What’s Happening This Week! Oct 26/27 Balloon Ride Raffle Ticket Sales (pre-Auction event) Oct 31 Vigil mass 6:30pm at St Bruno’s for All Saints Day Nov 1 Holy Day of Obligation 8am Mass Nov 2 Faith Formation Spaghetti Dinner 4-7:30pm, cafeteria Training for the Race
If you were going to run a race, wouldn’t you need to train? My wife is not a runner, but a few years back, she wanted to par-ticipate in a race with my youngest son. She embarked on a journey which included a healthy diet, exercise, and a lot of running. After several months, she was ready. The race came and went but what remained was a sense of accomplishment. She would have never made it through that event if not for her training. When the time came, she was ready.
Our life in Christ is a race of sorts. It is not a race that starts and stops again and again but one that continues from our baptism until eternal life with him (hopefully). Even though we never stop the race, we do have moments where we need to hydrate, take nourishment, and gain strength. That’s what we do at the Mass and in our parish community. It is in our parish where we find what we need to keep running that race.
The problem is that too many assume we only are running the race when we are involved with the parish. Living out our discipleship in stewardship is not only to be done in the Church. In fact, what we do in the Church is to prepare us for what we are called to do during all the times we are not at Church. We encounter Christ in his Church so that we may bring him into a world that needs him. In community, we train and take nourishment so that we have any chance of running the race every day. Don’t let your stewardship stop at the church doors. Outside those doors, the race is on!
— Tracy Earl Welliver

Your Faith Life is a Story
Please join us November 13, 6:30-7:30, at St Bruno for a fall faith speaker event for our parish cluster. We will talk about the stories of our faith, of our connection to our Lord and each other.
Back in the days of the old church, Julie noticed JoAnn and Marlene sitting alone in their separate pews. She introduced herself and suggested they all sit together. Julie passed away years ago; JoAnn and Marlene continued sitting together for decades, sharing friendship every week over breakfast after mass. JoAnn invited Marlene to help her make auction baskets, she invited her to join the Human Concerns Committee and to volunteer at the spaghetti dinner. Marlene recently moved away but JoAnn is always happy to tell the story of how the three of these ladies formed a new friendship at mass because Julie first reached out. JoAnn has moved farther from the parish but con-tinues to drive the distance because she BELONGs. JoAnn is a blessing with all the volunteering she has done over the years and she is the first to admit she has been blessed by all those experiences in her church HOME. JoAnn has shared this story many times; her faith life is a story and the same goes for Julie and Marlene!
See you at St Bruno, Nov. 13, 6:30-7:30, fellowship to follow, childcare available.

Sharing the Gospel With Kids
During Mass you will hear the priest and people say, “Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.” It means, “Lord, forgive me.” You are human. You will make mistakes. God is proud when you are honest and admit that you did something wrong. He smiles when you forgive yourself and others. He frowns when you talk and act like you are better than others. God wants you to do right.
Prayer Lord, please forgive
me.

Human Concerns
Why Do We Do That?-Catholic Tradition Explained
Halloween
Question: Is Halloween a pagan holiday or a Catholic one?
Answer: The short answer: nowadays, a little bit of both. But it wasn’t always that way. Halloween and All Saints’ Day are closely connected. In the 800s, the Catholic Church began celebrating All Saints’ Day. It was originally called All Hallow’s Day or Hallowmas. The celebration began early on All Hallows’ Eve. But if Halloween is really about the saints in all their victorious glory, where do we get haunted houses, costumes, and pranks?
All Saints’ Day became associated with the other deceased rather quickly. November 2nd is All Souls Day, where we pray for the souls in purgatory. Throughout the European world, especially with the Celtic and Germanic peoples, the dead were honored in the autumn months. The Celtic pagan celebration of Samhain had its own folk rituals and occurred around the same time as these Catholic feast days.
Within the last few hundred years, this included dressing in disguise and going door to door, asking for food in exchange for a rhyme or poem. Some people masqueraded as “dark” spirits and pulled pranks on others. Today’s celebration of Halloween tends to take on these later practices, rather than the original meaning of celebrating the saints. But remember … this feast was Catholic first!
You are invited for Bereavement Support.
St. Paul Catholic Parish is offering Three sessions for people who are grieving the loss of a loved one. We, St. Paul’s Bereavement Commit-tee, believe that as we are supportive of people in times of joy, we also want to walk with those in times of sadness, loneliness and mourning, and help them bear their burden of sorrow.
Our sessions are planned for Sunday mornings, after 9am mass, in the Family Room from 10:15 – Noon.
On November 24, an overview of the grieving process will be presented.
On December 1, we will focus on how to take care of oneself as one moves through the grieving process.
On December 8, ideas will be shared on how to get through the holidays which are just around the corner.
Light refreshments will be served, so please RSVP to St. Paul Parish Office at 262-968-3865 to help us plan appropriately – or just come. We want to help you walk through a dark time.
