“For the message of the cross is foolishness to
those who are perishing, but to us who are being
saved it is the power of God. For it is written: ‘I
will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelli-
gence of the intelligent I will frustrate.’ Where is
the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is
the philosopher of this age? Has not God made
foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the
wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did
not know him, God was pleased through the fool-
ishness of what was preached to save those who
believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and
Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ
crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolish-
ness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has
called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of
God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness
of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the
weakness of God is stronger than man’s
strength.” -1 Corinthians 1:18-25 (NIV)
The month of April is ushered in with practical
jokes, pranks, and all sorts of tricks. People hap-
pily do tremendous things to each other and then
say, “April Fool!” You can get away with a lot, if
you frame it as an April Fool’s Day joke. I don’t
know about you, but I don’t really like ending up
on the wrong side of an April Fool’s Day prank. I
can dish them out better than I can take them. I
can remember one April Fool’s Day when my dad
woke my sister and me up at 6:00am, gave us
breakfast, got us all ready for school, and then
told us it was actually … Saturday. April Fool!
It is fun for a day, but all throughout the rest of
the year, being perceived as a fool is a terrible
thing. No one wants to look foolish or be foolish.
We all want to be considered savvy, practical, and
wise. We wouldn’t want to be scrutinized and
end up labeled a fool.
There is, however, One for whom I am happy to
be called a fool. What a compliment it is to be
called a fool for Christ! When we believe whole-
heartedly in the cross of Jesus Christ for our sal-
vation and let our whole lives be impacted
by our faith, we are fools for Christ. When
we live differently than the rest of the
world because of Jesus, we are considered
foolish by the world’s standards.
Our faith may lead us to be called foolish
by nonbelievers. But this is God’s foolish-
ness. It is wiser than man’s wisdom. This
is the power of God and the wisdom of
God. The message of the cross is utter
nonsense – foolishness – to those who are
perishing. But to us who are being saved it
is the power of God! Hallelujah!
In Christ,
Pastor Cori

THE
STEWARDSHIP
CORNER
“GIVING”
Grace to you and Peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Amen! The question I have for each of us this month is how do you feel when you write out a check or give a donation to a charitable cause? God says He loves a cheerful giver! In 2 Corinthians 9:7 we hear, “Let each one give (thoughtfully and with purpose) just as he/she has decid-ed in his/her heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” So, what kinds of causes motivate you to want to be a cheerful giver? Hopefully supporting our church is on this list. As Christians we want God’s ministry to be able to reach out and touch the community. And of course, we all want the church to be there so we can share in the fellowship and friendship of the members at the weekly services and at important times in our lives like, baptisms, weddings, funerals, etc. What other causes come to mind for you? There are many, many causes that we can and should cheerfully consider. Some that come to mind are, Lutheran World Relief, the Food Pantry, ELCA - Disaster Relief Fund, ELCA – World Hunger, the NGL Synod Endowment Fund, the Fortune Lake Camp, our local Church Endowment Fund or Seminarian Fund. All of these are great causes that touch lives in a special way! Another cause that we feel strongly about is “World Vi-sion” and the support needed for children in poor coun-tries where AIDS is an epidemic. We have supported a child (Jacqueline), from Burundi, Africa, for several years. We recently received a thank you letter from her for a special financial gift we had sent to her in December. She gave us a full accounting of how every penny was used and the positive impact it will have on her life. The amount was not significant but what was significant was how much she was able to do with it in such a poor coun-try! We are so fortunate to live in the USA and be able to experience the abundance that this great country has to offer. My prayer is that all of us will recognize that we are privi-leged to live in a country where we are beyond the basis needs of food, water, shelter and clothing. Many aren’t there yet! Smile every time you choose to help a special cause that helps others! God Bless! Respectfully, Jerry Rasner Stewardship Committee Gethsemane Lutheran Church

SECOND SUNDAY FOLK DANCES
A Fun, Family, Musical Tradition
April 10th
The Second Sunday Folk Dance series celebrates its
31st year of great music. Set in the beautiful dance
hall at Fortune Lake Lutheran Camp this is one of the
Midwest’s most popular venues for folk music and
dance and is the largest, longest running event of its
kind. The Second Sunday Folk Dance presents great
musicians in an intimate setting. Dean and Bette
Premo (White Water) organize and host the series.
The event opens at 4:00 p.m. with a short opening set
by White Water. The featured guest act’s concert fol-
lows immediately. The second half of the event is de-
voted to dancing in many forms with music by the
Front Parlor Dance Band and dances taught by Bette
Premo and others. Refreshments are available at each
dance. The entertainment lasts till 7:00 p.m.. Admis-
sion for those over 15 is $7.00 and children 15 and
under are admitted free.
The music of Jack Williams, rooted in his native
South Carolina, was shaped by a 54 year career of
playing folk, rock, jazz, R&B, classical and the popu-
lar music of the 30s, 40s and 50s. Jack is an uncom-
monly unique guitarist, a writer of vivid songs with a
strong send of lace and a storyteller in an old South-
ern tradition who further illustrates each tale with his
guitar. Jack is back to the Second Sunday stage by
popular demand and you can hear his music at

GUIDING PRINCIPLES
1. We Believe in the Triune God who Leads
us. We believe in God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit to-
gether as one, who we trust will lead where He intends us to go, if we listen to His calling and allow him to even lead us where we may not want to go.
2. Through Prayer we Build a Relationship
with God. Prayer and listening to what God is telling us, is
most important and must be part of our Christian lives in order to know what God wants from us, and to build a lasting relationship with Him.
3. Spread God’s Word and Grow Disciples.
When we spread God’s Word, as the result of our work, we will grow disciples for God.
4. Everyone has gifts.
Each of us has gifts to offer. We don’t have to be ordained ministers or trained lay preachers to do God’s work. It’s not all about donating mon-ey to support ministries. Our time and our tal-ents are gifts that can be given to the world.
5. We are a Welcoming and Inviting church.
We are open to all who come to worship and receive God’s Word. We will invite all to experi-ence God’s Word. All are welcome, and wel-comed unconditionally the moment they walk through our door, no matter how “different” they are than we are.
