PROMISES Today’s liturgy is full of promises. The reading from Genesis promises a final triumph over the power of sin and a return to a new creation. The reading from Second Corinthians promises that all who follow Christ will have to struggle. It also promises, however, that we can persevere if we but recognize that Christ is within us, renewing us daily, and giving us the courage and the strength we need to endure. The Gospel promises that doing God’s will makes us “family” with Jesus, who forgives all sin and triumphs over evil. Today might be a good day for us to make some promises as well. We can promise to stop kidding ourselves about our own tendencies to selfishness and sin. We can promise ourselves to believe—really believe—that while we are not sinless, we are forgiven. We can promise ourselves to combat evil and sin by acting as sisters and brothers not only to the Lord, but to one another as well.

St. Paul CCW Meeting June 19 @ 7:30 PM

All women of the parish are invited. The meeting begins with a prayer time,

followed by discussion on August 4 Crazy Days Luncheon, etc.

The 4th grade CCD class would like to thank all

of the parishioners of St. Paul’s who donated items to their community service project: We collected many of the items on the soldiers’ Wish List. The drop box we had set up in the church was filled with toiletries and other needs as well as Beanie

Babies (for their children). The 4th grade students wrote letters to deployed troops,

new recruits, first responders or veterans praising their work in the military. This was a wonderful lesson for the students to give of themselves and to see our parish families give,

too. I know we will all keep them in our prayers.

Living with the Saints

June 11—St. Barnabas while not among the Twelve Apostles, still bears the title of Apostle. He is

mentioned in the Acts of the Apostles and was commissioned by the Twelve to travel to Antioch (Acts 11:20-22). He recruited St. Paul to assist him (11:25-26). His

name means “son of encouragement.” Who can you encourage in the faith today?

June 13—St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231) is one of the busiest saints in his role as the patron of lost objects! He was a

great teacher and preacher and for this reason is another Doctor of the Church. Today, ask St. Anthony’s intercession for lost people (especially missing

children) and lost souls.

June 21—St. Aloysius Gonzaga (1568-91) came from a wealthy family, but he gave up his inheritance to become a member of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). He spent the final year of his life caring for plague victims in

Rome, eventually dying of that disease. Since he is the patron saint of Christian Youth, pray

for young people today.
