Hello Everyone,
EASTER MESSAGE
Remarkably tomorrow marks the end of Term 1 with students finishing at 1.00pm. It has been a
whirlwind term with many highlights including the swimming carnival, Preps attending full time,
Teddy Bears Picnic, Student Leader Days and the Year 5 & 6 Camp to name a few. Term 2 will be
just as busy as I already know that some levels have excursions booked, Interschool Sport kicks off,
the introduction of tennis lessons, Year 3 & 4 Footsteps dance program and the Year 5 & 6 ballroom
dance program all commence. There are plenty of other events on during the term so can you please
monitor the calendar as there may be some additions or alterations as the term progresses.
SAD NEWS
As the school holiday ends we enter the Holy Season of Easter.
The Catholic Church hasn’t had a great run of late but we need
to reflect on the message of Christ and look after each other.
Jesus sacrificed his life for the good of others. Use this time of
Easter to reflect, support each other and see the good in this
world. As long as we have such compassionate and dedicated
priests such as Fr Steve, Fr Thao and Fr Lenin in our communi-
ty the church is in good hands. Please check the services times
and try to get to Mass over this period. Today we came together
as a school and held a beautiful Liturgy for Easter.
Last Wednesday I was devastated by the sad news regarding a colleague,
fellow Principal and close friend’s passing. Dane Malone was the Principal at
St Martin of Tours in Rosanna. Prior to St Martins he was the Principal at St
Francis of Assisi in Mill Park and St Cecilia’s in Glen Iris. Before Dane held
these principal positions, he was the Deputy Principal here at St Thomas the
Apostle for many years.
A number of our current parents, who were themselves students here at St
Thomas the Apostle, will remember Dane as the Deputy Principal. He
contributed so much to Catholic Education and will be sorely missed. On
behalf of the St Thomas the Apostle community I send our sincerest
condolences to his wife, Maureen, and their four children.
ENRICHMENT AND CARE
In Term 2 the students will commence wearing their full winter uniforms. Hats will not be required
on the yard, however if it is a sunny day common sense should prevail and hats will be needed. The
uniform is available from Northern Uniforms in South Morang.
WINTER UNIFORM
When the students return after the school holidays we plan to have a new piece of play equipment
installed in the playground waiting for them. The SCA have funded a tee-pee style climbing frame
for the children to explore. As the equipment is new we will have to roster certain levels on at our
lunch breaks until the novelty slows down.
NEW PLAY EQUIPMENT
ANZAC APPEAL 2019
We are supporting the 2019 ANZAC Appeal. Badges will be availa-
ble for the students to purchase, ranging in price from $2.00 to $5.00.
Senior students will continue to visit classrooms tomorrow and the
first week of next term to enable children to purchase items.
Commencing on Fridays in Term 2, the SCA, under the supervision of Natalie Gallo, will be offering
hot food lunch orders. A note went out recently asking for volunteers to assist on these days. Your
assistance is gratefully appreciated as it ensures Hot Food Fridays can continue.
HOT FOOD FRIDAYS
A reminder that the Term 1 ends for students tomorrow
Friday, 5th April at 1:00 pm.
OSHC is available if you are unable to collect
your children at 1.00pm. Bookings essential.
School resumes for Term 2 on
Tuesday, 23rd April.
END OF TERM TOMORROW
PREP EASTER BONNET PARADE
Tomorrow, Friday, 5th April, at 9.15am,the Prep students will proudly
strut their stuff in their Easter Bonnet Parade. Parents are welcome to
attend and to get some lifetime memory photos.
ENRICHMENT AND CARE
Due to a clash with NAPLAN testing the proposed School Closure Day on Friday, 17th May has
been moved to Friday, 24th May.
MAY SCHOOL CLOSURE DAY - CHANGE OF DATE
Daylight saving ends this Sunday so enjoy the
extra hour of sleep. Have a great break with your
families, rest up, splurge on Easter eggs and hot
cross buns and we look forward to seeing you all on
your return in Term 2.
David Delaney Principal
Thank you to Michelle Caruana who
put together this beautiful Library
display for Easter. The students have
had a great time reading all these sea-
sonal books.
A reminder to students to rest, relax,
rejuvenate and continue reading over
the holidays!
I’m sure Michelle will have some more
amazing displays to entice our
students back to the Library next
term.
