    Don Antonio's Dispatch…

This week we have two well-known saints: St. Patrick and St. Joseph. St. Patrick is celebrated on 17 March, especially by the Irish, but many people claim that they’re “Irish” on that day. St. Michael Catholic Church has the traditional St. Patrick’s Day Mass and celebration afterwards. While it’s almost celebrated like a national holiday (without paid time off), in the Church, unless the church is dedicated to St. Patrick, it’s a commemoration, or the lowest level of celebration in the Church’s liturgy. There’s nothing wrong with celebrating St. Patrick, even perhaps with a Guinness or two (drink responsibly!), but St. Patrick was committed to spreading the Gospel, and so a great way to honor St. Patrick is to invite someone to come to Mass with you. The other saint is St. Joseph, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Foster-Father of our Lord, Jesus Christ. We don’t hear that much about St. Joseph from the Scriptures, except that he was a just man, a carpenter, and responded to God’s will as it became known to him. I have a devotion to St. Joseph, and I’ve been praying a novena to him, especially for our school families and staff. St. Joseph is a solemnity, the highest rank of celebration in the Church’s liturgy, so it’s a great excuse to do something extra to honor St. Joseph.

Here’s our Catechism quote for the week:

“‘If you knew the gift of God!’ The wonder of prayer is revealed beside the well where we come seeking water: there, Christ comes to meet every human being. It is he who first seeks us and asks us for a drink. Jesus thirsts; his asking arises from the depths of God’s desire for us. Whether we realize it or not, prayer is the encounter of God’s thirst with ours. God thirsts that we may thirst for him.” (n. 2560)

together to push us over goal for the benefit of our parish and the wider church. No gift is too small….remember, 50% of all contributions, in excess of our parish goal, will come back to our parish for local use.

This school year has brought some new and exciting opportunities for our school. Our students have the chance to learn computer coding. The online coding class includes interacting with robots virtually, as well as robots they work with in the classroom. The course allows students to work at their own pace. The content includes lessons on action, logic, variable functions and writing JavaScript. Students are engaged and excited to learn more every day. One student shared that he enjoys the challenge of the course. Other students stated that using robots in real life is fun. Our Chargers are changing the world! Please continue to keep our students, parents and families in your prayers. God Bless SPX! Brian Sheeran Principal , St. Pius X www.spxchargers.org

    “And sing the love amazing…”

There is not a more hard working or more dedicated choir in the City of Flint than at St. Pius X Church. The "Pius people" love to sing! One of the icons in our sanctuary is of St. Augustine who wrote, "For he who sings praise, does not only praise, but also praises joyously; he who sings praise, is not only singing, but also loving Jesus whom he is singing about/to/for." Every Sunday, I am reminded about this.
