The last six weeks have been a very hectic time for our parish, its staff and volunteers. We have moved from one big celebration to the next with our usual sense of style, grace and good humor. We have done an enormous amount of work in a very short period of time. We have been busy celebrating beginnings, middles and ends all month. We have had parties, meals, receptions and farewells. Our parish staff has been stretched to the limits of their patience, imagination and energy by the many wonderful events and happenings that are a part of our life at this time of year. We are panting from the sprint we have run. Our bodies are tired, our minds are numb we cannot really think of one more idea and the strain of life just seems overwhelming at times. Then it happens. School is out and so is the sun and the world seems to take a deep breath. Even though almost all of us will continue to work our regular schedules, there is a palpable change coming over us. Summer vacation feels more relaxed and simple. I find myself taking sneaky breaks. I who do not like the outdoors all that much, find that sitting in the backyard for ten minutes at the end of the day is just what I needed. I find myself going outside to pray Evening Prayer and walking more slowly across the parking lot just to enjoy the day. Summer vacation reminds me that God is good, gracious and patient with my cantankerous moods, restless need to do something and stubborn insistence on being over-occupied with some or anything. Perhaps the beginning of summer vacation is God’s way of reminding us that it is his world and his Church. He reminds us that time is not measured by hours and seconds, but in generous and gracious moments. I know that the Gospel by the Grill gatherings in my backyard feel right for this time of year. We have a little food, some prayer, time to hear God’s Word and the time to try to figure it out together. Perhaps summer is the time to remember that when we slow down a bit, God might have a few ideas for us to ponder. In the midst of our hectic lives God says hold on a minute. Take a breath and notice that I have surrounded you with graciousness and mercy. I have no idea of what to write this week, but maybe that is God’s point. F r . T o n y S t u b e d a ST. I Have No Idea

I have been puzzling about what to write about this week. I made a round of the staff to see if I could find ideas for the front of the bulletin, but was not able to get any ideas from anybody. You probably are all falling out of your chairs laughing at the idea of me not having anything to talk about, so I am pausing in my imagination to let you get up off of the floor.

I who do not like the outdoors all

that much, find that sitting in the backyard for ten minutes at the end of the day is just what I needed.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NOTES

REGISTRATION FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION 2010-2011:

Last week we made a push for registration for next year’s religious education programs. We thank those of you who have registered already, and ask those who have not registered to do so as soon as possible. If you need assistance, please contact Carla Bass at the parish office. As was stated in the letter that accompanied registration materials, you need not pay your total registration fee at this time. We would like you to register, so that we can begin planning our program for next year. If you have misplaced the

registration form, there are additional forms available in the kiosk

in the Gathering Space.

GOSPEL BY THE GRILL ON WEDNESDAY: On Wednesday we continue Gospel by the Grill Bible study after the 6:00 PM Mass. Everyone who would like to participate in the study comes to Fr. Tony’s backyard. Each person brings their own meat to grill and something to share with others. After we have supper we spend the rest of the evening reading, discussing and studying the readings for the next Sunday. Please bring your own Bible, beverage and a chair.

MAY HE REST IN PEACE: Our parish family extends its sympathy and prayers to the family and friends of Scott Coates who died last week. May he rejoice at God’s right hand in heaven.

CCW BRAT STAND: On July 9, 10, 11 our CCW will be having the Brat stand at Coborn’s. A Work Schedule is posted on the bulletin board in the Gathering Space. Please sign up for the time and day you wish to work. You may contact

Marie Mochinski at 320-282-3011 with any questions or concerns.

CATHOLIC VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL THIS WEEK:

Please keep the coordinators, planners, volunteers and participants in Catholic Vacation Bible School in your prayers as they gather each morning this week to deepen their love of Christ and knowledge of the riches of our faith. They will be participating in Mass each day this week, and on Friday will be having a period of Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction at 10:30 AM. Their projects and artwork will be on display in the Gathering Space of the Church throughout next weekend.

SERVER TRAINING ON TUESDAY: The last session of server training will be on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 PM. Those who need make-up sessions will be contacted by Fr. Tony to set up another training time.

THANK YOU: The family of Harold Matousek thanks the CCW for their ministry to their family at the time of Harold’s death, and they thank all those who brought food to the funeral dinner.

THANK YOU FOR WONDERFUL CELEBRATIONS: The parish community thanks the parish and school staff and faculty members who helped us celebrate our volunteers last Monday and helped host the Anointing Mass brunch on Wednesday.

CCW RUMMAGE SALE COMING: The CCW rummage sale and flea market is coming soon—July 29 and 30. It’s time to clean out the closets and go through the kid’s stuff. Plan now

to donate your unused items to a worthy cause. Not only do we need your donations, but we also need your help. Sign-up sheets are now in the Gathering Space with plenty of opportunities. Many hands make for light work, and we have

fun too!! Drop off times and dates will be listed in upcoming bulletins. More dates and times have been added for your convenience. We hope to see you there!

ANOTHER RETREAT OPPORTUNITY: A special silent retreat for men and women will be held at Christ the King Retreat Center in Buffalo, MN July 23-25, 2010. The retreat begins on Friday, July 23 at 7:00 PM and concludes on Sunday, July 25 at 12:45 PM. The retreat will be conducted by Fr. Matthew Linn, SJ. The theme of the retreat is: “How to deal

with a prickly porcupine”. This retreat will focus on dealing with difficult people in our lives. Members of this parish are cordially invited to a beautiful, inexpensive, lakeside weekend of wonderful relaxation and spiritual rejuvenation. Please call: (763) 682-1394 for a registration form and more information.

For more information:Please contact:Christ the King Retreat Center621 First Avenue SouthBuffalo, MN 55313www.kingshouse,come-mail: christtheking@kingshouse,com.

CEMETERY NOTICE: We ask that all flowers which are on the cemetery and NOT ON THE GRAVE STONE be removed by Wednesday, June 30. Removing such plants and flowers makes it much easier to keep the cemetery looking neat and respectful.

THE NEW ROMAN MISSAL: Today’s Gospel is a vivid reminder of the importance of responding to the love of Christ, whether we consider ourselves saints or sinners. When we gather for worship we respond to the sacrifice of Christ not only out of obligation, but out of love. The woman brought oil as an offering to Jesus. We offer our gifts of bread and wine, “the fruit of the vine and work of human hands” as a symbol of our willingness to be reconciled with God. This small but not insignificant ritual of the Mass is a holy exchange that affords us the opportunity to respond to the gifts that God has placed into our hands.

Monthly Newsletter of the Glencoe Knights of Columbus St. Christopher Council #4842

Messages from the Grand Knight

As the KC fraternal year comes to a close,I wish to thank all the Knights (and their families) for all their help, commitment, and dedication to the KC principles of fraternity, charity, unity, and patriotism. The past year would have been a lot more difficult withoutthe constant willingness of our members to put those principles into practice.

* * * *And, unbeknownst to me, at least two of our members (and maybe more) have been ac-tively promoting a statewide project of the KC’s. Dave Heintz and Gus Makovsky have been collecting the names and addresses ofmilitary personnel, sending the info to the KC State Chaplain, Fr. Maciej (Ma-chee), and requesting him to bless a St. Michael Medallion, and to forward it to the military personnel to wear. By the way, those military personnel do NOT need to be KC members nor family members of KCs. So, if anybody is aware of someone in the military that could use the added protection of St. Michael, feel free to call Gus or Dave for the address of the State Chaplain. There is no specified cost for this service but, of course, a freewill donation sent with your request would be appreciated (used to cover costs).

* * * *And let us not forget Jason Jacques. The KC project of supplying ‘care packages’ to the military (usually about Christmas time) is not necessarily ‘below the radar’ but is equally important. For several years now,he has been coordinator/chairperson for this project. So, if you aware of military personnel that could use a ‘care package,’ or have a suggestion for something to include in such packages, or would like to help Jason in the preparation and mailing of same, please feel free to call him. Thanks! Newsletter submitted by GK Dennis Reiter
