LET US PRAY FOR
OUR PARISHIONERS
We have been asked to pray for two of our parishioners,
Ted Xerri and Wagiena Araugo as, at this time, are both quite ill.
Mission Statement
We as a missionary community of faith, reflect
upon the gospel values of Christ according to the
teaching and tradition of the Roman Catholic
Church.
Our mission is to follow Christ by sharing our gifts
of time, talent and dedication to one another by
imitating Him, St. Paul and our founder
Mgr. Joseph De Piro, giving Christian witness to
our faith through our everyday lives in community.

Hail Him! Nail Him! “Behold the World’s gone after Him. (Jn. 12:19)
Jesus is making his triumphal entry into the city of
Jerusalem. It’s a remarkable event recorded by all four
Gospels. It’s quite unlike anything else recorded in
the New Testament.
When we talk about Jesus, there’s always something
that can amaze us, grip our attention and takes us by
surprise too. According to the letter of St. Paul to the
Philippians (2:8) He “humbled himself”, “took the
form of a slave.” (Ph. 2:7), “Emptying oneself.” This is
real proof that Jesus could not humble himself
completely unless being humiliated. Humility is based
on emptying oneself; and that is humiliation. Opposite
to Christ’s way of degrading himself, hiding himself
away from being the star of attraction – by being in
the limelight, we find the way of the world always
interested in vanity, pride and success.
This difference in thinking and acting besides
witnessing, has many times created a dissettlement, a
vacuum, or utopia. People are being hypnotized by the
naivety, euphoria, and the unimaginable, perhaps im-
possible way of presenting things, and that creates
emptiness, hollowness and illusion. Jesus rejected this
way completely. He shunned everything that was
going to keep Him away from the agony and ecstasy
of His people. Thanks to the oneness of Jesus with
this community of love, many people today, in their
silence and hiddenness, sacrifice themselves daily to
serve others, such as a sick relative, an elderly person
living alone, or a disabled person. These are the
martyrs of our time who refuse to deny Jesus, endure
insult and injury with dignity.
These are humble people, mature enough to remain
committed and, in the face of indifference, injustice,
persecution, and exploitation to resume with their
PALM SUNDAY - Year C
work and duty; never afraid of
losing their job, being treated as
rubbish, or ignored. Why? They
know what Christ Himself
taught and witnessed to them. They know that He is
the real truth, the way and the life, and so they are
always prepared for the unexpected.
What about us in the parish, and the Church in
general? We have so many devoted people who
through their good Christian witnessing are not only
helping themselves spiritually, but also helping others
to wake up to Christ’s call and walk along, walk the
talk, listen, and with good observance of what they
learn every day, they proceed with their daily spiritual
progress to recognize Christ in others. These people
know the signs of the times and so, they are not con-
fused when everything looks gloomy. They remain
always alert because they know that the One that
they follow everyday, is their Rock of Salvation and
their Anchor of Hope.
You who feel that you don’t need anyone to support
you, feeling so self-sufficient in life, pray and be hum-
ble, come to the House of the Lord and reconcile
yourself, cleanse yourself from the inside, unmask
yourself, be always ready to be a good associate of
Christ’s mission on earth by being a real and good
Samaritan, and a willing Cyrene to shoulder your
cross with Christ to Golgotha, where you will be res-
urrected with the Him.
Fr. Manuel

POPE FRANCIS’ VISION
Why, in your opinion, is humanity so in need of mercy?
Because humanity is wounded, deeply wounded. Either it does not know how to cure, its wounds or it be-
lieves that it’s not possible to cure them. And it’s not just a question of social ills or people wounded by pov-
erty, social exclusion, or one of the many slaveries of the third millennium. Relativism wounds people too: all
things seem equal, all things appear the same. Humanity needs mercy and compassion. Pius XII, more than
half a century ago, said that the tragedy of out age was that it had lost its sense of sin, the awareness of sin.
Today we add further to the tragedy by considering our illness, our sins, to be incurable, things that cannot
be healed or forgiven. We lack the actual concrete experience of mercy. The fragility of our era is this, too:
we don’t believe that there is a chance for redemption; for a hand to raise you up; for an embrace to save you,
forgive you, pick you up, flood you with infinite, patient, indulgent love, to out you back on your feet. We
need mercy. We need to ask ourselves why today so many people, men and women, young and old, of every
social class, go to psychics and fortune-tellers. Cardinal Giacomo Biffi used to quote these words by the Eng-
lish writer G.K. Chesterton: “When Man ceases to worship God he does not worship nothing, but worships
everything.” Once I heard a person say: In my grandmother’s time a confessor was enough, but today lots of
people go to fortune-tellers. Today people try to find salvation wherever they can.
Mostly people are looking for someone to listen to them, someone willing to grant them time, to listen to
their dramas and difficulties. This is what I call the “apostolate of the ear,” and it is important. Very im-
portant. I feel compelled to say to confessors: talk, listen with patience, and above all tell people that God
loves them. And if the confessor cannot absolve a person, he needs to explain why, he needs to give them a
blessing, even without the holy sacrament. The love of God exists even for those who are not disposed to
receive it: that man, that woman, that boy, or that girl - they are all loved by God, they are sought out by
God, they are in need of blessing. Be tender with these people. Do not push them away. People are suffering.
It is a huge responsibility to be a confessor. Confessors have before them the lost sheep that God loves so
much; if we don’t show them the love and mercy of God, we push them away and perhaps they will never
come back.
