Did you know that Homeopathy is the second most widely used system of medicine in the world? In England and the Netherlands homeopathy is even included in the National Health Service!

In England, 42% of the countries-physicians refer patients to homeopaths. The Royal family itself has used homeopathy for three generations! In France, over 18,000 physicians prescribe homeopathic remedies. There are seven medical schools offering post graduate degrees in Homeopathy, and all pharmacies carry homeopathic remedies. Why do these, and so many other countries, value this form of medicine?

1. Homeopathy is extremely effective. When the correct remedy is taken, results can be rapid, complete and permanent.

2. Homeopathy is completely safe. Infants and pregnant women can use Homeopathy without the danger of side effects. Homeopath-ics can also be taken at the same time as other medications without producing unwanted side effects.

3. Homeopathy is natural. It works with your immune system, unlike

some conventional medicines, which suppress the immune system (e.g. Cough medicines-suppress the cough reflex, which is your body’s attempt to clear the lungs).

4. Homeopathic remedies are not addictive. Once relief is felt, you should stop taking them. If no relief is felt, you probably need a different homeopathic remedy.

5. Homeopathy is holistic. It treats all the symptoms as one, or addresses the cause, not the symptoms.

A fuller understanding of homeopathic pharmacology helps us to really grasp the energy medicine model. The human body operates with a complex, and at the same time, simple, vital force. Energy animates the body and causes the cells to talk to each other in order for things to operate as they should. Well-being depends on our keeping this vital force operating at its maximum equilibrium.

Homeopathic preparations are produced through a process known as “potentization”, where upon the original substance is diluted and

“successed” or shaken. Depending on the potency desired this process will be repeated. In this way, the “etheric energy” in the substance is freed to interact with the energy of the body.

With that basic concept in mind, let’s now consider the three principles basic to homeopathic medicine:

1. Like cures like. A substance given in large crude doses will produce specific symptoms. When this same material has been reduced in size, and administered in minute doses, it will stimulate the body’s reactive processes to remove these same symptoms (e.g. “Ipecacuanha” will create nausea in large doses and relieve nausea in small doses).

2. Minimal Dose. The remedy is taken in an extremely diluted form; normally one part of the remedy to around 1,000,000,000,000 parts of water.

3. The Single Remedy. Even if many symptoms are being experienced, generally only

one remedy is taken.The one remedy targets all the symptoms. To illustrate, consider how homeopathics function effectively with insomnia. A person may be very excited or happy and not be able to “turn off” their mind at night when it’s time for bed. “Coffea Cruda” is derived from unroasted coffee beans, which, of course, can cause symptoms of insomnia. Insomina is simply a symptom of an imbalance in the the vital force, or “energy” which animates the body.

When an insomniac is given the homeopathic remedy “Coffea Cruda” the energy of the remedy resonates with the existing state of imbalance being experienced. The vital force is provoked to throw off the energy of the remedy, and along

with it-the existing imbalance. The imbalance is “cleared” and sleep is improved.

Why, then, doesn’t everyone take homeopathic preparations? Good question! One of the main reasons may be that homeopathics general-ly take a bit longer to function than conventional medicines. It is also very personalized, usually requiring a trained natural health care profes-sional’s assistance.

Homeopathy doesn’t subscribe to the “one-pill–for-all” mentality. The right preparation needs to be taken for symptoms. For example, a headache may be caused by many things (phsical, emotional or physio-logical). One must identify what the source of the issue is in order to address the headache rather than

simply take a pill. To be honest, most people are far too impatient.

Dr. David Reilly of the Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital in Great Britain said, regarding the efficacy of homeopathic preparations,“there were positive findings in 70 percent of a further 180 clinical trials. I hope this will encourage doctors to examine the volume of evidence supporting homeopathy-they might be surprised.”

Is homeopathy really proven to be effective? You be the judge...

• The worldwide influenza epidemic of 1918 killed 22 million people worldwide. The death rate was 30%, or higher, for those treated conventionally,while homeopaths had an amazing 98% success rate with their patients!

• During Europe’s Cholera and Typhus epidemics (from the 1860′s to the early 1900′s) people using homeopathy had survival rates 50%, or higher, than those treated with conventional medicine.

• In an epidemic of Typhus in Leipzig (1813), Dr. Hahnemann (the “Father of Homeopathy”) treated

180 cases (losing only two patients). Mortality rates for conventional treatment were over 30%.

• During the cholera epidemic 1849 in Cincinnati, with survival rates between 40-52%, those treated by homeopathy had a 97% survival.

• In the Buenos Aires polio epidemic of 1957 the homeopathic remedy “Lathpyrus” was given to thousands of people. Not one case of polio was reported among these individuals.

• During Iowa’s smallpox epidemic of 1902, 15 doctors

administered the homeopathic remedy “Variolinum” to 2,806 patients. The protection rate was 97%!

• During a typhus epidemic in 1813, Dr. Hahnemann cured 179 of 180 cases.

Flower Essence RemediesDr. Edward Bach, 1930’s physician, pathologist, bacteriologist, and homeopath, firmly believed that the failure of modern medicine “is that it is dealing with results and not causes.” He believed that diseases of the body come about as a result of imbalances, or negativity, in one’s life. He set out to prove that by correcting the problem at ones core...harmony would result in the body. His famous quote was: “Seek the outstanding mental conflict in the person, give him the remedy that will overcome that conflict and all the hope and encouragement you can, then the virtue within him will, itself do all the rest.”

Many forms of ancient medicine have utilized plants, and plant extracts, however, Bach’s harvest-ing method was somewhat revolu-tionary. At the beginning of his research he collected dew from the petals of flowers. From his case studies, he could see that the dew, containing some of the curative properties of the plant, was very medicinal.

In order to produce greater quanti-ties of these essences Bach developed a process called “mother tincture”. He lightly boiled the flowers, or allowed them to “steep” in the sun. He added two ingredi-ents to this mixture; water and brandy (for preservation). Bach believed that this “mother tincture” process provided the flower essences with a perfect balance of four essential elements:

• The earth nurtures the plant.• The air feeds the plant.• The sun, or fire, imparts power

Bach Flower Essences are similar

to homeopathic remedies in that they are diluted and “potentized” to increase their effectiveness.They are also considered to be a “vibrational medicine,” and they rely on the concept of water memory. For this reason they are labeled as homeopathics. Homeopathics follow certain precepts, such as the “law of similars,” and the process of “succussing” (or shaking) the product. Bach Flowers, however, do not follow these precepts. Dr. Bach developed a system detailing seven major emotional groups (i.e. fear, loneliness, insuffi-cient interest in present circum-stances, despondency and despair, uncertainty, over sensitivity to influences and ideas, overcare for the welfare of others) under which people could be classified. He categorized 38 negative states of mind under these groups. Utiliz-ing his knowledge of homoeopa-thy, Dr. Bach formulated a plant, or flower, based remedy to treat each of these emotional states. These are the unique “Bach Flower Remedies”.

One well-chosen remedy can be very powerful. Certain groupings of remedies have also reaped good results when treating a single condition. Take the emotional state of “fear,” for example. Several helpful herbals come to mind; Rock Rose for panic or fear, Aspen for groundless fears, and Mimulus for fear of unknown causes. Together these three will generally cover most facets of “fear”.

Rescue Remedy is probably the most well-known and widely used flower essence combination. It is comprised of Rock Rose (for panic), Clematis (for being ungrounded), Impatiens (for tension), Cherry Plum (for fear of losing control), and Star of Bethlehem (for trauma and numbness). This combination, you can imagine, is perfect for mothers in labor.Flower Essences are also a great alternative for children and pets. Caretakers can often detect moods of agitation, fear, trauma, low self-esteem, and shyness. Nightmares, hyperactivity, or other behavioral issues may seem to be issues.
