RADICAL TRANSFORMATION On this Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, the readings describe anything but an ordinary time. They are disturbing and they leave us disturbed. The Old Testament reading recounts a young man’s radical break with the past to follow a new path. The Gospel describes how life as we know it is abruptly changed if we follow the call of Christ. The psalm and Paul assure us that such life-altering change is possible only because of the power of God’s love. We are presented with a stark choice. To love as God loves, we must leave our old lives behind. We must leave behind not just the bad, the selfish, and the evil but the or-dinary, our daily work, and the important, our families, our lives. Loving as God loves requires a radical transformation, not a smooth transi-tion.

Adoration on this First Friday. We need people to sign up for an hour of adoration during the 12 hours. The sign-up sheet is on the parish bulletin board in the church hall. Please consider signing up for an hour to ensure we have every hour cov-ered, and hopefully by more than just one per-son per hour.

How do we know what vocation God is calling me to live? The answer sometimes is not so clear or easy to see. All of us have been called to live a particular vocation. It may the religious, married or single life. Regardless of our vocation, ALL of us are called to do the same, to love God through our vocation: by going to Mass, participating in the sacramental life of the Church and treating others with respect and charity. The readings this weekend call all of us to give ourselves completely to God and His Holy Church. It would not be fair to do half of our effort in a job or in a relationship with friends, family or in a marriage. In order for any relationship to work, we must give our maximum effort in making that relationship work. That is the message of the readings this weekend: to give ourselves completely, one hundred percent to God and His Holy Church. God gives Himself more that one hundred percent to all of us and we called to do the same in our lives. Let us continue to pray that God may give us the strength to give ourselves to God and His Holy Church so that we might be able to experience the fullness of His love and mercy. May God continue to bless all of us at St. Thomas in our families and vocations, Fr. Abel

ANUNCIOS DE LA PARROQUIA

En este Trigésimo Domingo del Tiempo Ordina-rio, las lecturas describen todo menos un tiempo ordinario. Son inquietantes y nos dejan preocu-pados. La lectura del Antiguo Testamento cuen-ta acerca de un joven que rompió radicalmente con el pasado para seguir un nuevo camino. El Evangelio describe cómo repentinamente cambia la vida que conocemos si seguimos la llamada de Cristo. El Salmo y Pablo nos aseguran que ese cambio de vida es posible solo a causa del poder del amor de Dios. Se nos presenta una dura elec-ción. Para amar como Dios ama, debemos dejar atrás a nuestras vidas antiguas. Debemos dejar atrás no solo lo malo, el egoísmo y el mal sino lo ordinario, nuestro trabajo diario y lo importante, nuestras familias, nuestras vidas. Amar con Dios ama requiere una transformación radical, no una transición tranquila.

En la Iglesia de Santo Tomás tenemos la Adoración del Santísimo Sacramento el viernes 5 de julio de 9am a 9pm. El Santísimo Sacramento estará expuesto en la custodia en el altar para Adora-ción y oración hasta las 10pm y la misa se celebrará a las 12pm en Ingles. Por favor venga y acompáñenos para la Adoración en este primer viernes. Invi-tamos que personas se registren para

una Hora Santa. La hoja de inscripción está en el table-ro de anuncios en el salón de la iglesia. Considere inscri-birse durante una hora para asegurarse de que tenga-mos por lo menos un adorador por hora, y si es posible más de una persona por hora.

¿Como conozco la vocación que Dios me ha llamado a vivir? La respuesta a veces no es muy simple o fácil. Todos hemos sido llamados a vivir una vocación particular. Ya sea como religiosos, matrimonio o solteros. Independientemente de nuestra vocación, TODOS somos llamados a amar a Dios por me-dio de nuestra vocación: asistiendo a misa, participando en la vida sacramental de la Iglesia y tratan-do a todos con respeto y caridad. Las lecturas de este fin de semana nos llaman a entregarnos por completo a Dios y a su santa Iglesia. No seria justo si solo pusiéramos medio empeño en nuestro tra-bajo, con nuestras amistades o en el matrimonio. En cualquier relación, necesitamos que entregar-nos a lo máximo para que la relación funcione. Ese es el mensaje de las lecturas este fin de semana: entregarnos completamente, cien por ciento a Dios y a su Santa Iglesia. Dios nos da mas de cien por ciento y nosotros somos llamados a hacer lo mismo en nuestras vidas. Hay que continuar rezando para que Dios nos de la fortaleza para entregarnos totalmente a Dios y su Santa Iglesia para que po-damos experimentar su amor y misericordia. When the days for Jesus' being taken up were fulfilled, he resolutely determined to journey to Jerusalem, and he sent messengers ahead of him. On the way they entered a Samaritan vil-lage to prepare for his reception there, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem. When the disci-ples James and John saw this they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?" Jesus turned and rebuked them, and they journeyed to another village. As they were proceeding on their journey some-one said to him, "I will follow you wherever you go." Jesus answered him, "Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head." And to another he said, "Follow me." But he re-plied, "Lord, let me go first and bury my father." But he answered him, "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." And another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home." Cuando ya se acercaba el tiempo en que tenía que salir de este mundo, Jesús tomó la firme deter-minación de emprender el viaje a Jerusalén. En-vió mensajeros por delante y ellos fueron a una aldea de Samaria para conseguirle alojamiento; pero los samaritanos no quisieron recibirlo, por-que supieron que iba a Jerusalén. Ante esta nega-tiva, sus discípulos Santiago y Juan le dijeron: "Señor, ¿quieres que hagamos bajar fuego del cielo para que acabe con ellos?" Pero Jesús se volvió hacia ellos y los reprendió. Después se fueron a otra aldea. Mientras iban de camino, alguien le dijo a Jesús: "Te seguiré a dondequiera que vayas". Jesús le respondió: "Las zorras tienen madrigueras y los pájaros, nidos; pero el Hijo del hombre no tiene en dónde recli-nar la cabeza". A otro, Jesús le dijo: "Sígueme". Pero él le res-pondió: "Señor, déjame ir primero a enterrar a mi padre". Jesús le replicó: "Deja que los muer-tos entierren a sus muertos. Tú ve y anuncia el Reino de Dios".
