The Wedding at Cana
It is right for you to give glory in eve-
ry way to Jesus Christ who has given glory to
you; you must be made holy in all things by
being united in perfect obedience to Christ.
Today we see that the celebration of the
Wedding of Canaan is a celebration for all
humanity. It is the first of the miracles that
Christ performed in his ministry. All of us
have a reason to rejoice today, precisely be-
cause God is going to “espouse” us in this
life: our Baptism is the white wedding gar-
ment inviting us to participate at the banquet
of eternal life. This is how we are supposed
to live this time of exile, which is called
“life:” seeking the Lord with all our hearts,
with all our mind and with all our strength.
This is not an impossible goal: we have re-
ceived the Holy Spirit at Baptism and Confir-
mation. Then, through this Gospel, our Sav-
ior shows us that he is going to give us the
wine of gladness too, sign of the New Cove-
nant. The Creator wants to identify himself
with his creature, as if mankind would be in-
tegral part of him. A total communion with
Him is what God desires for us. This is why
Jesus, in a certain way, makes a statement
through this miracle: He transforms ordinary
water (which is our flat and many times bitter
life…) into wine, symbol of the eternal glad-
ness of the New Covenant.

San
