1. Standard of finenessThis indicates the proportion of a pure precious metal contained in an alloy. It is expressed in thousands, e.g. 750/1000, or in carats in the case of gold, e.g. 18 carats, 24 carats being 100 % gold.

2. Logotype of the manufacturerFor example, the hammer is the collective responsibility mark for manufacturers of watch-cases in the Jura.

3. Swiss assay markEvery watch-case made of gold, silver, platinum or palladium sold in Switzerland has to be officially assayed and hallmarked. A single official hallmark was adopted in 1995 – the St. Bernard head.
