Mr. T. Jayapal Reddy, Dr. Rao Vadlamudi

and Dr. Suresh Bandari attended the 18th

annual convention of APTI held at Vikas In-

stitute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Rajah-

mundry. Dr. Suresh was the Chairman of

Venue Committee of LOC. Mr. Srikanth of

SPIPS, provided audio and visual support to

the programme. Dr. Rao Vadlamudi spoke in

the symposium on the theme of the conven-

tion on the topic "Strategies to enhance

Pharmacy Education and Research to meet

Global Challenges" .

Indian Association of Colleges of Pharmacy

(IACP) in association with St. Peter’s Institute

of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Hanamkonda

and 26 pharmacy institutions in the state of

Andhra Pradesh jointly organized “Pharmacy

Practice Module “Advanced Learning Series-

6” on October 6-8, 2013, at Hotel Daspalla,

Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India. This

Pharmacy Practice Module “Advanced Learn-

ing Series-6” was inaugurated by Prof.

Krishna Kumar, Howard University, Wash-

ington DC, USA in the presence of Prof. T. V.

Narayana, Secretary, Indian Pharmaceutical

Congress Association, Dr. B. Jayakar,

Treasurer, IACP, Mr. T. Jayapal Reddy,

Chairman, St. Peter’s Institute of Pharma-

ceutical Sciences, President AP Pharmacy

Private Colleges Association, Dr. Amy Ken-

nedy, Assistant Professor at University of

Arizona, Tucson, AZ, USA, Mr. Malla Reddy,

Dr. Ram Das, Mr. PanduRanga Reddy, Dr.

Rao Vadlamudi and Dr. Suresh Bandari,

Scientific Co-ordidinator and Principal St.

Peter’s Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences

and various college managements and prin-

cipals.

On day 1, Prof. Krishna Kumar,

School of Pharmacy, Howard University,

Washington DC, USA accentuated the im-

portance of therapeutic drug monitoring in

pediatric population with special emphasis

on the problems associated with the usage

of amino glycosides along with the factors

affecting their disposition. He has also dis-

cussed the significance of dosing in neo-

nates and pharmacokinetics of pediatric

population.

On day 2, Dr. Amy Kennedy, professor

in pharmacy practice & science at university

of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, USA made her

presence laudable and very informative

through her session on diabetes with special

focus on assessment and monitoring of dia-

betes control, treatment and complications.

Later she elaborately explained pediatric im-

On day 3, Dr. Hanna Phan, professor in pharmacy practice and science at the Uni-

versity of Arizona, Tucson, Arizona, USA explained about pharmacokinetics and pharma-

codynamics in pediatric patients with assessment as a pharmacist in vital signs, labora-

tory values in pediatric respiratory infections. She also addressed on the assessment

strategies to be applied by a pharmacist in the control of pediatric asthma. Dr. Mary

Babico, Pharm. D., Pharmacy Resident of College of Pharmacy, University of Arizona, Tuc-

son, USA enlightened about pharmacy residency training in pediatric specialty, board cer-

tification and eligibility.

All the three speakers emphasized on the importance of pharmacist at patient bed-

side to improve overall compliance and outcomes. Highly enthusiastic students and dele-

gates were enthralled by these sessions and applauded the IACP and the organizers for

conducting such useful sessions. Dr. Rao Vadlamudi, Mr. T. Jayapal Reddy, and Dr.

Suresh Bandari, felicitated the speakers. There was an immense response from the faculty

and Pharm. D. students from around 20 colleges across the state and other states as well.

This module was a huge success because of the collective effort of the organizing commit-

tees, resource persons, conveners, patrons and the delegates.

An invited lecture on the “Role of Drugs In-

spector under Drugs & Cosmetics Act in

Health Care System” was delivered by Dr. A.

Ramkishan, Deputy Drugs Controller (India),

Central Drugs Standard Control Organiza-

tion, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare,

Govt. of India on Oct 31, 2013 at the St. Pe-

ters Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences,

Vidyanagar, Hanamkonda, Warangal, under

the auspices of the Indian Pharmaceutical

Association, Hanamkonda Branch.

Dr. Ramkishan addressed students and fac-

ulty and provided a deeper insight in to vari-

ous aspects of the role of Drugs Inspector in

the health care system. He touched upon the

constitution of the Ministry of Health & Fam-

ily Welfare, Govt. of India and role of regula-

tors in the detection of misbranded and spu-

rious drugs for quality of life.

He accentuated the change of regulatory

scenario in India in the near future and also

brought to light the financial growth in the

field of both bulk drug manufacture and for-

mulation development under global scenario

and India’s share in the global market. He

addressed the students especially with re-

gard to the scope of regulatory jobs and the

necessary requirements to fetch a job in the

present competitive world. He expressed his

happiness to be in St. Peter’s Institute in

Hanamkonda. The motivating and informa-

tive session by Dr Ramkishan was well ap-

preciated by the audience. The function

ended with a felicitation of Dr. Ramkishan,

by Dr. Rao Vadlamudi, Director, and Dr.

Suresh Bandari, Principal, SPIPS and Secre-

tary of IPA Hanamkonda Local Branch.
