. https://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/health/healthyliving/lunch-boxes-menu-planner https://www.healthykids.nsw.gov.au/stats-research/healthy-eating.aspx

This includes travel, accommodation, food and some activities for four days/ 3 nights.
How likely are you to send your child to camp if the cost is:

Not likely at all Somewhat likely Very likely Will send regardless of cost
OPTION B

Not likely at all Somewhat likely Very likely Will send regardless of cost
School Council are looking at the viability of this high cost on families, especially where there are
siblings in same and adjoining year levels and seek an indication of families perspectives on this
cost and how that aligns with the school capacity to proceed with such camps.
If a response is not received from all Grade 5-6 families this will be considered a negative or
non-interest response.
