Update from Karene Boos (Zeru Zeru Inc), around the treatment of people with albinism in Tanzania …

The BBC news out of Tanzania reported earlier just this week that 6 children with albinism were killed in southwest Tanzania (about 1000 miles from the center in Lamadi). https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-47030924.

these safe centers because it decreases the police burden to try to protect individuals with albinism who live in remote and scattered areas. Despite the success we have had, the issue is far from over. Thank you all again for your support of the work!

fourth Sunday in ordinary time ~ February 3, 2019

Dear Members of St. Thomas Aquinas: Last week started off propitiously enough: two brat fries on Sunday (Knights of Columbus at SJB and the annual Ushers’ Brat Fry at my former digs, St. Dominic’s in Sheboygan). Then things headed south. The snow cancelled schools and closed us down Monday, but by mid-afternoon the snow had stopped. The plows had come by my garage about 2:00, and I’d managed to dig out from that; but I was sure that they’d make at least one more swipe down the side streets before they were done. I was supposed to go to Jim and Dori Schmitz’s home for supper, but I didn’t want to take a chance on getting blocked out of my own driveway or blocked in at theirs. So, I called about 3:00 with every intention of re-scheduling when Jim offered to drive in to pick me up! It worked out wonderfully! I had a great time and a wonderful meal with them. Dori claims she’s not much of a cook. Don’t believe her! Jim dropped me off at home a little before 8:00. The plows came through again around 9:00, so I got my sec-ond round of shoveling exercise before the late news. Tuesday was supposed to be the day of Catholic Schools Week Mass for our county’s three Catholic schools at Holy Name of Jesus Church in Sheboygan. But even before the sun had risen, Amy Nelson (Principal at SJB) had e-mailed me with her concerns about driv-ing conditions and putting the kids on a school bus for the trip to Sheboygan, and we agreed to keep our children home. So, we had an impromptu Catholic Schools Week Mass of our own at SJB, After which I drove in to Sheboygan to represent SJB and STA at the Mass at Holy Name of Jesus with most of the other priests of the County and Bishop Jeff Haines, the principal celebrant. (I didn’t find the highway too bad, but I wasn’t driving a bus. And the streets in Plymouth were treacherous!) Tuesday was also scheduled to be the occasion of another long-awaited and eagerly anticipated event: a joint STA-SJB Pastoral Council meeting under the auspices of a delayed Christmas party with spouses/partners and our parishes’ staff members at which the only item of “business” (other than having a good time) was to have been an up-date from Eric and Karene Boos about ZeruZeru, Inc. and its accomplishments and plans for the near and long-range future. But because of the dangerous bone-chilling weather conditions forecasted for Tuesday night and Wednesday, we agreed that it would be best to postpone the event. Now we’re looking at a possibility of a Mardi Gras party on March 5th. School was called off for Wednesday and Thursday because of the extremely dangerously low temperatures and wind-chill conditions that were expected to continue through Noon on Thursday. The policy is: when the school is closed, the parish is closed, too. So, no Mass or office hours at SJB on Wednesday or Thursday. At STA, Chris Kammann worked from home on Wednesday, so other than the 8:00 a.m. Mass, things were pretty quiet church-wise in western Sheboygan County for much of last week. As I prepare this article on Tuesday, it is my understanding that we’re expecting rain over the weekend. Wow!!! Where’s it going to

go? And what will it do to road surfaces and driving conditions? Ahhh, got to love Winter in Wisconsin! Father Phil
