Taking Faith Home

This year for our school devotions and chapel we are using a resource

called 'Taking Faith Home' (TFH). This resource is based around

scripture readings over a week that many different Christian churches

use here in Australia and indeed around the world (commonly referred to as the Lectionary). Each week there is a verse of the week which in

essence sets the theme for the week. This verse and theme will be used

in various ways here at school. As a staff we might reflect on the theme

for our daily morning devotions. Teachers will use it in their classes

during the week as part of their devotion cycle. Most weeks the

devotional thought on the front page of the newsletter will also be

based on this verse and/or theme. This then will culminate in what Ps

Ben will share at chapel each Friday. Having said all that we will not

solely use the TFH material and we will do other things from time to

time but it is intended to be the backbone of our devotional programme

at St Peters. In order for families to engage in this too we intend to

attach the following weeks' TFH weekly resource to the newsletter (ie

what you see in today's newsletter will be next week's focus). You

might like to use it as part of your own family's devotion time, discuss

the theme with your kids, do the daily reading yourself, try out some of

the activities with your children or just be aware of what it is that we

are focussing on for the week. Hopefully, having this common

thread, we will enrich our understanding of God's message to us as we

immerse ourselves in his word. I trust that this might be a blessing to

our whole community.

And a cloud came and overshadowed them; and a voice came

out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son. Hear Him!”

St Peters Lutheran School Directory

The St Peters Lutheran P & F is collating a whole school directory to be distributed within the school

community. If you wish to be included in the school directory, please fill out the appropriate contact sheet

provided in each classroom. Your inclusion into the school directory is voluntary. Please only fill in

details that you are happy to be published to the wider school community. Contact sheets will be

available in the classrooms until tomorrow, Friday 13th February 2015. Alternatively you can also email

any details you wish to be included in the directory to [email protected]

Twilight Tea

Don’t forget our annual Twilight Tea scheduled for next Friday 20th February 2015 from 5pm at the school.

This informal event is an important gathering in our school social calendar, providing a great opportunity to

reacquaint with other school families and meet new families who have joined our school community. Please see

the attached notice for all the exciting details. Meal order forms must be returned to the school with the

correct money by tomorrow Friday 13th February.

Tickets are now available for our fundraiser at ‘The Beachouse’ on Thursday 5th March from 6pm –

8pm.

A ticket for this exclusive “lock in” for St Peters students past and present, families and their friends includes

unlimited use of the heated waterslides, dodgem cars, bumper boats, mini golf, arcade games, carousel, train

and play castle rides (excludes prize and ticket games).

Tickets are only $24.50 per person (normally $30). Please note – due to a recent change in policy by

‘The Beachouse’ all persons entering the venue need to have a ticket. We will need some willing

parent volunteers who are able to help at the event. The Beachouse staff are responsible for all participants

and thus parents are not required to stay, however volunteers will help supervise all children within the venue

and as such are unable to participate in games or rides. Please contact Nicky Hart on 0402422832 if you are

able to help. A supervisor’s entry fee is complimentary.

Tickets are available via the internet on ‘sticky tickets’ via VISA, Mastercard or American

Express (2.5% surcharge for AMEX). Please visit https://www.stickytickets.com.au/23901 to purchase

your tickets. Please purchase your tickets online, print them out and bring them with you on the night. Please

invite all your families and friends to come and join in the fun!

This Friday 13th February is Ice Block Day. Beat the heat and

bring $1 to school on Friday to get an ice block at lunch time.

IB Learners

IB Learner Profile

Primary Years Programme (PYP)

The beginning of the year is a great chance to start a new. Thank

you to those who made it to the PYP information session on the

Classroom Orientation Evening.

The session provided information about our up and coming

Evaluation, impressions and benefits of the PYP curriculum and an

explanation of transdisciplinary and inquiry learning. To conclude we

answered the question: What does an IB parent do? Here is what we came up with!

An IB parent:

reads newsletters and school publications;

uses the Learner Profile language at home;

encourages students to ask questions and asks questions;

asks the children about their learning and encourages action;

provides rich experiences;

models that you are a learner too;

shares their culture/family history;

volunteers in the classroom;

shares experiences, skills, knowledge;

knows the units their child is inquiring into in the classroom.

One important aspect of teaching in an IB school is the emphasis on being lifelong learners.

During the holidays, many of our staff took part in the IB Regional workshops here in

Adelaide at PAC. The 3 day conference gave staff an opportunity to meet other staff from IB

schools worldwide, gather new information and build their understanding of the programme.

We had staff members attend the Pedagogical Leadership in the Early Years, Play in the Early

Years, Making the PYP Happen and Encouraging Children's Creative Instincts in the

Classroom.

Throughout our beginning days, we shared with each other all our new ideas and ensured

that we have a plan of action to consolidate what was learnt.

If you have any questions regarding the Primary Years Programme, which is the curriculum

here at St Peters, please feel free to make a time to see me. I am available Monday,

Wednesday and Thursday before or after school. Or feel free to email me with any queries

on [email protected]

Bronwyn Wilson

PYP Coordinator

From Monday to Wednesday this week, we had a visit from the Life Education Caravan.

Body parts (mainly hearts and lungs)—Rooms 9 and 10

Relationships, food and physical exercise—Rooms 5 and 6

Peer influence and cyber safety—Rooms 1 and 2

Working Bee

Our first working bee for 2015 will be held next

Saturday 21 February.

Families from Rooms 9 and 10 are rostered on for

this working bee and will soon receive a reply slip

via your child. Please ensure you return these to

the school office by next Thursday 19 February.

There will be a number of general maintenance jobs

lined up for this working bee. Useful tools to bring

include gardening gloves, wheelbarrows, yard

brooms, cobweb brooms, shovels, spades, rakes,

pruning shears and secateurs.

Those of you who are attending will need to sign in

on the day for insurance purposes and so that your

name does not reappear on the working bee roster

for another term.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Installation and

Re-dedication Service

On Sunday our St Peters community officially

installed and welcomed our new staff for 2015.

Ms Karen Noble, Mrs Megan Thomas, Miss Abby

Zimmermann and Mrs Kelly Kroeger were

commissioned for service into our school by

Pastor Ben at Sunday worship. We are certainly

excited to have these wonderful new people as

part of our community.

At the service all staff and school council were also

re-dedicated by Pastor Ben for a new year of work

here at St Peters. It was terrific to have church

members, staff, school parents and children

together for this important event (and morning tea

was delicious).

Thanks to Ps Ben and staff who were involved in

readings, prayers and leading music as part of our

worship service.

SPLOSHC Corner

We are beginning 2015 with a new team member,

Hayley. So if you see a new face, don’t hesitate

saying hello. Natalie will be continuing on as

director and Tawny as the other educator. James

has moved on to his career as a teacher and we

wish him lots of luck.

We had a huge couple of weeks during vacation

care with a magician and ‘Science Guy’ visiting.

The magician was very funny, and even made a

white bunny appear! So clever. The Science Guy

did a nitrogen program, where he made giant

bubbles, clouds and some ice cream for us. Some

of the children were asked to go up and help with

different things, and some of them got a bit wet...

luckily it was a warm day.

If you haven’t already organised a booking form,

please do that as soon as possible and there are

some hats looking for their owners in the

SPLOSHC room.

Thank you

Principal’s Tour

Our first Principal’s Tour for 2015 will be held at

9am next Wednesday 18 February. If you know of

anyone looking for a school or Early Learning

Centre in this area, please encourage them to

contact the school to book a place on this tour.

Sibling Enrolments

A reminder to parents of siblings to please ensure

you have completed and submitted to the office an

Application for Enrolment form for your child,

along with the $50 application fee, even if the ELC

or school enrolment relates to future years. This

is an important part of our enrolment process for

siblings and greatly assists us in our future planning.

We want to do the best we can to ensure that

there are places for siblings.

Thank you.

Volunteers at St Peters—National Police Check

All volunteers must provide evidence that they have obtained a criminal history report through

SA Police (SAPOL).

To obtain a National Police Clearance, volunteers need to complete a National Police Check Application form

(available from the SAPOL website: www.police.sa.gov.au or in hard copy from the school office).

Applicants should then attend a police station in person with the completed application form, 100 points of

original identification (ID) documents and a photocopy of their ID documents for certification. (Accepted ID and

point values are included on page 2 of the application form under the Proof of Identity section.)

Volunteers at St Peters Lutheran School qualify for a free police check under the VOAN (Volunteer

Organisation Authority Number) scheme, so must return the completed application form and certified ID to

the school office for completion of the VOAN section (on page 2) and approval by the Principal (St Peters

Lutheran School’s Authorised Officer).

The school will then forward the authorised application form direct to the Records Release Unit of SA Police.

Certificates will be issued direct to the applicant. The standard timeframe to process a NPC is between 5-15

working days.

Following receipt of a National Police Certificate, volunteers should present the certificate to school for

sighting by the Principal and recording in the school’s National Police Certificate Register and on the electronic

database.

National Police Certificates are valid for three years from the date of the certificate.

Please note—any queries regarding these requirements for Volunteers should be referred to the

Principal, via the front office staff.
