The student has not demonstrated the required knowledge and skills of the Georgia Performance standards. Extensive remediation is required. The student has not mastered ALL components of the given standard. The student will have other opportunities to learn the material during the school year. Some students may require extensive remediation to get to mastery.

On the report card, standards indicated with an asterisk will be standards not yet assessed during this term. However, a grade will be given by the end of the year.

What is the purpose of a

Standards-Based Report Card?

The purpose of the Standards-Based Report Card is to provide more detailed feedback to parents regarding the progress of their children. The new report card will allow parents to understand more clearly what is expected of the students and how to help them be successful in a rigorous academic program.

How does the Standards-Based Report Card compare to the

letter grade system?

Letter grading systems offer a general picture of how individual students are performing. The Standards-Based Report Card measures how well an individual student is doing in relation to specific grade level standards. If a child does not meet mastery, “N” is assigned with a comment/suggestion that the child will have other opportunities to learn the material during the school year. This gives parents a better understanding of their child’s strengths and weaknesses.

How will my child’s grades

be determined? Students’ ability to meet the standards will be determined by both their oral and written work. Grade-level checklists will allow teachers to identify each child’s level of achievement. Student report cards will reflect the following:

During the first semester, we expect students to develop and progress toward the learning standard. As the year progresses, the student will move toward mastery or exceeds.
