Transcript of Stand Out: Eleven Rules for Persuasive Presentations
stand outWe need to talk about how you’re going to impress.
Rule One No matter their age, people do not pay attention to boring things
Rule two Remember Rule One
Rule THREE Every story has a beginning, a middle and an end. So should your presentation.
ACT ONE The setup
ACT TWO The confrontation
ACT THREE The resolution
Rule four It’s about killer headlinesIt is not a title. It is a headline. It’s also not your job to bore them to death
Rule five You need hero images.
Typically, only 10% of words are remembered after 3 days. Add an image and it increases to 65%.
Rule six Keep it simple and concise.
I write thrillers that keep you up at night.
Not blah, blah, blah…!
I write detective novels and my main character is a drunk ex-cop that almost always gets his man except when he doesn’t. He’s actually a recovering alcoholic but rarely attends AA meetings which doesn’t help... yada, yada, yada
Some presentations have more bullets than a Uzi. You don’t need that many to be effective.
Rule seven Ditch the bullets
Rule eight Less will always be moreYou need to tell the story Not read from your slide deck
Rule nine It’s not all about you. It’s actually about your audience.
Unless of course, it really is about you.
Rule ten Simplicity rules. One idea. One slide.
Rule eleven ALWAYS remember Rule One
