Dear Parishioners, It was of him that the prophet Isaiah had spoken when he said:

A voice of one crying out in the desert, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths.

If you re-read the sentence above given to us about John the Baptist by the prophet Isaiah, which word sticks out the most to you on this second Sunday of Advent. Would it be: a voice, the one, crying, preparing, Lord, his paths?

In September, our parish joined the Archdiocesan Capital Campaign to Teach Who Christ Is, and I was very nervous because I have never in my life done a capital campaign. I hoped, like the first Advent candle of hope that we lit last week, that we will reach our goal before Christmas. Today, almost 2 weeks before Christmas, together with the committee members we are like voices of many crying out for help once again. We thought that the preparation for the new church design would spark a lot of joy and enthusiasm of which you heard from many parishioners giving a true wit-ness of love and dedication for our parish. Can we as one prepare the best gift to God? Not for me, not for Mary, Mark, John or Theresa but for the LORD who will soon and again come to us?

I want to again sincerely thank everyone who so generously gave and supported our campaign with financial, passionate, and prayerful spirit so far. The raised amount as of today is slightly over $500,000, our parish goal is $615,000. Each and every gift counts. Every prayer will be heard. Anything, no matter how small that we sacrifice today will be multi-plied in the presence of our Lord when He will ask: what kind of gift you prepared for me. In the light of our second candle of Advent, which we call preparation, may God bless and prepare our hearts for His coming.

Do niego to odnosi się słowo proroka Izajasza, gdy mówi: Głos wołającego na pustyni: Przygotujcie drogę Panu, prostujcie ścieżki dla Niego.

Jeśli ponownie przeczytacie powyższe zdanie o Janie Chrzcicielu dane nam przez proroka Izajasza, które ze słów najwięcej docierają do Ciebie w tą drugą niedzielę Adwentu. Czy to: głos wołającego, przygotujcie Panu, prostujcie ścieżki?

We wrześniu nasza parafia rozpoczęła Archidiecezjalną kampanię Uczyć Kim Jest Chrystus. Byłem bardzo zaniepokojony, bo nigdy w życiu nie prowadziłem takiej kampani. Miałem nadzieję, podobnie jak to pierwsza świeca nadziei którą zapililiśmy w ubiegłym tygodniu, że osiągniemy nasz cel przed świętami Bożego Narodzenia. Dzisiaj, prawie dwa tygodnie przed Bożym Narodzeniem, z członkami komitetu znowu jesteśmy jak głosy wielu wołających o pomoc. Myśleliśmy, że przygotowania do nowego projektu kościoła wywołają wiele radości i entuzjazmu o których słyszałem od wielu parafian dających świadectwo o prawdziwej miłości i poświęceniu się dla naszej parafii. Czy możemy, zjednoczeni razem, przygotować najlepszy prezent dla Boga? Nie dla mnie, nie dla Marii, Marka, Jana i Teresy, ale dla Pana, który wkrótce i znowu przyjdzie do nas?

Pragnę jeszcze raz serdecznie podziękować wszystkim, którzy do tej pory tak hojnie wsparli naszą kampanię finansowo, z pasją i z modlitewnym duchem. Zadeklarowana kwota na dzień dzisiejszy to nieco ponad $500.000, naszym celem jest $615.000. Liczy się każda ofiara. Każda modlitwa będzie wysłuchana. Cokolwiek, nie ważne jak małe, które poświęcimy dzisiaj, zostanie pomnożone w obecności naszego Pana, kiedy On zapyta: jaki prezent przygotowałeś dla mnie.

W świetle naszej drugiej świecy Adwentu, którą nazywamy przygotowanie, niech Bóg nam błogosławi i przygotuje nasze serca na Jego przyjście. Ks. Krzysztof

December 2016 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

Reflecting on the fruits of the Year of Mercy, many of us can recall the example of thousands of now elderly women and men religious who, for so many, were a living sign of God’s mercy. These women and men—Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests—were indeed the hands of Christ as they educated the young, cared for the sick, and ministered to the neediest among us. Through their service, sacrifice and witness, they modeled the compassionate love of Jesus and showed us that we, too, could be instruments of peace and mercy.

Today, many senior religious continue to be vessels of mercy, serving in a wide range of volunteer and prayer ministries. Others are frail and need assistance. Most older religious ministered for small stipends, leaving a substantial gap in retire-ment savings. With the everrising cost of health care and the increased number of those needing care, many religious communities struggle to provide for aging members. On December 10-11, your parish will be conducting its appeal for the Retirement Fund for Religious, an annual collection that benefits nearly 33,000 senior sisters, brothers, and religious order priests. Your gift provides vital support for medications, nursing care, and more. It also helps religious communities imple-ment long-term retirement strategies that ensure both quality eldercare and continued service to the People of God.

The people of the Archdiocese of Chicago have always led the nation in their generous response to this appeal. As not only a matter of justice to care for their needs, but also in thanksgiving for the lessons of mercy senior religious have shared with us, please join me in supporting the Retirement Fund for Religious. W ramach refleksji dokonywanych nad owocami Roku Miłosierdzia widzimy, że liczni spośród nas pamiętają przykłady tysięcy sióstr zakonnych i zakonników. Obecnie są oni starszymi kobietami i mężczyznami, którzy w przeszłości byli dla wielu żywymi znakami Bożego miłosierdzia. Te kobiety i ci mężczyźni – siostry zakonne, bracia zakonni i ojcowie – byli istotnie rękoma Chrystusa, kiedy nauczali młodych, opiekowali się chorymi i udzielali opieki duszpasterskiej najbardziej potrzebu-jącym spośród nas. Dzięki swej służbie, ofierze i świadectwu dawali przykład współczującej miłości Jezusa. Pokazali nam, że także i my możemy być narzędziami pokoju i miłosierdzia.

Dziś, wiele spośród emerytowanych osób zakonnych wciąż jest kanałami miłosierdzia, służąc jako wolontariusze w licznych i różnorodnych inicjatywach. Inni spośród nich są słabi i wymagają opieki. Najstarsi z nich pobierali niskie wynagrodzenia, co spowodowało powstanie dużych braków w oszczędnościach emerytalnych. W związku z ciągłym wzrostem kosztów opieki zdrowotnej i wzrastającą liczbą potrzebujących, wiele zgromadzeń zakonnych wciąż boryka się z trudnościami w zapewnieniu bytu swym starzejącym się wspólnotom. W dniach 10 i 11 grudnia w Waszej parafii odbędzie się kolekta na rzecz Funduszu Emerytalnego Osób Zakonnych. Jest to doroczna zbiórka, z której skorzysta 33,000 emerytowanych zakonnic i zakonników. Wasza ofiara znacznie pomoże w zakupie lekarstw, w pokryciu kosztów opieki pielęgniarskiej i wielu innych kwestiach. Ponadto, pomoże wspólnotom zakonnym we wprowadzeniu długoterminowych planów emerytalnych zapewni-ających dobrą jakość opieki nad starszymi jak i możliwość kontynuowania przez nich służby wiernym.

Mieszańcy Archidiecezji Chicago zawsze prowadzili naród w hojności okazywanej na rzecz tej kolekty. Proszę, abyście wraz ze mną okazali wsparcie na rzecz Funduszu Emerytalnego Osób Zakonnych. Question: On many Sundays, especially

during Advent and Lent, we hear a reading from one of the prophets. What is significant about them for

us? Didn't Jesus fulfill all their predictions?

Answer:

Lent and Advent are the times of the church year when the prophetic word forms an

important part of the liturgical season. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Baruch, and Zephaniah are just some of

the prophets who offer powerful and essential lessons for

Christians of any era. Prophets do not predict the future; they are very much concerned about the present, calling Israel to follow

once again the word of God.

The prophets speak on behalf of God. All of them testify that the word spoken is not from them,

but from God. This lands them in trouble, at times, with their

audience. People did not like the message because of their sinful lives and their displeasure was

taken out on the prophets. While tempted at times to throw in the

towel, the prophets remained true to the life of faith and

persevered in the proclamation of God's word. In modeling these virtues and calling us to greater fidelity, the prophets offer an

example and message that are still important to us today.
